King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow

This game introduces yet another feature in the series: 3D video animation. And once again Sierra has succeeded in making King's Quest 6 the most beautiful of all the KQ games. The game just begs any gamer to play it over and over again! I even find myself committing suicide just to see the animation in hell, or to see how Alexander dies. It is the ultimate Adventure game!

Once in a great while does a game like Kings Quest 6 come around. A game that, when finished, will leave an emptiness inside of the player. Like a great movie, it immerses one in its plot so perfectly that one will begin believe that s/he is actually in the game. I, the reviewer, personally believe that Kings Quest 6 is the best adventure game Sierra has ever produced, and it would be one of my top candidates for the best adventure game of all time.

If you ever hear people say how they miss the glory days of adventure gaming, King's Quest VI is precisely the kind of title they're pining for.

If you only play one King’s Quest game, make it this one. It’s the only game in the series where story and gameplay come together in perfect balance, and after a decade of working to get it right, it’s one of the best games Sierra gave us.

There is so much to do in this chapter of the King's Quest saga and more so because towards the end there are two pathways to your final goal. It's worth playing both of them. I must admit this is one of my favourite King's Quest titles even though it shamelessly exploits the damsel in distress theme.

Bei ihrem ersten Spiel in Eigenregie 'Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers', machte Jensen Schluss mit den ewigen Sackgassen, hätte sich auch Williams hierzu hinreißen lassen, wäre 'King´s Quest 6' ein Kandidat für 5 Lupen geworden, so bleibt am Ende immer noch ein hinreißender Klassiker mit Schwächen im Spieldesign und die Erkenntnis, dass die junge, hochbegabte Schülerin die zu Recht legendäre Meisterin schon damals überflügelt hatte.

Since 1980, Roberta Williams has brought us some of the best adventure games ever made. Many of these titles have pushed the limits of computer adventure gaming. Her signature King’s Quest series is made up of such titles. King’s Quest I: Quest for the Crown is the first adventure game to be modeled in a 3D like environment. King’s Quest II: Romancing the Throne is the first adventure game to feature a recurrent lead character in an ongoing storyline. King’s Quest III: To Heir is Human is the first adventure game to set in a large scaled world. King’s Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella is the first adventure game to introduce a female lead heroine. King’s Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder is the first adventure game to use a mouse driven, icon based interface. Now, the evolution of the King’s Quest series has reached yet another plateau with the release of the next sequel—King’s Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow.

Subjektiivisesti ottaen King's Quest 6 osoittaa selvää tasonlaskua Sierran kaltaiselta laadukkaalta pelitalolta. Epäloogisia ongelmia ratkottaessa ei kliseiden täyttämää maailmaa kauaa jaksa tarpoa. Tai ehkä en vain ole King's Quest -tyyppiä.
