However, the rich design and compelling story made us want to continue playing and persevere even when we became frustrated by a riddle. The game play is complex enough for older children and adults to enjoy, but it shouldn't be too difficult for younger children to play as well. The story and graphics convey an element of exciting mystery, but the game isn't frightening or violent.
The Chosen Child is well-designed and fun while it lasts (aside from the aforementioned maze, which I honestly could have done without), but its length comes up short.
Overall, I thought Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child was fun, but ultimately disappointing. Apparently, this is the third game in the Dream Chronicles series. If all the individual games were combined into one, it might actually be worth buying. Until then, however, I would stick to the free online demos.
The sum total of the good and bad changes from previous games probably doesn’t make The Chosen Child the worst game of the series, but it’s perhaps the most disappointing. The novelty that carried the first game is long gone, and the problems still remaining after three tries are all the more exasperating for their continuation. Clocking in at over four hours of game time, it’s certainly more, but for “better” we’ll need to keep looking ahead for future Dream Chronicles still to come.
