A note in the game manual from the Spectrum HoloByte CEO and Chairman, Gilman G Louie, dedicated the game to "the children of both the United States and the Soviet Union. May they live in a world of trust and peace and work together to build a better world for all mankind." The game featured a Central European Theatre where US tanks defend Germany from a massive Soviet invasion.

Tank was supposed to be the first in the series of "Electronic Battlefield", based on the Army's SIMNET technology. You're supposed to be able to link in the later flight sims and fly a coordinated battle. A-10 Warthog, AH-64 Apache, and others were planned. The plan never went further than the planning stages.

Actually released in two separate boxes, one being an update I think, with the sideline "based on the U.S. army's Simnet".
