Hexx: Heresy of the Wizard

Att komma upp med nya idéer för ett rollspel måste vara nära på omöjligt, men vi känner ju alla till magikerna på Psygnosis. Det första du upptäcker att det är väldigt behagligt grafiskt sett och det är lika snabbt som Doom.

Nice atmosphere, fast action, and a cleaner interface than in most RPGs. There may be too many puzzles and not enough variety to keep your interest alive. A well-designed, straight-forward game, well worth considering if you crave a similar form of roleplaying.

The graphics are quite nice. As with most RPG from even earlier age, you have the sort of 3D view. Objects will be invisible if too far away and they’ll get bigger and more distinguishable when closer up. The backgrounds are quite nice, probably more decorated then most early medieval castles. The sounds are not much. The opening score is OK, but doesn’t really set the mood and later on the sounds are quite few and if you turn the speaker off you certainly won’t miss them. All in all it’s just another RPG game, where you need to defeat the forces of evil in a world where you have quite limited freedom (unlike some other RPGs which really allow you to do almost anything).

Gegen die hochkarätige Konkurrenz kann das erschütternd durchschnittliche Programm leider nicht im geringsten bestehen. Das heißt aber nicht, daß die Jagd nach den vier Edelsteinen keinerlei Spaß macht. Wizard bietet konventionelle Dungeon-Kost und hat ein, zwei nette Ideen. Wem simples Monsterplätten wichtiger ist als Detailreichtum und gute Story, der mag daran durchaus Gefallen finden. Ansonsten aber gibt es mehr als genug Spiele ähnlicher Thematik, die moderner, komplexer und vor allem besser sind.

There are some nice details, nothing is perfectly bad. Things like having to find food to eat, or the automap which always is helpful, and the nice graphics I said before. But the game lacks, it's pretty outside and pretty empty inside.

Ett spel utan större fel men med en oerhört tunn story. Lite problemlösande, mycket våld.
