Although there are five scenarios to choose from, offering a variety of settings for players new to Heretic, only two of the episodes are truly original (the other three were in the original commercial version). This is not a major shortcoming; the game is still priced well below most other first perspective shooters and offers loads of fun for the money, especially for newbies.

Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders is the last and best version of Heretic. If you're into multiplayer games, or single player first person perspective gaming, this title offers lots of the best of both genres. Lots of unique weapons, mystical and diabolical bad guys, and hours worth of non-stop action is what Heretic's all about. If you've played the old Heretic shareware, you only have a small idea of how much fun this title can be. Do yourself a favor if you enjoyed the shareware, then get Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders!

Quite frankly, I'm at a loss to explain this one. Heretic, the shoddy predecessor to Hexen, has returned with a whole new set of levels. Let joy be unconfined. Quite why any of this is at all necessary, since a) Hexen is about three thousand times better than Heretic, and b) it also has its own new set of stages (see below), is utterly beyond me. Maybe there's someone out there harbouring an ambition to own a personal copy of every single Doom-a-like going. If you are that person, then this is for you. And you need to get out more.
