So herrlich morbid geht es selten in einem PC-Spiel zu: Staatsfeind Nummer 1 sollen Sie werden. Zum guten Ton dieser "Mafia-Simulation" gehört es, Polizisten umzufahren, hemmungslos Autos zu klauen, Leute zu entführen, Drogen zu verschieben, Autos und Gebäude in die Luft zu jagen und sich nicht erwischen zu lassen. GTA überzieht dabei dermaßen, daß es wie eine Posse Marke Monty Python wirkt. Trotzdem gehört das Spiel nicht in Kinderhände.

På samma sätt som Lemmings en gång fängslade spelare världen över kommer GTA att trollbinda oss många långa timmar. det tar 30 sekunder att förstå men ändå besitter det den där berömda "bara en gång till-känslan". Detta är ett av de sel som räddar min höst.

Though not up to the moral standards, Grand Theft Auto is great fun, in a twisted sort of way. GTA is quite addictive, as there is so much freedom in the way one can accomplish the different missions, making for tons of possible playtime. Though you tend to die or get busted a lot as a novice, you will be getting the jobs done after a little practice and having one hell of a time doing so. A unique and entertaining game, Grand Theft Auto is must buy if you're interested in the shady side of life.

Kukkahattutädit saavat taas uuden kohteen vainoillensa. Grand Theft Auton kyseenalaisena ideana on yksinkertaisesti tehdä erilaisia rikoksia, ja lopulta siirtyä yhä suurempiin ja hankalampiin kaupunkeihin. Tehtäviä suorittaessa eivät turvassa ole sen kummemmin poliisit, sunnuntaiautoilijat kuin kadulla hölkkäävät lahkolaisetkaan.

If you get nabbed by the police, you can get busted or killed and hard earned points can be lost or reduced and weapons confiscated. The top-down perspective with auto zooming is adequate and once you learn the controls, playing is a snap. GTA features an astounding soundtrack and a great deal of harsh "trash-talk", street language. Amazingly, with all this killing and the singular focus on a degenerate lifestyle, GTA is surprisingly fun. Here's your chance to hit the public enemy charts -- with a bullet!

The only downside of the game are the controls which are pretty hard to master. This is mostly due to the bird-perspective view, which is somewhat irritating. That is the only reason why this game got a four out of five carrots!

GTA ist sicher ein Meilenstein der jüngeren Spielegeschichte, auch wenn das Ganze aus heutiger Zeit und verglichen mit den Nachfolgern natürlich arg alt aussieht. Da es mittlerweile aber Freeware ist, kann man ruhig mal einen Blick riskieren, denn die schweren Missionen stellen auch heute noch eine spielenswerte Herausforderung dar.

Die Autos steuern sich einigermaßen glaubwürdig, Gaspedal und Bremse lassen sich feinfühlig genug dosieren, um auch bei Höchstgeschwindigkeit geschickt um scharfe Kurven schlittern zu können. Schade, daß sich die Stadtteile nicht deutlicher voneinander unterscheiden. Die schablonenhafte Anlage der Metropolen sorgt dafür, daß ich regelmäßig auf der Übersichtskarte nach den paar markanten Wegpunkten suchen muß. Erschwerend kommt hinzu, daß Brücken oder Häuser die Sicht auf das Fahrzeug einfach versperren und sich nicht elegant ausblenden. Fast noch mehr geht mir die fehlende Speicherfunktion ab, wenn ich alles richtig mache und trotzdem meinen Punktestand nach einer Stunde für eine Verabredung opfern muß.

If you had fun with Grand Theft Auto when it was first released you’ll probably still enjoy it now. If not then it’s worth downloading just to see what all the fuss is about and to hear the brilliantly awful radio stations. For free you can’t really go wrong.
