Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition was exactly what I wanted it to be. Everything that I loved about his game when I was younger is still just as fun today and I had an absolute blast shooting and kicking my way through the alien hordes. All that being said, Duke is an acquired taste. Not everyone will appreciate his unique brand of humor and some younger players might just find the whole package laughably archaic. If, however, you’re a longtime fan like me, then you owe it to yourself to talk a walk down this outrageous memory lane.

Despite Duke Nukem 3D’s age, it still plays very well. Blowing up an alien’s head with a shotgun, and blowing up an alien’s everything with a rocket launcher feels great. The rest of the game does feel dated; levels feature no guidance, and the graphics look awful. Even so, Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition deserves to be played by veterans and newcomers alike.

An overall excellent old school FPS. Offers fast paced action, and a few interesting weapons and gadgets. Only its dated graphics, and a few overly complicated levels diminish the experience.

If you’re looking for a fun FPS to play on the Vita, Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition should hit the spot nicely. It’s a classic of the genre and a game that really doesn’t get old really. Even now, years after its release in the 90s, I can play it for a while without getting bored. A testament to good design really.

Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is a solid re-release slash port of the original Duke Nukem 3D which offers (as far as I know of) all of the official content released for the game, and is optimised to run on the latest PC’s, PlayStation 3 and Vita. As for the PC, it doesn’t matter what operating system you run, as the game runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. While it might not offer much new content or features, the Duke doesn’t need any to be good.

PlayStation 3The Irish Times (Jan 14, 2015)
Playing a Duke Nukem game now is like meeting a long-lost, beloved uncle who you’d forgotten was horribly racist. It’s still fun and nostalgic, but that joy is sometimes diluted by the dated and offensive content.

Hail to the king, baby.

Although the Duke is no longer the only sheriff in town and younger, better looking competitors have appeared, Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition offers a well-made experience and gameplay that is amongst the better in the genre even to this day, due to the way it perfectly mixes the secret-hunting of adventure titles with the action of a first-person shooter. The Duke might have aged, but he has aged with dignity and has experience and accomplishments most of his younger colleagues will never achieve, while walking in the footsteps he once imprinted on the ground of the industry.

Still, it's a price worth paying for Duke on the move, just be aware that there's a learning curve. Ultimately we come back to Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition's price point, which matches Steam penny for penny while delivering both the PS3 and Vita versions in a single package. Or in the case of PS Plus subscribers, totally free. If you want to experience Duke Nukem 3D again on PlayStation consoles as opposed to the admittedly superior PC home platform, or want to see what all the fuss is about, I can recommend it without hesitation.

For those looking for a blast from the past, Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition fits the bill pretty nicely. The Vita plays the game without breaking a sweat, and the controls map pretty well. Duke Nukem is most assuredly showing its age, and some people may be turned off by the game’s portrayal of women. But if you remember playing the shareware game in its heyday, or want to experience a first-person shooter that really tests your reflexes, then pick this re-release up.

Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition isn't a fancy HD remaster, but for 10 bucks with cross-play support for PS3 and Vita, it's worth digging into for old and new fans alike. Despite the old school feel, the level design holds up tremendously. So long as you can deal with some over-the-top humor, you'll have fun with Duke all over again.

Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition is the definitive version of Duke Nukem 3D. If you were a fan of the original and want to give it another go then get this version. Duke Caribbean : Life’s a Beach alone is worth the purchase. The levels are still as fun as they were 17 years ago. The weapons are still some of the best you’ll find in any game. If you haven’t played Duke Nukem 3D before but enjoy FPS games that play like Halo then give it a try. For all you Modern Warfare kids though this game wont be for you. Not like that would be a problem as your probably not old enough to play Duke Nukem 3D anyway!

PS VitaPSX Extreme (Jan 15, 2015)
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition on the Vita is a mostly enjoyable experience. It lacks the refinement and cleanliness I anticipated, as some of those bugs really shouldn’t be here, and the multiplayer especially suffers. And I don’t care how nifty it is, I will always prefer buttons to touchscreen controls. Otherwise, this is Duke Nukem in all his corny, cheesy, B-movie glory. The weapons and pacing are great and the fun factor is sky-high, provided you’re not led down a dark path of frustration due to outdated design. The bottom line is that if you know what to expect, you’ll probably be satisfied.

Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is a history lesson worth paying attention to. Those weaned on modern shooters may find the entire thing visually dated and mechanically frustrating, but under that tough, ugly shell lies a finely-honed FPS with plenty of enjoyment to be had even after two decades.

Balls-out fun with the undisputed King of carnage, but it won't win over new players.

PlayStation 3Cubed3 (Jan 31, 2015)
Slightly buggy, but very functional, it is an okay port of Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition. It is very peculiar that such an old game has the issues it does on modern hardware, especially when during the online action. While the multiplayer was an unfortunate casualty, the single-player action totally rocks. The lack of fine-tuning of the control scheme and core mechanics clearly illustrates that this is a very lazy port of the PC version, but should players overcome these glaring oversights, Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is still a very fine first-person action game. It still is one of the fastest ones around, and in an age of hyperrealism, it is a breath of fresh air to play this immortal classic that ignores realism and stole so much from Hollywood. The world will never see a game quite like this ever again. Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition may not be perfect, but it is still a lot of fun.

PlayStation 3PSX-Sense (Jan 22, 2015)

Duke Nukem 3D somehow holds up as a wicked fun shooter in 2015, and this Megaton Edition is a worthwhile compilation.

PlayStation 3Thunderbolt Games (Jun 01, 2015)
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is a solid collection for anyone still nostalgic for Duke’s brand of gory antics or those wanting to test their mettle against the corridor shooters of old. Don’t expect much in the way of new features, and even two decades later the old mouse-and-keyboard combo still beats a controller any day of the week, but it’s still charming and as another cross-buy for PS3 and Vita, it’s hard to say no at such a cheap asking price.

The Duke himself is an outdated embarrassment, but his best game was always ahead of its time – and still has much to teach modern shooters.

PS VitaPush Square (Jan 20, 2015)
If you've any interest in gaming history, or get a warm, nostalgic feeling about having played Duke's adventures in the past, then Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is well worth your time. If, however, you don't fall into either of these camps, then it's unlikely that any of the smart design decisions made to update this classic will get you past the more antiquated aspects. This is a shame as, despite the odd misstep, it's a perfect fit for the Vita, offering one of the best examples of the genre on the handheld to date.

PS VitaThe Vita Lounge (Jan 17, 2015)
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is a game that is definitely stuck in the past. With a crude and crass lead character that definitely does feel out of place in the 21st Century, the saving grace for this title is that the level design and gameplay will keep you hooked! With multiplayer to boot, Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is a game that is best enjoyed with the sound switched off!

PlayStation 3Cubed3 (Apr 30, 2015)
It's a solid outing, but that's all it is. A textbook remaster, only without the studio adding anything in to the experience that isn't just goofy. Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition only quenches one thirst: playing Duke Nukem 3D with a controller, or on a smaller screen. Beyond that, an older computer and a trip to a local Goodwill to pick up the original would cover the experience just fine.

PS VitaGamestyle (Jan 17, 2015)
There is a lot to like about this trip down memory lane, but really Duke Nukem 3D just feels like a relic from a bygone era. While we would welcome back some of the classic FPS design traits, the rest is best left in the past.

PS VitaDigitally Downloaded (Jan 16, 2015)
Duke Nukem 3D might hold up better than some other classic FPSers, but only just. It's still a genre that obsoletes itself quickly, and this game is no different in that regard. It's decent enough fun, but looking back at it it's nice to realise that the industry has grown up in the years since.

If I’m being honest, playing Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition did more to ruin my childhood memories than it did to entertain. Though, it was nice that I didn’t have wait until after my parents were sleeping before tossing money at those pixilated strippers.

PS VitaGamesRadar (Jan 12, 2015)
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition is a mediocre game that is relying on misty-eyed nostalgia for sales, rather than offering a new spin on 18-years-old content.
