The Terminator: Future Shock

Terminator: Future Shock schlägt in die gleiche Kerbe wie System Shock. Kurzweilige Schrotflinten-Duelle darf man also nicht erwarten. Dafür bekommt man aber ein Spiel, das aufgrund der riesigen Levels und des anspruchsvollen Gameplays spannende Unterhaltung bieten kann. Darüber hinaus macht die erstmals verwendete neue 3D-Engine - xgine genannt - einfach Spaß; vorausgesetzt man verfügt über einen ausreichend schnellen Rechner.

Terminator: Future Shock is a game that should not be missed. Even if you've somehow avoided the hulking mass of first person shooters until now, you should consider checking out this title for its variety of play styles and its overall quality. Cover me, I'll be in here for a long, long time.

Terminator: Future Shock on ihan kiva ja viihdyttävä toimintapeli, jossa olisi ollut aineksia parempaankin. Bethesdan tavaramerkki tuntuu olevan asioiden tekeminen melkein muttei ihan loppuun asti. Mikään kaikkia tyydyttävä paketti ei Termis ole, joten kokeile demoa nyt, jotta vältät shokin tulevaisuudessa.

För alla som gillar Terminatorfilmerna och Dark Forces-kloner är Future Shock ett måste. Alla andra kan se fram emot ett väldigt trevligt spel.

Größtes Problem ist die düstere Grafik, die nicht jedermanns Geschmack ist und trotz schöner Lichteffekte und herumwirbelnder Polygontrümmer zu spartanisch und veraltet wirkt. Dem Spielgefühl schadet die Düster-Darstellung nicht; wer also über die äußerliche Schwäche hinwegsehen kann, darf zu unserer Wertung guten Gewissens noch ein, zwei Pünktchen addieren.

Future Shock er endnu en af de utallige DOOM-kloner, hvor vild action er i højsædet. Desværre er den lydmæssige side af spillet underlegen i forhold til aktuelle konkurrenter som f.eks. Cybermage.

For me, the definitive example of the ashen Terminator future comes during Kyle's dream in the first film. He's running solo, dodging fire between hulks of cars and concrete slabs, loses his partner, but destroys his objective. Yet he doesn't even get a real victory before air units are sweeping in and he's trying to escape in a truck. All of those moments and feelings are captured in this game. Everything is mission-based, everything has an objective, you will dodge gunfire between nuclear ruins, you will drive trucks, and you will have nearly every victory stolen from you by the machines' response. If your imagination was captured by these scenes in the films, or they sound even remotely interesting, then this is the game you have been waiting for. Unfortunately, there are still some gameplay issues that keep it from being everything it could be.

Das Spiel rockt. Es bot so viel Neues im Genre und konnte auf ganzer Linie überzeugen. Zudem griff es ein spannendes Setting und eine gute Film-Lizenz auf, die hier glücklicherweise mal nicht in den Sand gesetzt wurde. Die dichte Atmosphäre, die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten und die technische Überlegenheit des Spiels lassen einem auch heute noch den Angstschweiß von der Stirn rinnen, wenn man durch die vermeintlich leeren Straßen eines zerstörten Los Angeles läuft.

Overall, this is a prertty decent game with some flaws. I feel having network play would be a necessity in this game and the fact that the game does play a little slow. But to all of you that love the Terminator series and movies this is a title you might not want to miss. For those of you that like Doom clones and whatnot, I'd wait and spend my money on Quake, or Lifebane, or Into the Shadows, when those games come out.
