En Pentium 90 rekomenderas starkt, och då får man hålla sig till VGA-upplösning. Då går det å andra sidan jäkligt snabbt och så är det detaljerat till max. Grand Prix 2 kör ifrån alla andra racingspel med lätthet. Bättre än så här kan det knappas bli.

Whether you opt for arcade or simulation-style play, Grand Prix II manages to deliver plenty of racing thrills. While other simulations have managed to reproduce almost every minute detail of auto racing, Grand Prix II is the first to actually reproduce the excitement of the most dangerous sport on the planet. In other words, this game is both realistic AND fun to play. It is this factor, above all others, that makes Grand Prix II shine so brightly.

We zijn nog steeds een beetje in shock, we kunnen het niet geloven: Grand Prix 2 is uitgekomen! Bert Geysels werd met lichte hartkloppingen afgevoerd naar het ziekenhuis toen hij vernam dat hij het spel eindelijk zou kunnen testen. Na een routine onderzoek bleek echter alles in orde en kon Bert meteen aan de slag. Gezien zijn nogal fanatieke houding en zijn bijna goddelijke verering van Geoff Crammond (de maker van GP2), zat de kans er wel in dat deze bespreking en de toegekende score niet helemaal objectief zou zijn. Daarom namen ook nog enkele andere redactieleden een exemplaar van het spel mee naar huis. De conclusies zijn echter identiek: gewoonweg fantastisch! Als er één spel in de loopbaan van dit tijdschrift een perfecte score van 100% zou moeten worden toegekend, dan zou dit zonder twijfel Grand Prix 2 zijn. Het enige wat de pret kan bederven zijn de zeer stevige systeemvereisten.

Though he never said exactly which game he was playing, we have a good idea that it was Grand Prix II from Microprose.

Formula One Grand Prix 2 hat die Erwartungen vol erfüllt. Geoff Crammond hat den Vorgänger nicht einfach nur ein wenig aufgepeppt, sondern wirklich an entscheidenden Punkten überarbeitet. Vor allem Anfängern wird dadurch der Einstieg stark erleichtert, aber auch Profis werden sich natürlich über die verbesserte Steuerung freuen. Wer Rennspiele mag, kommt an Formula One Grand Prix 2 nicht vorbei!

Watch out, regulate your doses of this game and never drive right after playing this game, or you may find yourself screeching around corners and gassing it in the straights. Then you'll either end up in a wreck with one of those shitty drivers in a Volvo station wagon (Yes, you know who you are.) Or you'll have to outrace the 5 on your home track. I know I ended up intentionally cutting off a few old ladies driving 40 M.P.H in the left lane of the freeway almost taking up two lanes with their huge Lincoln's. Damn that pisses me off. But anyway the basic message is, there may not be room for a better racing simulation. The only thing more real would be to jump into a fire suit, strap into an F1 car and race a few laps under Frank Williams against a field of the worlds best racers at Monaco or Monza or Silverstone or Imola. After that, you would probably have to be scraped off the pavement with a spatula because you entered that chicane a little fast.

Für mich hat Geoff Crammonds neuestes Werk allen Konkurrenten einiges voraus: die beste Grafik, am meisten Details, eine geniale Steuerung und den längsten Spielspaß dank der 16 anspruchsvollen WM-Strecken. Wer den Vorgänger mochte, wird Teil 2 lieben - und sich vielleicht deshalb einen Hi-End-PC kaufen.

Daß die Grafikengine von Grand Prix 2 kein programmiertechnisches Kabinettstückchen ist, beweist das leichte Ruckeln selbst auf modernen Pentium-Systemen. Dafür entschädigen die spannenden, realistischen Rennen voll und ganz für die grafische Schonkost. Formel-1-Fans dürfen nach Herzenslust am Feintuning Ihres Wagens feilen und sich haarsträubende Überholmanöver mit den exzellenten Computergegnern liefern. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad läßt sich schonend anheben – gerade für ungeduldige Spieler eine feine Sache. Um die Tiefen des Rennspiel-Kleinods auszuloten, sollten Sie sich aber ein paar Wochenenden freihalten.

This game's about driving fast and fiddling with your car afterward. And, fact is, Grand Prix II is a good game, if not the positively heroic one the original was back in the early '90's. It's just that World Circuit has been on hiatus and while it's been gone I've been spoiled by Papyrus' IndyCar Racing and the recent IndyCar II. There's someone else on the starting grid this time, but Grand Prix II is definitely in the race.
