Game Chronicles
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is the best Dragon Ball Z game ever. It does almost everything right and is a nearly flawless culmination of everything that was great about every US Dragon Ball Z game since Final Bout, be it characters, gameplay or graphics. The little errors can most certainly be overlooked when the complete package is as good as this one is. Any Dragon Ball Z game after this will merely be adding insignificant things because the perfect formula was been found with Budokai Tenkaichi 2.

Worth Playing
Even with these low-level complications, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is a well-done product with few flaws. It, in fact, accomplishes roughly 95% of what it set out to do, and with style besides. If you've ever liked Dragon Ball Z, even just as a kid growing up, then this game should automatically be added to your collection. If you like fighting games, this is a good one to pick up that deviates from the norm. With a huge single-player fighting experience and an engine that's tons of fun for duelists and spectators alike, everyone should at least give this title a shot.

So, who should get this game? Not only everyone who likes Dragon Ball Z, but also those players who are interested in trying a new experience. A final note: you know what could have made this game even better? Battles against multiple opponents, but that seems not to have been possible this time. Maybe next time!

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 was a very good game but Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi manages to improve upon on it and it's a game that Dragon Ball Z fans will really appreciate. There's not much the game can be faulted for except to say that in terms of providing multiplayer action it needs to be improved. With no online play and support for only 2 players offline, there's little to get excited about. As a single player game though, it's great and a must for fans of Dragon Ball Z.

Whether Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is worth a purchase is really up to how big of a fan you are of Dragon Ball. The game has a ton of fan-service (not the naked kind… sorry), a ton of production value, and an insane amount of options to dig through. The sheer fact that the game can boast 120 different playable characters is just sick, and while a ton of those are super forms of main characters there’s no denying the sheer depth of the game’s roster. The new five-on-five tag battles are a blast as well, sending epic battles upwards of five minutes long at times (longer if you’re still new at the game), while the training mode alone can take up to an hour to truly master. Simply put, this game is absolutely stuffed with content, and if you dig Dragon Ball it’s a no-brainer.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is a solid and slick fighting game that beat 'em up fans and Dragon Ball z anime fanatics will love. There are a lot of small improvements (like the ability to jump into Super Saiyan mode more easily) to look forward and a ton of gameplay and extras to keep players occupied for a very long time. Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is easily the most complete and robust DBZ title to date, and though it doesn't go too far out of its way to innovate, it is nonetheless a complete fighting game experience.

With limited knowledge (and boy do I mean limited knowledge) of the Dragon Ball Z universe I managed to truly enjoy DBZ: BT, so it goes without saying that this is a must for Dragon Ball fans. The main fighting system may lack some depth while compared to other game in the same genre but without doubt it is loads of fun to use. I would instantly recommend this to fans of beat ‘em ups as it offers something new but it is the die hard DBZ fans that will get the most enjoyment out of this game. While it is not the best game I played this year or not even the best beat ‘em up is sure is a lot of fun to play and in the end that was really matters. I think I might tune into the TV show now, well maybe!

Budokai Tenkaichi 2 isn’t the most perfect fighter, but that doesn’t ruin its fun. The game was built for DBZ enthusiasts, but anyone who loves a great fighter will get into this high-flying, non-stop experience. The two-player battles ensure a very long lifespan for this fighter, making it worth the purchase even if you have no desire to play through another story mode.

Ever since its arrival, game designers have tried to capture that same kind of allure and make it into a worthwhile video game. Many of those attempts have failed miserably, creating nothing but uninspired gaming. Thankfully, they’ve finally gotten it right. Budokai Tenkaichi is a wonderfully fun and addicting experience, offering tons of characters, modes, and everything else you could want in an anime-based video game. Just as its television forefather, this game has the makings for something great.

Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is a good technical fighter for fans of the cartoon series or maybe even for anyone who’s played the Capcom vs. SNK series of games. You pay for the nice visuals and stylish moves with unforgiving AI, more stuff to learn than an astrophysics degree and annoyingly chirpy characters. For those of you who prefer a more arcadey combat system or want to see a schoolgirl fighting in a miniskirt then Tenkaichi won’t be for you, but don’t rule it out just because it looks like it’s for the kiddies.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi is the best game in the series to date on PS2, however the problem is that the game still isn't great. Sure it sticks to the series fairly well, but when you sit it next to many other current generation fighters it not only looks quite average but also plays fairly poorly too. This is one strictly for Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi who will likely get a lot more out of the title then I did.

GameSpy
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is far from gaming excellence, but it does manage to deliver some solid fun, if not a lot of fan service. Covering the entirety of the DBZ series, this game is certainly something that will appeal to most fans, but for those who are just looking for a good fighter, there are better choices. It doesn't really improve too much on last year's DBZ entry, making it an easy pass if you've already played it, but if you're a fan of the series, Tenkaichi 2 may be what you're looking for.

Prior to the 2002 release of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, video games based on the high-octane anime and manga series all had one thing in common: Unless you were a hardcore Dragon Ball Z fan, they were generally quite unbearable. Though the Budokai series has had its ups and downs, all of the Budokai games so far have had a level of polish and accessibility that has merited praise without requiring the "for a Dragon Ball Z game" qualifier. That said, fans looking for a straight follow-up to Budokai 3 will be surprised by what Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi has to offer, and possibly a little disappointed.

G4 TV: X-Play
Dragon Ball Z Budokai: Tenkaichi is an interesting attempt to shake up the Budokai series, and for the most part, it provides a high-speed anime thrill ride. The visuals hit the mark, and there’s a huge roster of fighters here, but the odd camera work and control issues don’t work in the game’s favor. Still, the action is hard-hitting and there’s enough gameplay here to satisfy fans of the show and gamers in search of a truly different fighting game.
