It's sad to think that with all the extra time we have had to wait for the PAL version of this game that Sega couldn't have done something with the horrendous load times. It totally ruined the Sonic Shuffle which could have been a great little multi-player (and internet) title were a little more planning put into it. This is one of the biggest letdowns on the Dreamcast to date and falls well short of most other Sonic branded games in the little guys 10 year history. Save your money for Sonic Adventure 2 instead.
Overall, while Sonic Shuffle isn’t a scene-stealer, it isn’t a total waste of time either. It certainly is a serviceable title, and I happen to enjoy it more than your average gamer. It doesn’t quite compare to the Mario Party games, but it is probably the best option for the Dreamcast. For around $15-$20, it may be a title worth checking out if you’re looking for an average quality multiplayer game on the console. Whether you play one game or thirty, it certainly is a much better game if you are a Sonic fan. If not, you may want to look elsewhere for a more rewarding overall experience.
Planet Dreamcast
What can I say? My kids enjoy this game, and it certainly has a few good things going for it, but there isn't anything here Nintendo hasn't done before (and better). In fact, not only is the game lacking in innovation, but it's dragged way, way down by uneven and confusing mini games, far too many load-time interruptions and horrible, sophomoric music. Chances are, if your kids want this game it's because they already own some iteration of Mario Party. They'd be better off sticking with that.

All the hedgehog, half the hustle. The result? Half the score.

When all's said and done, Sega should have sat down and looked at Mario Party, and tried to work out what made it so popular. Board games aren't really party games, are they? It's the mini-games and variety of tasks on hand that build up the party atmosphere, and that's where Sonic Shuffle falls down. It's just not worth persevering with, and Mario Party (and its sequel) stomp all over it. If you're looking for a good console come board game, buy an N64, at the moment, the only alternative likely to get your friends moving on Dreamcast is Samba De Amigo.
The Video Game Critic
There are some original ideas here, like running around a giant turntable or avoiding crashing waves, but the fun factor is seriously lacking. At least the load times aren't bad, but Sonic Shuffle should have been much better.
Defunct Games
Believe me there is plenty more for me to rant about in this game like the ill conceived battle system or horrible storyline but by now you get my point. This is a game I would recommend to no one, not even the most diehard of Sonic fans out there. It is not fun in any way, shape or form no matter how many people you're playing it with. The only thing it could ever do at a party is get your quests quickly spouting excuses to leave and reaching for the door.
