Day Four: Out of the PastContributed by Black Wolf (37241) on Sep 24, 2007.

Day Four opens with Tex being interviewed by Mac Malden about the events of the previous night. In a moment, a beautiful woman enters the room and clears Tex of any wrongdoing on his part. After exchanging glances with her, Tex heads back to his office.

Path A: Chelsee will ring on your vidphone. Answer it for a nice, warn little message.

Path C: Tex will receive a postcard from Chelsee, who explains that their relationship isn't going to work out and that she left San Francisco for good. He gets drunk again.

Answer the vidphone when it rings. It is Lucia Pernell who explains what she found out about the Black Arrow Killer. You do not have anything to ask Pernell, so end the conversation and travel to Rusty's roof.

Go to where Tex and the Killer fought and search the area until you find the tracking device. If you examine it, Tex will note that the Black Arrow Killer probably used the device to locate something that he had hidden for later use. Travel to the sewer.

Turn on the tracking device, then go to the end of the tunnel. There, go west and keep going further down the passage until the device is beeping furiously. Now face the left wall and scan it until you are able to move a brick, then try to move it to discover that it won't budge. Use the chisel on the brick to pry it out. Look at the Clayborne mine in the hole to get a close-up of it. Open the cover.

You will see two colored cells: red ones on the right and green ones on the left. Each group has a core cell, which is lighter than the normal ones. As well as this, there is a Shuttle Transfer button in the middle, which when clicked, will transfer the red cells into the left chamber and vice versa for the green ones. If there is an imbalance of either colored cell in either chamber, you have to go back to the start.

Pay attention to what Tex has to do and deactivate the mine by taking the following steps:

  • In the right-hand chamber, click on the lighter-colored red core cell and two other red cells to load the shuttle.
  • Click on the Shuttle Transfer button.
  • Do the same with the three green cells, including the core cell.
  • Now click on the green core cell and one red cell, then click the Shuttle Transfer button.
  • Click the red core cell and one green cell, then click the Shuttle Transfer button.
  • Click the red core cell and the remaining two red cells in the right-hand chamber, then click the Shuttle Transfer button.
  • Repeat for the remaining green cells.

The Clayborne mine should now be deactivated, and you can now remove the box. Go back to Tex's office to be kidnapped by two NSA agents and taken back to Autotech for interrogation. There, you meet Jackson Cross, a no-nonsense guy that likes to torture people and kill them if necessary. When you have the chance, save the game. When you are asked questions, choose these responses: C, C, B, C, B, A, B, C, B, A. If you don't, then you will get killed. After that, the interrogation is terminated and the two NSA agents drop your off -- and I mean drop your off.

Tex loses Emily's box, but at least he got home in one piece. Tex walks into his office and finds somebody sitting in his chair. She identifies herself as Regan Madsen, who is Malloy's daughter. Watch the cut-scene. After Regan leaves the office, the cut-scene that follows has different dialogue, depending on which path you are taking.

Path A: You will get a phone call from Chelsee. Use any conversation path.

If you are playing the game on path A or B, you will need to go down to the Fuchsia Flamingo and ask anyone there about Thomas Malloy. If you are playing the game on Path C, you will need to get Emily's box back.

Path A/B: Travel to the Flamingo. There, Gus Leach apologizes for treating you badly. Shortly, Emily appears, sits down next to you, and allows you to ask her questions. Ask her about Thomas Malloy to confirm that she is his husband. Ask her about Box stolen from Emily, followed by the Brown paper wrapper. End the conversation to begin one with Leach. Ask him about the Brown paper wrapper. End the conversation and exit to the alley.

Upon entering, you will hear something flapping. Have a look near the top of the light pole to see the brown paper wrapper. Turn around and get the antenna sticking out of the trash can near the employee entrance. Now examine the antenna and Tex will extend it. Use the antenna to get the brown paper wrapper from the light pole. Examine the brown paper wrapper and Tex will notice something in the lower-left corner. Combine the brown paper wrapper with the Visual Analyzing Apparatus. Examine the V.A.A.-and-brown-paper-wrapper to get a close-up view of it and turn it on. Zoom in on the area in the lower-left corner to see the Micro-Dot. It has a PB meter of 3887412. Turn off the V.A.A. and travel to the Police Station.

Path C: Travel to the Police Station and ask Mac Malden about Emily Sue's puzzle box and the brown paper wrapper. After Mac gives you the wrapper, examine it then combine it with the Visual Analyzing Apparatus. Examine the V.A.A.-and-brown-paper-wrapper to get a close-up view of it and turn it on. Zoom in on the area in the lower-left corner to see the Micro-Dot. It has a PB meter of 3887412. Turn off the V.A.A.

On both paths, ask Mac about PB Meter 3887412. Mac tells you that that is the number of the post office in the Mission District. End the conversation and travel to the Post Office on your San Francisco travel map. After the following cut-scene, go to the Garden House on your San Francisco travel map. Tex knocks on the door of the house and a little old lady answers.

Path A: Use conversation path A, A, A, B, B. Since you started the conversation by getting down to brass tacks, you are awarded one good guy point.

Path B/C: Use conversation path B, A, B, B, A, A.

If you use any conversation path other than either one above, the old lady will slam the door on your face. Otherwise, she tells you that Malloy is out at the moment but you can wait for him in his room.

When you get inside, get the puzzle book on the nightstand then examine it. Open the rolltop desk. Get the business card. Examine it and note down the number on the card. Now get the Cosmic Connection magazine and examine it to add the Cosmic Connection to your Ask About list. Open the desk's middle drawer and get the envelope which is addressed to Elijah Witt. Examine the envelope and you will get a disc. Try to open the closet door to find out that it is locked. Travel to Tex's Computer Room.

Here, use the disc on the laptop computer. The disc asks you to enter a security code, which Tex does not know yet. Turn off the computer and return to the Garden House. Looks like someone has been here while you were gone, and left some jeans on the chair. Get the jeans and examine them to get the rental receipt. Examine the rental receipt to get the Waterfront Warehouse added to your map. Bring up the map, go to the San Francisco section, and choose the new location.

Watch the final cut-scene for this day. Tex breaks into the warehouse and spots Malloy writing at the drafting table. After Tex identifies himself, Malloy tells him what really happened at Roswell in 1947. He is about to tell Tex a secret when NSA thugs appear and shoot Malloy. Tex decides to give the agents a taste of their own medicine and manages to escapes
