Remember the good ?ole days of Bonk, Karnov and Final Fight? The days of huge, menacing end level bosses? Well the good times are back. Not only are they massive, but also darn near impossible. Yup, old school is back and better than ever. Avenge your death, increase your power and prepare yourself for a journey of destruction of Biblical proportions.
I never thought that I'd see competition for Shadow Man this soon. After all, Shadow Man had every thing I was looking for: action, suspense, cool graphics, and an awesome soundtrack. And then Soul Reaver came along. While Shadow Man has terrifically-disturbing images and stories worthy of awards and accolades, Legacy of Kain takes everything that makes the horror genre compelling and improves on it in nearly every way. Ending aside (what's wrong with a cliff-hanger now and then?), Kain is easily my favorite Dreamcast game so far, and is a great choice for your growing collection.

Almost everything about this title oozes quality. From the flawless voice acting to the maddeningly addictive rolling block puzzles, Soul Reaver is a showcase to how great third person gaming can be. The intelligent storyline, chillingly dark plot and stunning visuals form an action adventure game that is currently without peer on any platform. Buy it, play it and savor every evil minute, this kind of game doesn’t happen very often, make sure you don’t miss out.
Soul Reaver is a deep game possessed of myriad impressive little touches.
The definitive version of this rather tasty vampire-killer – add this to your collection and save your soul, brother!
Gaming Target
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a great game and one that combines puzzles action and adventure in to one. It's a little bit of a letdown with low replay value and a bad ending, but don't let that put you off this is one of the most original games for the Dreamcast and is excellent in almost every way. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a worthy addition to any games collection.
Planet Dreamcast
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is one of the Dreamcast's first fantasy adventure games. It offers a murderously good story and innovative action. Had Eidos updated the models to a higher polygon count and perhaps tweaked the gameplay a little bit, it may have contended for game of the year. Even with the dated player models, it's still one devilishly good game.
Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
While Soul Reaver starts off slow, it eventually picks up momentum and provides a flawless pace. While the game looks great, it’s incredibly challenging underneath the dazzling eye-candy. Its intense plot and intricate storyline immerse you in the action and keep you motivated. Despite sliding into excessive switch pulling and block pushing, this is still a solid release offering an excellent balance of combat and puzzle-solving. While there are some major problems with its control and camera systems, these should not dissuade you from playing it. The positives significantly outweigh the negatives. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a sophisticated and highly addictive title. It’s also arguably the most satisfying action and adventure release so far on the Dreamcast, and comes highly recommended.

The Video Game Critic
The creatures in this game are truly scary and well designed, especially the hulking, loathsome bosses. The control is responsive, and you won't need to wrestle with the camera too much. Dramatic sound effects and music compliment the hellish atmosphere. Soul Reaver is an adventure with style and originality, and if you haven't already played through the Playstation version, check out Soul Reaver.
