Summary
Annoyingly less fun than the Amiga classic.
The Good
I really liked the Amiga game. Swiv (which came out in - I think it was 1991, but I might be wrong on this, so don't quote me) was and still is one of my favorite shooters ever, and I still play it every few days on my Amiga. So when I heard about Swiv3D, I was immediately excited and wanted to see what this amazing shooter will spawn next.
And yes, I was disappointed.
- The voxel engine is both good and bad (see later). Good in that it presents decent graphics, but the kind I would expect from a game a year or even two years older. The visuals are OK, but nothing more, and don't ressemble the original game even remotely.
- The sound effects are OK, but what music there is is simply terrible.
- The controls are admittedly excellent.
However:
The Bad
It's simple graphics engine is not nearly as good as I expected, or even as good as I would expect from a 1996 game. The music, as already mentioned, is terrible. The gameplay is repetitive and not fun, and the game plays nothing like the game it is supposed to be a remake of.
The Bottom Line
A generally mediocre game you'll enjoy for a few minutes, then dump.
