Techtite (2000)
These missions were far more challenging than the typical "shoot everything moving" no-brainer, and often involved finding out who your enemy was, before making your next move. Sadly, the game's biggest flaw was an obscure multiple ending story arc, which left many players with an abysmal "worst ending" possible, just because they made one mistake, in one puzzle choice, in around the middle of the game! Make the right puzzle choice, however, and you got to see a far cuter ending, where the hero saved the world, gets tons of praise, and even meets the girl of his dreams! The plug on this intended game "series" was pulled, and that's a shame; seeing a Strife sequel with a Quake game engine would've been interesting...
Coming Soon Magazine (Jul 16, 1996)
In Velocity's latest release, Strife, a comet has struck the world and everything has gone chaotic. There were fires, plagues, and even mutations. Some of the survivors heard a voice from an evil being and gathered to form a group called the Order. The others were savagely hunted, slaughtered and driven underground. They started to organize a resistance, and soon the Front was born, dedicated to the Order's destruction. However, although they are preparing for the war today, they are not yet ready for the confrontation.

But I like this one. Despite some rough edges, Strife is a definite advance from the conventional 3-D shoot-em-up of the Doom school. And these days, anything that isn't a bare-bones Doom is a definite plus.

Man, how I remember when I first played the demo of this game 4 years ago. And how addicted I was! Being limited to a somewhat small portion of the game I knew I had to get the whole thing, somewhere, somehow. In 1999 I found a store that sold the full game, and as any gamer on a mission, I did not hessitate at buying it. The thing that makes Strife different from every other FPS out there is it's mixture of a game where you shoot everything that moves, and a game where you actually have a role to play. Unlike games such as Doom you here have to think before you shoot. Such as in the start you can't just go around and gib every guy you see, friend or foe, it will almost every time set off the alarm.

PC Zone (Aug 13, 2001)
The best label to attach to Strife is that it's perhaps what Doom 2 should have been, which was really nothing more than a collection of extra levels and a shotgun. Strife marries the idea of the basic first-person perspective action game with some of the best elements of the traditional role-playing games we were seeing at the start of this decade (remember Ultima VI and VIII anyone?). Unfortunately these are both dying breeds, victims of technological progress and decaying attention spans. Nobody wants to think anymore, it's all Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Kill! Kill! Kill! Personally I blame MTV, but then what right-thinking person doesn't?
While the very RPG aspects that make Strife original may actually undermine the replayability factor that prevents Doom from taking its last rites, this is a definite step in the right direction. It's as fast paced and tough as any Doom game, but requires some degree of tact and precise aim as well. And there's just something cool about walking into a room full of bad guys and have them not start shooting at you because they think you're the maintenance guy. In the end, Strife may not be particularly groundbreaking, and it's definitely flawed, but it is a lot of fun and a nice switch from the linear, mindless action of the other Doom games, even Duke Nukem 3D.
GameSpot (Jun 27, 1996)
Combine one scoop of sci-fi role-playing, a drop of James Bond, and ninety-eight cups of Doom, and what do you get? Strife. Strife mixes elements of stealthy espionage with ever-satisfying bloodletting to serve up one of the tastiest concoctions in the 3-D shooter market.
Power Play (Jul, 1996)
Next Generation (Aug, 1996)
Among Strife's weaknesses are its single meager save-game slot, which is nearly unforgivable. And if you make a poor decision before your last save, the only way back is to restart the game - a huge mistake on Velocity's part. Still, Strife is somehow a refreshing change from the glut of first-person shooters, even with the older Doom engine.
Prevailing at STRIFE requires not just twitchy reflexes and a hard heart, but also an unprecedented level of restraint. Not only do you not kill everything and everyone, you actually leave the overwhelming majority of people standing. Now what kind of a DOOM clone is that? Well, it's a pretty good one, actually.
Reset (Jun, 1997)
Przerywniki w postaci podłych komiksowych slajdów i ta nędza graficzna... Można sobie postrzelać. Nie mówcie potem, że was nie uprzedzałem.
