Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal

Trite but true: If you liked Warcraft II, you're bound to like the Warcraft II expansion set. You hardly have any choice. Beyond the Dark Portal is simply more of Warcraft II: 24 new scenarios arranged in Human and Orc centered storylines, 50 new PUDS (maps) to play with and some sensible (if minor) improvements and repairs to the game engine.

Warcraft II: Beyond the dark portal is in alle opzichten moeilijker en meer uitdagend dan het origineel. het slaagt er bijwijlen in om het bloed onder de door muis ondersteunde nagels vandaan te halen en vereist van zijn spelers een bliksemsnel real-time actiebrein, degelijke strategieën en de nodige vingervlugheid. Wanneer je het spel echter volledig onder de knie hebt, dan biedt deze extra cd een spelplezier dat nauwelijks kan worden geëvenaard.

Set i lyset af dét er Beyond the Dark Portal en udmærket udvidelse, fordi den formår at give nye udfordringer til de garvede spillere. Det ville have været som flødeskum på lagkagen at inkludere nye enheder, bygninger og spells, plus et par enkelte nye melodier, men der skal jo også være plads til en 3'er...

Fans of Warcraft II are split along two fronts: there are the single-players and then there are the multi-players. But whichever side of the fence you lean toward, this is a must-have. More challenging and more diverse than its namesake, Beyond the Dark Portal proves once and for all that you can never have too much of a good thing.

Sie haben es ja nicht anders gewollt: Nach einer halben Million weltweit verkaufter WarCraft 2-Exemplare hat Blizzard Entertainment auf das Quengeln der Fans reagiert und bringt mit "Beyond the Dark Portal" die erste Zusatz-CD-ROM für eines der erfolgreichsten Spiele der letzten Monate. Neue Levels, neue Story, neue Animations-Sequenzen, neue Soundtracks, neue Helden - so erfrischend kann eine Mission-Disk aussehen.

Beyond the Dark Portal är dock mycket svårare än grundpaketet - helt klart ett måste för Warcraft 2-experten. Glöm inte att du behöver Warcraft 2 för att kunna använda det här paketet.

Zwar gefällt mir Command & Conquer immer noch besser, doch bei den Missions-CDs hat Blizzard die Nase vorn.

The new features of Warcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal, unfortunately, are little more than window dressing. They do not change any fundamental facet of the gaming experience, only the appearance of some of the characters and landscapes. This is not to say, however, that I did not enjoy playing through the new levels. I just want to caution those who are considering plopping down money that what they will get is more of the same experience they got with Warcraft 2. That may well be reason enough for many gamers to buy the expansion, however, so you must decide what is important to you ... As a product in its own right, I will give Beyond the Dark Portal a score of 74 for leaning a little too heavily on its popular predecessor.
