Abandonia
While the game play is similar to Asteroids the graphics and sound are waaaay beyond. Trust me this game will get your pulse going a bit fast as you try to avenge the destruction of planet Earth by the evil Dr. Schaumund. As good as the graphics are I was just as impressed by the sound quality as I was the visual. Turn your speakers up when you play this game and it will rock you.

Yksinkertaisen vektorigrafiikan nimeen vannovalle Asteroids-fanaatikolle Super Stardust lienee liian pramea ilmestys.

For hard core shootem-up players, "Super Stardust 96" is definitely unavoidable. There are plenty of levels, various weapons, furious action and a tremendous soundtrack that literally rocks the whole thing. If you don't like arcade games however, and think the PC should only be used for spreadsheets or traditional games like adventure, simulations or strategy, this one is way too much for you.

Super Stardust can also be technically challenging, depending upon your system, especially when trying to get the game's excellent sound to play properly. The game runs horrendously under Windows, if at all, and requires 529 KB of conventional memory, though its minimum system requirements are extremely low (minimum processor is a 386/33, though to run up to its original Amiga performance requires a lot more muscle than that as in a Pentium). Overall, however, and despite the possible technical problems and annoying passwords, Super Stardust '96 is a great example of the venerable shooter genre, and a refreshing switch from the countless Doom games flooding the market.

This could almost be Asteroids, if we're being accurate here. Super Stardust is an okay-ish update of the perennial arcade favourite, replete with whizzy new graphics and an above-average trance techno soundtrack. It shares a couple of things in common with most of this month's other Pick 'n' Mixers, in that it looks like 1) an Amiga game, and 2) you can't help getting the impression that it's all been put together in someone's bedroom. Don't get me wrong - there's absolutely nothing wrong with that if the gameplay's up to it - but somehow it isn't. It's fun for about half an hour, but even that's pushing it. You want Asteroids? Get Microsoft Arcade instead and play the real McCoy.
