To my surprise I realized that there's not only that 1999 flopped Wing Commander movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0131646/
...but also there was 1996 animated TV series? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115421/
I haven't seen the latter, but I'll bet it's unrelated to this game. Where to put this trivia? WC group description?

Well, it's sort of a prequel to the WC1 game, where we see the WC1 characters attending the Academy, and seeing battle before they are graduated.

Entirely forgettable IMO, and I enjoyed the WC series...

It's much better than the movie. That's not that difficult, of course, but anyway... Some episodes are really good, and with Hamill, McDowell, Perlman, Dorn, etc. the voice acting is excellent. Just don't expect too much from a 90s cartoon for kids.
