The Next Level
Packaged with a plethora of options, intuitive controls, and a large degree of replay value to keep you busy for months, there's little to complain about other than the fact that you're not the sole owner of your own copy. Re-volt genuinely provides pure racing fun which excels above the other lot of titles currently available on the Dreamcast and should definitely be purchased.

Crazy Taxi is out now, with and Grand Theft Auto 2 is on the horizon, the Dreamcast will soon be swimming in gimmick-racers. Luckily for you, the buyer, Re-Volt is unique in its appeal and surprisingly addictive, and doesn't simply trade off a gimmick. If you like the idea of R/C racing and don't mind a bit of unrealism, take a look, you won't regret it!

Overall, Re-Volt is a terrific racer for the Sega Dreamcast. It’s has detailed visuals, an energetic soundtrack, tons of game modes, and deep game-play. It proves that once and a while, when Acclaim put it’s mind to it, they could churn out a high-quality title that could hang with the best of them. Viva la Dreamcast.

The fact that this game wasn't completely optimized is the only thing that keeps it from being the best racing game on the system. The frame rate could have been optimized with a few extra tweaks, and if they fixed that and the create-a-track AI, this game would have been damned-near perfect. All things considered, however, the game is extremely solid, and is worth a look. Rent it if you're a little iffy on its issues, but otherwise this would be a tough one to pass up for any true racing fanatic.

Planet Dreamcast
Sure, the Dreamcast already has a bunch of racing games, but Re-Volt is unquestionably unique. The difficulty level and somewhat spotty frame rate are really the only significant flaws. It's a solid game with a lot to offer, both in single and multiplayer modes, and in some ways is even better than real R/C racing. Check it out!

Re-Volt does for the racing genre what Red Bull did for vodka – it injects it with a much needed dose of energy and frivolity.

The Video Game Critic
I know this happens to real-life remote controlled cars, but that's one bit of realism I could have done without. Sometimes it can be tough to tell where you're supposed to turn, especially on tracks that double back on themselves. The whimsical Japanese music got on my nerves, although my friend Scott thought it was great. Finally, in the multiplayer mode, you always have to exit to the main menu between races, which is a major hassle. I think Re-Volt could have used some fine-tuning. But if you're looking for some simple multi-player racing action, Re-Volt will do the trick.

Player One

Re-Volt on the Dreamcast is clearly the best version of the three home editions. The soundtrack is very solid, with an array of clubby techno tunes; the graphics are as sharp as they were on the PC; and the control even feels a little better than on the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. That said, it still remains an evilly unforgiving game.
