My final opinion on the game is that if you don't mind taking the time to learn the basic setup it is well worth the time effort and money to pick up and play Dragon Force. This is easily one of my favorite games ever and is my favorite Saturn game. For fans of strategy RPGs it is a can't miss title that will keep you addicted for hours with unparallel fun. However For the less patient player it may not be worth picking up. Beware, though, Dragon Force is a game that is highly addictive and will "Drag on" for hours on end.

This is easily one of the best strategy RPGs of the 32-bit era. It's obvious that Sega put a lot of effort into this game and that Working Designs put even more into translating it and improving it for its domestic release. I definitely recommend this game to anyone interested in the genre. Any of the minor flaws are forgivable based on the fact that everything else in the game is so well done.

While the possibly of playing this game is low, I can't stress how good the game is. With several main characters leading to several endings, the game has tons of replay value and will have you playing for a long time. In my gaming life, I rarely buy games multiple times. Not only did I buy this game a second time, I also had to buy the system a second time, showing just how great this game is.

Dragon Force is one of those rare games that demands countless hours of attention, hours that pass by unnoticed as day turns into night, and night back into day. In fact, this game alone makes the Sega Saturn worth purchasing.

RPG Kingdom

Lens of Truth
Every once in a while a different type of game comes along that requires the attention of all types of players. One that can turn fans of one genre into fans of another. Dragon Force was exactly that kind of game. Even if your not a fan of strategy games, you will want to find more games like it. And that’s why Dragon Force is so special ,it’s one of a kind (unless you can read Japanese there is a sequel, also on the Saturn). If you’ve never played it, you owe it too yourself to track down a copy and begin assembling your own army.

With its combination of humor and melee-rich, bloodthirsty battles (kind of like Braveheart for the Saturn), you'll find yourself forgiving the poor graphics and charming about the strategy in Dragon Force. As far as RPGs go, it's a Force to be reckoned with.

DF is about as good as a strategy game can get. It has a sprawling world, epic story line, a cast of thousands and the most awe-inspiring battles ever seen in a video game. Yet the game is extraordinarily easy to get into.

Dragon Force is a masterful achievement, and gets my vote as the best US-released game of 1996. It also gets my vote as the best strategy RPG released in the US so far, narrowly edging out Shining Force III. Don't pass this one up.

I've played a ton of strategy/RPGs, but I've never seen the two games combined like this before. Dragon Force takes a lot of getting used to, but once you get into it, you'll find it exercises a different corner of your brain than most conventional strategy games. The graphics and sound are nothing too special, but the battle scenes are really impressive. A great change of pace.

Defunct Games
Dragon Force balances role-playing and strategy elements perfectly, intermittently directing the war of the land through storyline segments. And the ending is a stunning and climactic spectacle to behold. The game also offers a great deal of replay value, since storylines differ, depending on which of the eight main leaders is chosen (each storyline takes roughly 40-50 hours to play through successfully). Admittedly, you may be considerably less motivated to set aside another large chunk of time after winning as the first character...but the play is addictive enough that you'll probably be dragged back for at least one more go-around.

In the end of it all, Dragon Force is one of the funnest and most addictive game that I have ever play. Nothing beats seeing 200 little sprites hacking and slashing at each other on the battlefield. Sure the story isn't as great as it should be or the characters aren't as memorable as any FF characters but the game overrall is one hell of a ride. Anyone who played this game can tell you it's one fun ride from beginning to the end.

All in all, Dragon Force is a wonderful game. While it can grow tedious at times, and is relatively easy, the unique gameplay and multiple plotlines keep fans coming back for more. Certainly it is one of the best reasons to own a Saturn.

Some of your general's special attacks are overpowering to the point that it's easy to exploit the combat, but that's a small complaint in an otherwise classic strategy/RPG.

Edge
DF is unusual. It subscribes to many gameplay gospels, making for a varied experience, but its greatest aspect is its accessibility. Players can dip into a scenario without complex statistics to catch up on before they can re-immerse themselves. Another credit is its size: with several nations to play as, each with its own story, DF offers value for money, even as an import game - as it will remain until late autumn. Its sizeable RPG leanings may not appeal to all, but budding Smaugs will find Dragon Force hobbit forming.
