The Pandora Directive is the fifth game in the Tex Murphy series, and the technological sequel to Under a Killing Moon. The year is 2043, one year after his last case. Tex is approached by a man named Gordon Fitzpatrick and asks him to track down a friend that he lost contact with years ago. Tex agrees to track him down, not knocking that someone else is tracking him down as well, and not knowing that by doing so, Tex would land himself in a whole heap of trouble.
In Pandora, you can complete the game on three paths, and the path which you will be on will depend on what choices you make during the game. This walk-through tells you what to do for all three paths, and how to stay on each path. To get onto the best path, you will need to make good decisions, and this comes in the form of Good Guy Points. These paths can lead to seven different endings, the best one can be viewed only if you played your cards right and not stuff up in the game. If you want to find out which path that you are heading down, hold down the [J], [K], and [Y] keys simultaneously.
There are two modes of play. "Entertainment" and "Game Player". The difference is in "Game Player", there are more points available and more locations to explore. This walk-through is based on the "Game Player" mode, although you can also play the "Entertainment" level, but you may have to skip some steps.
Tex starts out in his bedroom. He has four grand to start off with, Fitzpatrick's card, the newspaper photo of Malloy, and the Electronics shop credit card. Since his last adventure, Tex decided to buy an entire suite of rooms. The door behind him leads to Tex's Rec Room, off to the side is the door to the lobby, and in front of him is the door to his office. Go there first.
Examine Fitzpatrick's card and Tex will remember his number for later. Go behind the desk and get the jackknife. Examine it to find out that it is more than just a jackknife. Open the top-left desk drawer and get the electronics shop bill. Examine it to learn that the bill is overdue and Tex's account has been wiped out. Head for the Rec Room.
Shelves full of computers are here, but only one computer is working. Get the newspaper clipping from the end of the second computer shelf and examine it to add the police station to your travel map. Now return to your office and go out the front door. Go down the steps to the street.
Try to enter the lobby. Nilo, the hotel landlord, is not here at the moment, but he will be there after you make a date with Chelsee. So let's do that first. Exit the lobby and cross the street to the newsstand. Talk to Chelsee. It seems that the girl of your dreams is pissed off for what you did to her the previous night. Say whatever you want to her until you get your "Ask About" list.
Path A: Begin the conversation by choosing the following responses: A, B, C. Tex will act manly and Chelsee will buy it. You still get the "Ask About" list in the end, but if you choose not to get on Path A now, you never will.
You don't have anything to ask her about, so leave the conversation. Talk to Chelsee again and start with any response. When Tex asks Chelsee to dinner, select C: Play Down the Date Aspect. Chelsee accepts the offer, and you can leave the conversation.
Walk around Chandler Avenue for a bit. There is something in front of the mailbox. Walk toward it and pick it up to discover it is a letter addressed to an orphanage. Examine it in inventory to add $500 to your cash total. (If you know what's good for you, you would mail it instead.) Go toward the Electronics Shop and get the wallet laying near the ATM machine. Nilo would be in the hotel lobby by now, so head back there.
As soon as Tex enters, Nilo starts throwing abuse at him because he forgot to pay his rent for a while. Talk to Nilo using any response and offer the $2100 he demands (by clicking on Cash: $4000, selecting "Offer from inventory", and selecting choice B). Now make any dialogue choice. After Nilo answers with "No comprende" choose response A or B and offer $100. Nilo is now happy to answer some questions.
Ask about the Newspaper photo of Malloy. Tex learns that Malloy booked the room at the Ritz under the name of Tyson Matthews. Leave the conversation and go to the sofa. Get the crossword puzzle on it and examine it. Fill it out (answers are here). When you are done with that, go out onto the street and put the crossword puzzle in the mailbox. Now walk around to the side of the Ritz, and go through the gate to the alley. Go to the fire escape to the back of the alley and climb the stairs all the way to the top. Open the window and climb in.
Go down one flight of stairs to see four apartments, two on each side (labeled A to D). Look at the security keypad to Room A to note that a four-digit code is required to open it. Tex feels that he has to waste more money for Nilo to give him the code. Head down to the lobby and talk to Nilo. Choose any response and he will ask for $500. You can either give him the money, or choose the responses "Plead for Mercy" or "Refuse assertively". When you have the chance, ask about the Code for Apartment A. Nilo says that the code is 4827. Give Nilo the wallet to receive two good guy points for Path A. Leave the conversation and go back up to Room A. Punch in the code and enter. Before Tex has the chance to look around, he gets knocked out by thugs and the day ends.
