Dune

Although the central core of Dune follows an adventure format with you trying to persuade the Fremens to join you there is also a chunk of strategy thrown in. The two combine to produce a finished product the keeps you coming back for more. My only complaint is the difficulty level, or the lack of it! Once you've discovered a few basic tricks the game, via non-player characters, gives you enough hints to sail through the early stages. To sum up, Dune is an atmospheric and enjoyable film conversion but unfortunately the difficulty level is just a little on the easy side.

If it sounds like Dune is easy, that's because it is. You'll have to know what you're doing to succeed, but the game does so much initial hand-holding that foreknowledge of the book isn't needed. It's also just plain fun. It's complex enough to make you feel clever, but not overly elaborate. It's primarily a game of moving icons around a map, but it's got enough feedback to make you feel proud of your accomplishments. It makes story changes for gameplay, but respects the book enough that any Dune fan can enjoy the interactive experience of taming Arrakis and liberating the Fremen.

Both the Adventure and the strategic part are very well done. And the strategic part is even real strategy and not a camouflaged action game like Dune 2. The only downside is that it's not too replayable. But that's the price of a gripping storyline...

The game is basically a fine blend between adventure and strategy, and both aspects are very well balanced. As for the graphics, they are beautiful and very well done. I give it a mark of 4 only because it can get a bit tedious at certain points throughout the game.

To z grubsza wszystko, warto jednak zwrócić uwagę na kilka rzeczy. Na pierwszy ogień pójdzie muzyka - jedna z najlepszych jakie słyszałem. Zdarza mi się włączyć komputer i uruchomić Dunę zamiast puszczania kompaktów. Podobno zresztą jest płytka z tą muzyką. Druga rzecz - grafika. Też ciekawa, jednak po dziesięciu minutach, gdy pozna się wszystkie tła i twarze zaczyna być monotonna. A sama akcja - dosyć nudna. Na skończenie gry potrzeba kilkunastu godzin, mniej więcej trzy-cztery razy za dużo. Nie wróżę więc DUNE wielkiego sukcesu rynkowego, choć dla miłośników Herberta i gier strategicznych jest to pozycja godna uwagi.

Dune makes great strides in taking Sega CD into the "multimedia revolution", but the heart of this audio/visual extravaganza is a straightforward, overly liner adventure that just isn't fun.

Die stilvolle VGA-Grafik und die exzellente Begleitmusik schaffen eine vorzügliche Atmosphäre. Der Spielfluß ist zudem flott, die Bedienung komfortabel und das Regelwerk leicht verständlich. Auf Dauer versandet bei Dune der Spielwitz aber ein wenig. Für ein Strategiespiel ist der Ablauf zu linear und bietet relativ wenig Freiraum zum Experimentieren. Man klappert immer wieder einzelne Stützpunkte ab, um nach Spice zu suchen, hilfreiche Gegenstände zu bergen oder die Truppen an andere Orte zu schicken. Die Story entwickelt sich zwar voran, aber Sie haben wenig Möglichkeiten, deren Verlauf zu beeinflussen. Leider haben die Programmierer nicht an verschiedene Schwierigkeitsgrade oder unterschiedliche Szenarien gedacht. Spätestens wenn man Dune einmal durch hat, dürfte das Programm im Regal verstauben. Mangels Variationen ist der Wiederspiel-Wert gering. Fortgeschrittenen Spielern wird zu wenig geboten, aber für Strategie-Einsteiger ist das Programm interessant.

Either way, while I’ve suffered through this game more than once, it’s really only because the game is maybe three or four hours long if you know who to click on. It’s not a bad waste of time if you turn the sound off and glide through. Of course, if you’ve never played the game before and you happen to have a knife handy, stabbing yourself repeatedly in the stomach would likely be a more fun, and definitely more productive, option.

Zu dem Strategiespiel Dune kann Ich nur sagen: Voll in den Sand gesetzt. Fühlen sich Fans des Buches zu Begin des Spiels dank der bekannten Namen und Figuren auf Arrakis noch wie zuhause, kommt nach dem ersten gespielten Stündchen die totale Ernüchterung. Dune bietet auf Dauer so gut wie keine Abwechslung, die strategische Herausforderung tendiert gegen Null, und der Spielspaß verrinnt so schnell wie ein Eimer Wasser in der Sahara.
