Gaming Target
If you like racing, and you like Sega, this is for you. If you thought Gran Turismo was good, you'll certainly soil yourself with Sega GT. Especially with the low price tag, Sega's latest gem can't, and shouldn't be ignored.

La perfection automobile made in Sega.

As Sega GT is currently the only game of its type for the Dreamcast this tends to make it a must-have title for anyone who wants the most realistic racing game on the market to date. The overall score has been marked down slightly due to the length of time the player will have to take just to get used to the controls, but be in no doubt that this is a truly entertaining and well designed piece of software. We won't worry about recommending this game to fans of realistic racing games, as we're sure the majority of you stopped reading this review five minutes ago and are heading to your nearest gaming store to pick up your copy. Good work Sega, keep this up and the Dreamcast's future will only get brighter.

In 1997, Sony redefined the way racing games should be made with the release of the critically acclaimed Gran Turismo. The game not only offers a wide selection of cars, but it also manages to keep a somewhat realistic physics model that is accessible to even the most amateurish racing fan. Since then, competing game developers have been clamoring to release their own versions of Sony's influential racer, but so far few, if any, have succeeded. Sega GT attempts to capture some of Gran Turismo's formula for the Dreamcast, but it ultimately falls short due to poor control and an unintuitive interface.

Although Sega GT has extra features a plenty, they still come nowhere near the level of comprehensiveness of Gran Turismo II. Also, factor in the game’s weak controls and there’s another blemish on its record. Sega GT is a nice start, but it still has a long ways to go to become the king of the hill.

All Game Guide
In all, Sega GT is a very solid first effort a "driving simulator," a genre Sony virtually created by themselves only a few years ago. While the arcade and simulation modes may turn off hardcore fans on both ends of that spectrum, those in the middle ground finally have a racer to call their own on the Dreamcast.

Let's get right to it -- Sega GT probably wouldn't even exist if Gran Turismo hadn't been made. It's safe to assume this because Sega GT is a straight-up carbon copy of the PlayStation best seller. Normally that would set alarms off in the game-reviewing part of my brain since originality is among the most important criteria by which I judge a game. Too many games nowadays either casually imitate popular titles or just blatantly rip them off. Sega GT falls somewhere in-between those two categories, but Sega is able to get away with it this time because this particular racing simulation was released on a platform on which a Gran Turismo game will never see the light of day. Sega knew that in order to get a Gran Turismo-like title on their console, they were going to have to get someone to build it from the ground up.

A marred effort, is the best appraisal one can give of Sega GT. For all its achievements, there's always something to be disappointed about, and in a genre as tightly packed as this, one ought not to concern one's self with the likes of this. Steer well clear, at least until the powers that be opt for a sequel.

I have one word for this game: OVERRATED. I don't know what Sega's problem is when it comes to racing games, but Sega GT is a major disappointment.
