MechWarrior will have you sitting on the edge of your chair as you take enemy 'Mechs head-on. The combat sequences alone would have been enough for most gamers. Add in the adventure of finding your family's killers based on clues you must find throughout the Star League, and you've got an offering with an extremely high entertainment value. We recommend MechWarrior not only to arcaders but also to adventure gamers.
ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
Mechwarrior had me hooked right from the start, it's a near perfect fusion of flight- (tank!) simulation and role-playing game. Seek and succumb.
Abandonia Times
As the de facto grandfather of all mech simulations, it’s a must-play for every mecha fan. Despite its age, the actual gameplay is very enjoyable - if you ever liked a mech simulation before, this one will get you hooked in no time flat! (like it did a certain Fifth Horseman, but that’s another story...).
Computer Gaming World (CGW)
Now available as a stand-alone game in Activision's new BattleTech trilogy package and on GEnie as Multi-Player BattleTech, this robotic combat simulator is like candy — fun and exuberant, although it may rot your teeth.
All Game Guide
The game's RPG aspect is just too underdeveloped to really contribute to the game. MechWarrior does do some interesting things like keeping track of each house's attitude towards you and adjusting contract availability accordingly. But generally, the RPG part of MechWarrior is just a "follow-the-breadcrumbs" sort of exercise. You go to one planet to find one plot piece and then find out where the next plot piece is and go there. Haggling for better contracts basically involves raising your demands repeatedly until you get bored or tired. The contract agents never get angry at ridiculous offers from you and seem to have infinite patience.
ASM (Aktueller Software Markt)
