WarCraft: Orcs & Humans

Warcraft est carrément mieux que Dune 2, c'est le genre de produit dans lequel on voudrait toujours plus de scénario, de types d'unités différentes, de sorts et cela sous une pression permanente. Mon seul regret : l'absence d'un éditeur de scénarii. Vivement la suite qui s'annonce à mots voilés... Une pure merveille qui vous tiendra en haleine pendant des heures.

Good graphics, two-player options, unbeatable play value. It's so addictive, it belongs on the FDA's controlled-substance list with Civilization and SimCity 2000. If you like action, strategy, or fantasy games, check out Warcraft. It doesn't get much better than this, folks.

It is ultimately easier to sit down and start playing a game of "Warcraft: Orcs and Humans" than it is to stop and walk away! In one word, this game is great!

Alors que les jeux de stratégie en temps réel ont connu une avancée majeure avec Dune II qui a propulsé le genre à un niveau qui sert désormais de base aux STR contemporains, Warcraft : Orcs & Humans se distingue par un univers riche et passionnant où la survie des humains côtoie la fureur des orcs. Doté d'un contenu étoffé et d'une empreinte graphique unique, le soft constitue une valeur sûre offrant une profonde immersion dans les terres tourmentées d'Azeroth.

Voici le nouveau jeu des auteurs de Siege. Toujours dans un monde médiéval fantastique, il vous permet de prendre en main un village d'orcs ou d'humains. Certes, il emprunte énormément au système de jeu de Dune 2, mais quitte à pomper... Il propose quand même de nombreuses innovations et l'option multijoueur est démente.

Si vous aimez les jeux de stratégie et l'ambiance "Dongeon & Dragons", voilà un produit bien fini qui devrait vous ravir mais on peut déplorer le manque de finesse dans la gestion des hommes et du matériel.

When the final body count is tallied, and the streets have been scrubbed clean of orc and human blood, the recommendation is this: if you enjoy frantic, real time games, and if you don't mind a linear structure in your strategic challenges, WARCRAFT is a good buy. While the AI is no Einstein and the “puzzle-based” structure of the scenarios won't make for much replay, you'll still get a good 30+ hours of moderately demanding play. In the meantime, start a campaign to convince a natural intelligence (a gaming buddy) either to buy a modem or stay after work and play WARCRAFT head to head. For while the history of the Orc and Humans is one of tremendous bloodshed and cruelty, nothing in this world or any other can match the ferocity and unrelenting bitterness (all in fun, of course) of two humans locked in mortal gaming combat.

Warcraft remains a competent title. Units support each other well, its resource system is intriguingly elaborate, and its AI is surprisingly capable at finding the undefended path to your base. I'm not sure how critical the story here is to the overall Warcraft universe, but it does provide both creative missions and a purpose behind them. The only trouble will be if you cannot overcome its primitive interface, or the laggard pace of its gameplay. I don't think you'll be missing anything if you skip ahead in the series, but its a fun distraction that will last a few weekends if you choose to stay.

Mir persönlich hat die Orcseite mehr Spaß gemacht, weil man seinen inneren Schweinehund diesmal nicht überwinden mußte, sondern einmal so richtig die Peitsche geben konnte. Immer auf der Seite der Braven zu stehen, ist auf die Dauer ziemlich langweilig. Ansonsten kann man nur sagen, daß Ausdauer und Hirnschmalz in großen Dosen erforderlich ist, will man den Gegner in die Ewigen Jagdgründe schicken. Mit der beliebten Hau-Drauf-Taktik ist da nicht viel zu holen. So bleibt der Spielspaß garantiert. Und sollte man doch einmal durch sein, beginnt Ihr auf Seiten der Menschen noch einmal von vorne. Auch Losern sollte man schließlich eine Chance geben.

As long as you don't want anything too taxing, this is a highly enjoyable game. The manual has an easy-to-follow and straightforward tutorial that quickly and simply teaches you the main points. The screen is always uncluttered - except during the heat of battle, when it's important to keep an eye on your forces and make sure they're being used to their best effect. It's a game that takes only a few minutes to learn but significantly longer to master, and it's helped considerably by giving you the option to play the goodies or the baddies.

Spelet är underhållande, framförallt om två personer spelar samtidigt över nätverk. Efter att ha spelat ett tag känns det däremot som om spelet upprepar sig hela tiden och de totalt 24 scenarierna bjuder inte på så mycket variation som man skulle kunna önska.
