XS

Spillet indeholder en mængde lækre detaljer, men samtidig er det langt fra så gennemført som Quake. Er du stor fan af genren, bør du storme ned og anskaffe dig XS. For to måneder siden ville jeg muligvis have været henrykt, men nu er Quake her. Dårlig timing - kom igen, SCi!

Varken grafik eller ljud firar några direkta truimfer i XS, men det annorlunda upplägget och atmosfären gör det till ett angenämt avbrott från vanliga 3D-action-spel.

GT Interactive is a company known for publishing great action titles: id's first-person shooters Quake and Doom, 3D Realms' Duke Nukem, and their latest successful publishing effort, SCi's SWIV 3D. But that kind of stellar line-up is almost impossible to maintain. GT Interactive inevitably had to disappoint hard-core action gamers, and that particular disappointment manifests itself in the form of another SCi title, XS.

XS is really just one of those games you pick up and play for a level when you need to kill some time, since there isn�t that much to do in it and the graphics engine is extremely out of date. It certainly doesn�t offer anything in the way of compelling atmosphere or gameplay. It's not terrible, just terribly shallow and out-classed, given the current state of first-person shooters.

XS offers tough opponents, but few graphic graces.

XS from GT Interactive is, in my estimation, another Doom clone (not even that good) with a couple of twists -- in other words, a half-hearted attempt to score some bucks from those die-hard gamers who get sucked into the glitz on the cover. I mean, if you gotta have every first-person shooter out there then you may as well collect this gem also, but if you are looking for an awesome first-person experience, stick with Duke.
