Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel
Walkthrough - AGI version only
You start in the Lytton Police Station. First, go to the bottom doorway on the right to enter the locker room. Your locker is the second one in the second bank of lockers on the right. You can talk to the officers here to hear the latest gossip, but be aware that you may be late for the 1300 briefing. Go over to it, and OPEN LOCKER. GET REVOLVER, GET AMMO and GET CASE. CLOSE LOCKER and OPEN CASE. GET PEN, GET NOTEPAD, and GET TICKET BOOK then CLOSE CASE. Exit and go to the next door up to arrive in the briefing room. Go over to your pigeonhole among those at the right wall and READ NOTE. You are invited for a coffee with Steve later in the shift. There is a newspaper on one of the tables. Go over it and GET PAPER. Cycle through its page by pressing the [Page Up] or [Page Down] keys, and when you are done with it, DROP PAPER. You will be asked to go to your position for briefing. Go to the front-right table, which is your assigned position for briefings. Listen to the briefing given by Sergeant Dooley. When it is over, WRITE NOTES about just about anything and you will be given points. Leave the room, GET KEYS from the pegboard and GET RADIO from the table near the evidence lockup. Now go left to exit the station. Go to your vehicle and walk around it to perform the safety inspection. Go to the driver's side. OPEN DOOR, ENTER CAR, CLOSE DOOR. Make sure that you GET NIGHTSTICK and START CAR.
Drive until you get a message from Dispatch, telling you to arrive at an accident on Fig and Fourth (located on Map B2). Drive there. You will be able to identify it once you get to B2, because there is a tiny green rectangle sticking out from one of the buildings. STOP CAR, OPEN DOOR, EXIT CAR, and CLOSE DOOR. (Remember to enter this last command. If you don't, it will not be there as soon as you exit Carol's.) Walk over to the driver's side of the crashed sedan and LOOK DRIVER. Try to HELP DRIVER and RADIO DISPATCH about your findings. Now go over to the crowd and TALK CROWD. Pay attention to the man that comes forward, then RADIO DISPATCH. When Dooley and Lieutenant Hamilton arrive at the scene, get in your car and drive off. Drive until you get a message telling you to go to Carol's Caffeine Castle to meet Steve.
Find a suitable parking space and STOP CAR. Enter Carol's and SIT DOWN on the seat opposite Steve. TALK STEVE to find out what has been happening on the shift so far. Soon, Carol will bring you some coffee, and the phone will ring. Carol says that it is Hamilton on the line for you. Don't keep him waiting. STAND UP and ANSWER PHONE. You learn that the murder victim is Lonny West, a small-time drug dealer to bite the dust in the last few days. After you hang up, SIT DOWN with Steve again. DRINK COFFEE and leave the place. Get in your car and drive off. Keep driving until you see a red sports car pass through a red light. Switch to Code-2 [F8] and pursue it. (Don't crash into any cars while you are making chase.) STOP CAR when she pulls over.
Get out of your squaddie and approach the back of the sports car. LOOK PLATE and RADIO DISPATCH to check for prior and outstanding violations. Approach the driver and b>LOOK WOMAN. Say HELLO and identify yourself as SONNY BONDS. Now tell her that YOU RAN A RED LIGHT. She will talk you out of writing a ticket, but you have your orders. So WRITE TICKET and GIVE TICKET to her. She will become abusive. Go back to your car and drive around until you get a message above a disturbance at Carol's. Drive there immediately.
Get out of your car and enter Carol's. Walk up to the counter and ASK COMPLAINT. Carol will tell you that some bikers are refusing to move their bikes, parked in her parking spaces. Leave Carol's and enter Wino Willy's next door. Approach the bikers and ask them to MOVE BIKES. When the head biker threatens you, USE NIGHTSTICK. After they leave, Marie "Sweet Cheeks" Wilkans, your sweetheart from high school. notices you. TALK WOMAN to see what she knows, then give her information regarding Operation Trick Trap. Leave Willy's, return to your car, and drive off. Explore the maps until you see a car driving erratically on the road. Switch to Code-2 again and pursue it, then STOP CAR when it pulls to the side.
LOOK PLATE and RADIO DISPATCH. Get out of the car and approach the driver. LOOK DRIVER and ASK LICENSE. When you check out the license (He looks like Al Lowe.), hand it back to him. Stand out of the way, and tell the driver to EXIT CAR. After you ADMINISTER FST, CUFF DRIVER. When he begs you to place the cuffs in front, say NO. READ RIGHTS and SEARCH DRIVER. Get him into the passenger's seat of your car. Get in the car yourself, RADIO TOW TRUCK, and drive to the jail (Map D3).
Now get out and let the suspect out of the vehicle so that he can make his way toward the jail. Go to the lockers near the entrance, OPEN LOCKER, DROP REVOLVER, and CLOSE LOCKER. PUSH BUZZER near the door to let yourself in. Approach the jailer and BOOK SUSPECT. When she asks you what for, say DRUG CHARGES. Now RELEASE CUFFS and escort the suspect to his cell. Detective Laura Watts from the Narcotics division will tell you about a spare position in her department. She also tells you that Dooley wants to see you right away. Leave the jail, GET REVOLVER from the locker, and get in your car. Drive to the station.
Enter the station and go east (x2). Enter through the door to arrive in Dooley's office. Dooley, himself, is not a happy man. Someone planted a live chicken on his desk. LOOK CHICKEN and TALK DOOLEY. When you leave, an officer invites you to Jack's party. Go to the locker room and go to your locker. OPEN LOCKER and CHANGE CLOTHES (x2) to change into your street clothes. GET KEYS to the car and CLOSE LOCKER. Leave locker room, replace the patrol car keys and radio, and exit the station. Go to the blue car, perform the safety inspection, and get in the car. GET WALLET from one of the seats and then START CAR. Drive to the Blue Room.
After you find a good parking spot, STOP CAR and enter the building. Inside, you see your friend, Jack, sitting at a table on his own. Go over and SIT DOWN in the chair next to him. TALK JACK and he will tell you about his woes. His daughter is doing drugs, he marriage is broken up, and his drinking is out of control. Keith Robinson drops by. Seconds later, the birthday cake is delivered by an exotic dancer. Enjoy the party while you can. You will be told that you are late for a briefing. So STAND UP and leave, get in your car, and drive to the station.
Get out of the car and enter the station. Go to the locker room, OPEN LOCKER and CHANGE CLOTHES (x2). Get your gear, CLOSE LOCKER and report to the briefing room. Stand behind your seat and pay attention to the briefing. Dooley tells you that a missing person report is linked to a stolen car, which may be linked to the death of Lonny West. After the briefing, walk over to the pigeonholes and READ NOTE in yours. Exit the briefing room, get keys and radio. go left and approach the table. WRITE MEMO to apply for a position in Narcotics. Exit the station. Perform a safety inspection on your vehicle and ENTER CAR. START CAR and drive around until you get a call about a possible stolen vehicle in your vicinity. Identify the car on the map, and switch to Code-2. Pursue the vehicle. Once you get too close, the vehicle will speed up. So go to Code-3 [F10] and maneuver directly behind the vehicle to force the driver to pull over. STOP CAR
You must RADIO BACKUP and wait for it to arrive. OPEN DOOR and EXIT CAR, but remain behind it. LOAD WEAPON and DRAW WEAPON. Order the suspect to GET OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP. As he comes toward you, make sure that his hands are up. Repeat the order if necessary. Next, tell him to HIT GROUND. When he complies, walk to the suspect until you are over him and REPLACE WEAPON in its holster. CUFF SUSPECT and SEARCH SUSPECT. Now tell him to STAND UP and READ RIGHTS. Order the suspect to GET TO CAR, and let him in through the passenger's side, and CLOSE DOOR once he gets in. As Jack passes near you, GET WEAPON from him and LOOK WEAPON, reading the serial number. RETURN WEAPON back to him. Walk over to the driver's door and LOOK DOOR. LOOK VIN. The VIN matches that given by Dooley in the first briefing. SEARCH CAR. Nothing in there but a glove box. OPEN GLOVE BOX and examine its contents. GET LICENSES and examine the two of them. One belongs to Marvin Hoffman, while the other belongs to Leroy Pierson. The same man? DROP LICENSES. You will examine the black notebook later in the game. CLOSE GLOVE BOX. Go over to the vehicle's trunk and RELEASE TRUNK to open it. LOOK DRUGS that you find there. CLOSE TRUNK. Jack says that he will impound the drugs with the car. Get in your car and START CAR. With your passenger in tow, go to the jail.
EXIT CAR, let Hoffman out so that he can head toward the jail, and secure your weapon in the locker. PUSH BUZZER to be allowed in. When you get inside, tell jailer to BOOK SUSPECT on DRUG CHARGES. REMOVE CUFFS from Hoffman and escort him to his cell. After this, Jack arrives and tells you that Dooley wants to see you back at the station. Leave the jail and get your weapon from the locker. Now get back to your car and drive to the station.
Report to Dooley's office. Dooley will show you a memo, but still worked up about the 'gremlin", decides to leave. Go behind his desk and READ MEMO. It says that you are promoted to the Narcotics division, and that you need to report to Lieutenant Morgan in suitable street clothes. So what are you waiting for? Return to the locker room and OPEN LOCKER. CHANGE CLOTHES (x2) and CLOSE LOCKER. Leave the locker room, go left to the first hallway, and enter through the door on the left to arrive in Morgan's office. Here, Morgan will introduce himself and will send you to see Laura Watts in the Narcotics office. Leave the office and go into the Narcotics office, the next door on the right. Laura will show you around the room. Follow her. When she leaves, go to the filing cabinet on the back wall and OPEN CABINET. GET HOFFMAN file and read it. When you finish, CLOSE CABINET. Go to the clipboard on the left wall, TAKE CLIPBOARD. Cycle through the pages until you see the FBI Most Wanted List and TAKE LIST. Leave the office and the station. Approach the Narcotics vehicle. Just because you are driving a different vehicle from now on doesn't mean that you can skip the safety inspection. Once that is complete, it's time to hit the road.
Drive to the courthouse (Map D3, opposite the jail). Get out of the car and enter the building. Approach the clerk window. When the clerk asks what you want, tell him that you NEED TO SEE JUDGE. When he refuses entry, tell him that you NEED A NO-BAIL WARRANT. When the clerk again declines, tell him that this is an EMERGENCY. The clerk will leave, granting you access to the judge. OPEN DOOR to enter the courtroom. When the judge interrupts her court session and gives you permission to speak, tell her that it concerns MARVIN HOFFMAN. When Palmer demands some evidence, tell her that you have the HOFFMAN FILE. The evidence will not be enough and Palmer will demand more. When she does, tell her that you have the LIST. Finally, when she asks you what the connection is between Taselli and Hoffman, reply with TATTOO. The judge will issue you a no-bail warrant. Leave the courthouse and return to your car. Get in and drive to the jail.
EXIT CAR, secure the gun in the locker, enter the jail, and present the warrant to the jailer. The warrant will make sure that Hoffman/Taselli remains behind bars, and will prevent his lawyer from releasing him. Exit the jail, get your weapon from the locker, return to your car, get in, and drive to the station. Laura is waiting for you at the car park. She tells you that a drug dealer is about to take place in Lytton City Park, and gets in the car. START CAR and drive to the park (Map B1).
Once you get out of the car, follow Laura's instructions, then enter the park. Hide behind one of the bushes to your left, then RADIO LAURA with your position. LOAD WEAPON then DRAW WEAPON. Eventually, two suspects will appear and start to make a transaction. RADIO LAURA. When the drug deal is complete and the suspects start to walk away, shout HALT, POLICE!. One suspect flees and the other one stays behind. Go up to this suspect and REPLACE WEAPON to put it in its holster. CUFF SUSPECT and READ RIGHTS. SEARCH SUSPECT to reveal an ID card. EXAMINE ID to find out the name of the suspect, Victor Simms. Tell the suspect to FOLLOW ME and take him to your car. Laura already caught the other suspect trying to flee. QUESTIONS SIMMS and QUESTION COLBY. Put both suspects in the car and drive them to the jail.
Get the suspects out of the car, close the doors, and lead them to the jail. Secure your gun in the locker, buzz yourselves in, then BOOK SUSPECTS on DRUG CHARGES. Escort the prisoners to their cell. Then leave the jail (with Laura in tow), retrieve your weapon, get in the car, and drive back to the station. When you get there, Laura gets out of the car and suggests that you drive to the Blue Room, so do it.
Enter the lounge and SIT DOWN next to Jack to receive bad news. Later, Keith comes by and gives you some more bad news - Taselli has escaped from jail. He also tells you that Morgan wants to see you. Leave the lounge, get in your car, and drive off. Drive back to the station.
Report to Morgan's office. Morgan tells you to examine the evidence taken from the stolen vehicle. Go right and approach the evidence lockup. When the officers asks what you want, say that you want to examine the BLACK BOOK. Cycle through all of the pages and RETURN BLACK BOOK when done. Ask to examine the WEAPON. READ TAG on the weapon and note down the serial number. RETURN WEAPON and go next door to the computer room. USE COMPUTER and enter the serial number found on Taselli's weapon. You will be given Detective Taber's name, address, and phone number. Write down the phone number and return to Narcotics. USE PHONE and dial Taber's number. When he answers, tell him that you need information about TASELLI. This is your first step toward closing in on Jesse Bains, the notorious Death Angel. Return to Morgan's office to be told about Sweet Cheeks and her involvement with Operation Trick Trap that is to take place at the Hotel Delphoria. SC landed herself in jail, and you must convince her to help with the operation. Exit the station, perform the safety inspection, get in, and drive to the jail.
After you get out and secure your weapon in the locker, PUSH BUZZER beside the door to be let in. When you get inside, walk up to Marie's cell to be noticed by her. After you played kissy-kissy with her, get her to help with the operation. After the arrangements, exit the jail, get your weapon back, get into the car, and START CAR. Seconds later, Dispatch tells you to proceed to Cotton Cove. Drive there (Map D4). Leave the car and walk over to the dead body. REMOVE COVER and OPEN SHIRT. Now LOOK BODY and COVER BODY. RADIO DISPATCH about your discovery. Return to the car and drive to the station.
Report to Morgan's office. When you get there, Laura and Marie will already be there, Morgan will tell you what to do during the undercover operation, and Laura will give you a disguise that you need to wear for the operation. After they leave, Dooley comes in and tells the both of you that Jack's daughter, Kathy, died from a drug overdose. Leave Morgan's office and go to the locker room. OPEN LOCKER and CHANGE CLOTHES to wear your towel. CLOSE LOCKER. Go to the shower stall on the right and USE SHOWER. WET HAIR, USE BLEACH that Laura gave you, and RINSE HAIR. TURN OFF SHOWER. Go to the locker, OPEN LOCKER and CHANGE CLOTHES to wear the disguise. CLOSE LOCKER and return to the Narcotics office. Now USE PHONE and dial 411 to reach directory assistance, then ask for the COBB number. Dial the Cobb residence and offer your condolences. USE PHONE and dial directory assistance and ask for DETECTIVE WILLIAMS's number. USE PHONE to dial Williams's number. When Williams ask you want you want, tell him about HOFFMAN to learn that the prints on the weapon match those of Hoffman/Taselli. Return to Morgan's office for the final briefing. Morgan tells you that to help you in the operation, he gives you one thousand dollars, marked in hundred-dollar bills, sealed in an envelope. When Morgan leaves, go behind his desk and LOOK PHONE. Write down his office number. Leave the station, perform the inspection on your car, get in the car, and drive yourself to the Hotel Delphoria (Map A2)
Get out of the car and enter the building. Go up to the desk and RING BELL. When the clerk appears, RENT ROOM and register under the name of BANKSTEN. Go through the doorway on the left to enter the cocktail lounge. Go up to the bar and ORDER BEER. Sweet Cheeks will recognize you. Walk over to where Marie is sitting. ORDER DRINK from the bar again and PAY BARTENDER for the drink. Marie will go to the powder room for a moment, then come back shortly. Give some money to the bartender again. With Marie in tow, exit the cocktail lounge, enter the elevator, and PRESS TWO. When you get to the second floor, go to the door at the end and UNLOCK DOOR to enter.
Once inside your room, USE PHONE on the nightstand to call Morgan using the phone number that connects to his office. You will be informed that backup units are on their way. He also asks you to call a cab for Marie. After he hangs up, USE PHONE again to contact directory assistance and get the number for the cab company. USE PHONE to call the cab company and say you want it to be sent to the HOTEL DELPHORIA. After this, instruct Marie to return to the lobby to catch a cab back to the station. After she has gone, return to the cocktail lounge on the first floor. Walk over to the bar and GIVE MONEY to the bartender to be escorted to the poker game. (You will be frisked first in case you are wearing a wire.) Inside, go to the empty seat and SIT DOWN. You will be introduced to the other players, and eventually commence the game.
Follow the on-screen prompts to play the game. Each chip is ten dollars. Enter a number when you have the option of the number of chips that you want to bet, the number of cards to discard, and the number of the cards in the hand that you want to discard. If you don't like the cards you have, you can always fold. Between hands, you can deal the cards. To win five hundred dollars the first time round, you have to really know how to play poker. But there's a trick: whenever you win a hand, save the game, and whenever you lose, restore that game.
After you win poker the first time, STAND UP from the table. Frank will invite you for a more private game. Leave and go back to the lobby. Use the elevator to travel to the second floor and head to your room. UNLOCK DOOR and enter. Wait for the backup team to arrive, and GET TRANSMITTER PEN from them. Leave the room and head for the cocktail lounge. Approach the bar and say FRANK SENT ME. You are escorted to a more private game with the boys.
SIT DOWN at the table and wait for Frank to arrive. You play poker straight away. It is the same, but with higher stakes. Frank will ask you whether you are interested in business after the game. Answer YES to both of his questions. (Answering NO instead will cause the game to end.) Once you win the game, Frank will tell you to follow him to his apartment. STAND UP and follow him out the door, up the four flights of stairs, and to his apartment on the fourth floor. Before you enter, RADIO LOCATION and enter the room to complete the game.
