Description

A somewhat simplified space combat simulation by Microplay.

It featured an ordinary "fight the menace against the human race" kind of storyline, and this time it was giant bug-like creatures, way before Starship Troopers. The bugs came pilotng their spacecrafts in hordes, and it was up to you, Viper, and your wingmen to fight them off. After a while a new menace would surface and the missions changed slightly.

The story was told in full-motion video, which added a dramatic feel to the game. The game had around 100 different missions to play, which made it longer than most titles at the time (still today, for that matter), but it was basically dog-fighting.

Trivia

The original box had a sticker blurbing, "If you liked that "other" space flight sim, you'll love Mantis!" The other sim was, of course, Wing Commander. And anyone familiar with marketing knows a statement like that almost assuredly means the product in question is bad.
