Coincidentally, an AGS game called Royal Quest is currently in production using backgrounds and sprites ripped from KQ1VGA. The maker denies any knowledge of King Quest 1 VGA's original incarnation of Royal Quest.
Royal Quest, the working title for the game, was actually going to be more of a parody of King's Quest. It would feature a sort of "bad-ass" Graham who was more interested in fighting than solving puzzles. The game was cancelled, however, and KQ1VGA development began.
This fan-made game can be downloaded for free from tierraentertainment.com. All developers contributing to the project choose to remain anonymous.

It won the 2001 AGS Awards for "Best Room Art in an AGS Game" and "Best Animation in an AGS Game" and was nominated for four more (see also Related Sites). The developers also won an Award for the "Best AGS Documentation".
