If you are looking for a great fighting game, stop looking--you've just found it. Whether you are a fan of the TV show, or have never even heard of it, DBZ: BL is quite simply brilliant. Whilst fans of the previous games may be unhappy that there are only 21 characters in the game compared to around 200 in the previous Dragon Ball Z game (Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the Wii), they should be incredibly happy with just how well the whole package comes together, and how faithful it is to the TV show. Even if you are generally not a fan of fighting games I strongly recommend that you give this game a try. Fans of Dragon Ball Z, why are you still reading? Go buy this game now!

One thing I can say about Burst Limit, and that's the fact that it is designed for existing fans. Anyone hoping to use this new release as a place to jump into the series without prior knowledge might find the game very frustrating. The Story Mode doesn't do anything to explain the events of the show, it is just a select few fights taken almost out of context, and the complexity of some of the moves are best left to those that have worked their way through the many other DBZ fighters that have come before. Also, any hardcore fan looking for the next "complete" fighting game will also be disappointed since this game only boasts some 20 characters and only goes to the end of the Cel Saga. That being said, if you are just looking for a good DBZ fighter that really does the PS3 justice, then Burst Limit is worth looking into.

Love it or hate it, it seems like the Dragon Ball Z franchise is here to stay. Although many (including myself) doubted the ability of the franchise to make the jump to the current console generation successfully, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit proves this is one series with some serious staying power. From the amazing graphics to the incredibly deep combat system, everything about Burst Limit feels new, and I can't wait to see where this franchise is headed next. Sure, the story may be tired, but when was the last time you really played an arcade-style brawler for the story? Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is a must-own for DBZ fans, and if you're a fan of button-mash fighters, you owe it to yourself to pick this one up!

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is more of the same. Little innovation, little extras. Nevertheless!? Is it wrong to reuse a good formula? The whole package is solid, exciting and fast brawls, detailed graphics and an endless online world leads to one hell of a game. If you are a Dragon Ball Z enthusiast you probably already have this game and if you are not a devotee of the series it’s time to become one!

Burst Limit is a well-rounded package in fighting shape, keeping up its momentum by offering plenty of different modes. As a fighter, it holds its own weight with a large cast of characters, unique and easy to perform special moves, and tight controls. It may not have the depth to please the hardcore crowd, but fans of the show, or anyone looking for a user-friendly fighter with a lot of glam, will be happy bursting their limits with this one.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit on maallikolle huomattavasti televisiosarjaa kiinnostavampi tapaus. Satunnaiselle tappelupelaajalle DBZ tarjoaa eeppistä taistelua ja nasevaa mäiskintää, joissa iskut menevät perille ja toiminta on tiivistä. Pelin ulkoasu on kauttaaltaan kohdillaan ja pelattavuus on hyvä. Kokeneemmat virtuaalitappelijat kokevat DBZ:n kontrollit varmasti liiankin yksinkertaisiksi, eikä peli tarjoa juurikaan erikoisliikkeiden hiomisesta tai uusien yhdistelmien löytämisestä koituvaa mielihyvää.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is an indepth fighting game which is sure to appeal to long term fans of the franchise. The difficulty level caters for newbies as well as veterans and the scope for detailed and high adrenaline combat is high. The game is sadly let down by limited online game modes and a lack of variety with the level design and character individuality. All in all, if you are a fan of the series you will be unlikely to be disappointed.

Xbox 360Worth Playing
With a great combat system, good-looking characters, and a ton of unlockables, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit was poised to be the game that brought in new legions of Dragon Ball Z fans. Unfortunately, the lack of any explanation of the story — coupled with a few nitpicks here and there regarding online lag, boring stage design and predictable AI — means that this one isn't likely to find mass market appeal. However, fans of the television show or any of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai titles will likely feel right at home here, picking up right where they left off. So calm down, Dragon Ball Z fans; I actually like this game, which is more than I can say for the TV show on which it's based.

Existing DBZ fans should definitely look into Burst Limit. It isn't as comprehensive as the older series, but it has a very "back to its roots" feel to it. As for people unfamiliar with the show and its story, you might be quite lost in Z Chronicles seeing as they really don't convey any of the details of the story, just the fights themselves, but if you don't care about that and you just want some high-energy fighting, then it might still be worth it.

While it comes off as a tad bare-bones, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is definitely worth getting if you're a fan, or if you just like fighting games without a great deal of depth, and the newly added online mode will keep the replay value high for quite some time.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit isn’t an innovative or groundbreaking fighting game. But with a new, more realistic direction and gameplay you won’t want to put down, Burst Limit is an arcade-style fighter that’s well worth your time.

The three main ingredients for fighting games is the characters, the moves and the levels. DBZ has plenty of well animated characters and great moves lists, though the same for all characters, each one has their own weakness and strength but it really misses out on the levels, they are very bland and similar. There is no interaction, you are left with just an open area and lots of sky to fight in, which is a bit boring to say the least. In the end I did enjoy this game, the ease of online and the ability to view your opponent’s power rating is faithful to the show and the inclusion of Drama abilities is a really good idea. Well worth a look if you are after a good fighting game. Fans of the show are going to love this. Hardcore fighter fans may find this a bit shallow with lack of combos and arenas. It is an enjoyable fighting game but not really enough to keep interest.

Xbox 360GameSpy
Even after unlocking all the characters, though, you might still be disappointed. There are only 21 characters in the game, which pales compared to the over 150 (!) in Tenkaichi 3. The lack of characters combined with the relative lack of gameplay modes makes the overall package seem a bit shallow, as if the inevitable sequel will feature more content. Even so, Burst Limit is a quality fighting game. Non-fans will be lost within the convoluted confines of the Z Chronicles, but the improved battle engine can't be denied.

After the final battle has been fought, the fact remains that this is one excellently polished and solid fighting experience. With a distinct lack of beat ‘em ups on the market at the moment, there may be a chance for this one to take advantage. Fortunately, it seems Earth stands to live another day, at least until Street Fighter IV arrives with full force later in the year.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is a pretty good game that manages to stay true to the anime series. With solid visuals and sound, and just as solid gameplay, it manages to provide most gamers with an all around enjoyable experience. The only downfall to the title is that the more versed to the Dragon Ball Z series you are; the more you’ll probably understand the story and link between the characters. But in the end this should not scare you away from considering this game.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is a strong fighting game, with combat mechanics that are both simple and deep. There are some issues in terms of variety, however, with a limited number of stages and characters that are fairly similar to one another. Regardless, DBZ fans will likely find a lot to enjoy here, which is really what matters.

As the Xbox 360’s first Dragon Ball Z game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is an excellent game with a few drawbacks. The character selection is low compared to previous iterations which will turn off fans of the DBZ games. The online multiplayer could’ve been refined to make interesting match-ups between DBZ favorites. But in the end, the gameplay shines through and is a critical success in terms of delivering something similar to the anime.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is a game that accomplishes all its goals, and in many exceeds them, with an excellent package loaded with fan service. It looks absolutely fantastic, and is leaps and bounds ahead of previous title in the franchise. However, the age old balance issue of depth vs accessibility ultimately rears its ugly head, and the balance is tipped a little too much towards the casual player – to the extent that even fans may find themselves getting bored quickly. That being said, the Z Chronicles is an excellent addition that will satisfy hardcore fans for months to come - the best of its kind thus far.

Fans of DBZ and lovers of other Dimps-branded Dragon Ball titles, as mentioned earlier, will want to rush out and pick Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit up. Hardcore fighting gamers will also enjoy the ranged stick-and-move nature of this unique fighter. For the rest- those just passing time- you’re probably better off playing this one off of a trade-in or rental. Better yet, make a friend that’s DBZ-crazy. This way, you can play their game for free and make fun of them when they cos-play as Goku at the next comic con.

I am not what you would call a typical Dragon Ball Z fan. The truth is, I hate the cartoon and only have a passing interest in the gigantic cast of annoying characters. Yet as much as I loathe this cartoon juggernaut, I find myself having to review each and every one of these games ... and half the time I find that I actually like them. There's just something about Atari's line of Dragon Ball Z fighting games that works on me, even though I know that I should hate them.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is a fighting game that can be enjoyed not only by DBZ fans but also by those of you who don't know the difference between an aura spark and a Super Saiyan.

It's a comment that seems to be made every time a Dragon Ball game arrives, but despite the stinky stigma that generally - and understandably - lingers around cartoon adaptations, this is another meaty and enjoyable fighting game. Its kinetic manga style makes for a refreshing change compared to the more earthbound Tekkens and Dead or Alives of this world, and for those who are willing to invest time in the deep combo system the rewards are numerous.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit continues in the tradition of the Budokai games by providing a decent fighter, but we’ve all been there and done that by now. Everything functions as it should and as far as series recreations go, this ranks as a good one. However, a shiny coat of paint isn’t enough to hide the fact that the depth in the fighting has been somewhat compromised, the game is the lowest on content since the original Budokai title and the least friendliest to those who aren’t fans. Overall, Burst Limit doesn't quite reach the next level of Dragon Ball Z euphoria that fans might expect, but it still holds up nicely. The fighting action is frantic and exciting, the presentation does its job (for the most part) and the multiple modes will keep your days filled with lots of fireball throwing and opponent-taunting. If you have avoided anime like Dragon Ball Z for specific reasons, like the sometimes name calling dialog that the characters come out with, then you might get annoyed at Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit. Although it is a solid fighting game, if you don't appreciate the style of the cartoons then it could get old fast, for example you might have just nailed a complicated combo only to have it interrupted and ended by a drama card which is totally out of your control. The best bet is of course to try out the demo on the marketplace if you are unsure, but there is definitely a strong relation to the animated series that fans of Dragon Ball Z will appreciate.

Burst Limit isn't without its other shortcomings, either, the least of which is the $60 price point, an oddly high one for a game of this type. One of the best parts of any DBZ game, flying, turns out to be a pain if you ever want to land, and there's little variety in terms of where you fight. Characters also play very similarly, with most of them feeling just like playing someone else with a different costume on. The similarity between characters and their playing styles makes it even harder for the already pressed non-DBZ fan to enjoy the game, once again showing that Burst Limit is strictly a fans-only affair. As mentioned on the onset of this review, the DBZ series has churned out a large variety of fighting games over the years. Such a pedigree helps separate DBZ from other fighters by giving the games an identity. Burst Limit is a nice little fighter overall, but if it wasn’t for its characters and its background could easily be discarded amongst the more diverse next-generation fighters that are available. DBZ:BL doesn’t necessarily fail in any areas, but due to a generic single player experience, and limited move sets, also doesn’t do anything that other fighters out there have done and done better. The multiplayer experience is the main reason to play through this game as a human opponent will often be more engaging than the CPU on most given days. Fans of DBZ won’t be disappointed with Burst Limit but for the rest of us out there, this game can be recommended as a fine rental but nothing more.

DBZ Burst Limit is a game that’s very clearly made for its fans. A newcomer who picks this game up will have absolutely no idea what’s going on in the story, other than seeing a lot of oddly dressed people yelling at the top of their lungs for no obviously apparent reason. If that newcomer can manage to look past that, they’ll find a fighting game that isn’t all that bad. There’s plenty of game modes and content to unlock, which ought to keep someone occupied for a weekend at least.

If you are keeping score, Burst Limit’s fighting is shallow, the single player is ok if you have pre-existing knowledge of the show’s plot but unintelligible if you don’t and the online play is marred by disconnects and/or lag issues. That doesn’t exactly add up to the fighting game of the year. If you’re a huge DBZ fan, Burst Limit looks and sounds nice enough to make it worth the price, though after a few long sessions, you’ll find little reason to pick it up again. If you don’t know Piccolo from Yajirobe, I’d recommend either the Wii DBZ games or simply waiting until Soulcalibur IV hits shelves next month. For DBZ fans, Burst Limit is a 71/100. If you aren’t a fan, the game is a 62/100.

Sadly this was not the hit it could have been. Burst Limit was a poor start for DBZ’s future with the 360, but it could have been worse. The art stays true to the series as do the cutscenes. The fighting is most easily comparable to the Budokai series, which may be hit or miss for some people. Yet with all those similarities, BL seems a bit empty. Whether this is because of the lack of story in the campaign mode or a lack of characters, Dimps should seriously analyze the game’s flaws and use what they learn to produce an amazing game the second time around. Best of luck to you Dimps, I still have faith in the series. Rent if you’re interested, but consider the PS2 games as a stronger alternative.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit certainly does make an impression to begin with. The flashy presentation is matched by the quality of the character models and graphical effects. It would have been great if there were a stronger and more deeply thought out list of moves, but the strategy available during any given fight offsets this complaint by providing encounters of substance and split-second decisions. A problem without resolution, however, is in the very name itself - DBZ fans (who haven’t yet played a DBZ game) will certainly enjoy the game, but hardcore or even part-time beat ‘em up fans will want more substance and may not understand what’s going. Story segments that keep the campaign flowing are disjointed, as not everything is sufficiently explained. The first appearance of DBZ on the next-generation consoles is a solid entry to the series, but it’s difficult to recommend to anyone thoroughly enjoying or looking forward to Soul Calibur IV.

We can't help but feel that Burst Limit is an opportunity lost. Certainly the game will please fans of the series by virtue of having every single character they could possibly want, with solid combat mechanics, lovely graphics and online play that actually works. But there's little effort here to make the most of the power of the 'next gen' consoles and create an innovative anime fighting game. I'm not asking for a cel-shaded Virtua Fighter. All I'm asking for is some variation, and Drama Pieces that don't have a life of their own.

If you love Dragon Ball Z -- like, love it to the point where tears run down your face as you stare at your Vegeta wall scroll -- then you'll love Burst Limit. Casual fans, like myself, will be impressed initially but ultimately let down by the fact that -- despite the new name -- this is still part of the Budokai family of fighters. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise, lest you end up as disappointed as I was by the lack of innovation.

Burst Limit has moments where you get lost in the visuals and lightening quick moves but that isn't representative of the entire package. The Drama Pieces bog down the gameplay that would have been blazing fast. It comes down to Burst Limit having some really brilliant moments but a mostly average package.

Visuaalisesti Burst Limit tavoittaa hyvin lähdemateriaalinsa hengen. Korkeuden hallinta on käytännössä automaattista.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit is a decent enough entry for the license onto the higher powered next generation systems, but much was left behind from the last license iteration that it almost pales in comparison. There will probably be another game coming out since this series sells so well and hopefully they will expand the storyline and the number of characters available. Until that happens, this is a rental at best.
