Skepticism would normally be justified regarding an RPG on the PSP, but Throne of Agony is amazing.

Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony is far from perfect but it is, by far, one of the most enjoyable hack-and-slash adventures fit for your PSP. Fans of this genre and the series will definitely like the game’s world and action that seldom feels repetitive and with a lot to do this game makes the perfect travel companion. While the quests could have used more variety, the tons of secrets to uncover and areas to explore will keep you more than busy. This is a must have for fans of the series or gamers looking for a good hack-and-slash for their PSP.

I'm huge on adventuring and I found Throne of Agony to be pretty damn entertaining. The overall presentation was top notch, the planetary soundtrack and loot were kick ass and the selection of quests was inspiring. Also, the diversity of creatures was very impressive and I was never left feeling like I'd killed the same monster too many times. On the whole, I think this is one of the best adventures I've had the chance to get involved in and would easily recommend your company to my friends. Personally, I'd get rid of the rock guy, but hey, that's not my business.

Dungeon Siege boasts an outstanding orchestrated musical score, and you can save your place at any time. The load screens are kept to a minimum, but their meters are the annoying kind where the last 10 percent is 90 percent of the wait. Still, Dungeon Siege has managed to maintain my attention for several weeks, and I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface. This is one easy-to-play adventure that even casual warriors can appreciate.

Developers SuperVillain has taken the educated decision to make the series more accessible to the PSP, and while they may make a few enemies along the way, the real winners are the ones that give the title the chance it deserves. Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony might not be perfect, but it’s still the best the PSP has seen genre wise.

IGN
Throne of Agony offers the Dungeon Siege experience, albeit tweaked for a mobile audience. Combat is more dynamic and visceral thanks to these changes, though old-school fans may long for the point-and-click interface of the original. Along with great presentation and accessibility, Throne of Agony offers a lengthy quest filled memorable locations and snazzy enemies. Some of the quests will feel a little shallow, but overall the game’s strengths outweigh its weaknesses.

In the end, the conclusion is positive: Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony is a solid game with enough depth, beautiful graphics and more than enough content to keep you occupied for a while. If you want an action RPG on the PSP then this game is without a doubt one you'll have to get. If you don't like Diablo and its copycats then this dungeon crawler won't be able to convince you of the opposite.

Thunderbolt Games
Throne of Agony is arguably the best Action-RPG available on the PSP at the moment, and if you're a fan of the genre it'd be a criminal to skip this in favour of some of the more derivative fair that clutters the Sony release schedule from time to time. The basic experience is nothing short of excellent, and even with the annoyances of the genre and the shortcomings of the engine, Dungeon Siege is a worthy purchase. Just don't sit on the toilet playing it all day, it'll become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony is an engrossing RPG with enough to keep both the stat freaks and action junkies happy, with a good story and very few annoying flaws. After a while, especially after you get past level 30 the combat, as it did with Baldur’s Gate, does start to get a little bit repetitive, but if you’re an RPG fan the repetition may well be what draws you to the game!

In the end, Throne of Agony doesn't do anything that hasn't been seen in the genre before. Luckily, it does what it does very, very well -- well enough that there isn't a better hack 'n slash on the PSP right now. If a meaty but ultimately shallow button masher is how you like to pass the time, here's proof that the genre isn't without at least a little life left in it.

Rarely do you ever find a dungeon-crawling action game as well thought-out as this one; a game that is feature-rich, playable, beautiful, is downright addictive, and does the Dungeon Siege lineage justice. For a first effort from a new developer, Throne of Agony is a surprising and seriously worthwhile way to spend some time. We can only imagine what SuperVillain could do with a proper console at its disposal. Here's hoping we find out soon.

Worth Playing
Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony is a decent dungeon crawler. If you’re a fan of these kinds of games, this is a good one, and if you’re not, this will not be the one that changes your mind. It’s a well-done take on a relatively standard formula.

All in all SuperVillain Studios have crafted a fantastic little game with Throne of Agony and if it was not for some long load times between areas in conjunction with the collection of bugs and other eccentricities we probably would have rated the game a bit higher. We may not be a huge fan of ports and re-releases here on DarkZero but there is no denying the quality on show in this one. It is a must for dungeon crawler, hack-and-slash fans in possession of a PSP.

For a fantasy hack and slash, you could certainly do a lot worse. Recommended for beginners and intermediate gamers that will take their time savoring the flavors of the gameplay one bite at a time instead of trying to gulp it down all at once.

The last action, hack n' slash RPG we played on the PSP was Untold Legends: The Warrior's Code and on the whole we quite enjoyed it. Whilst Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony does have its problems it's certainly our favourite game of its type on the PSP so far. It's not quite as good as the original Dungeon Siege that appeared on the PC but it's an enjoyable game, despite its problems, that definitely feels like a Dungeon Siege game. It's definitely worth a look if you want an enjoyable hack n' slash experience for the PSP.

That being said, these annoying points stand out because, by and large, Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony is a pretty fun game. And with a 15- to 20-hour main quest that you can play through with three different characters (and again in co-op play), you'll definitely get your money's worth. It's not going to change your life, but if you've got a couple of spare Jacksons kicking around, or if grandma wants to know what to get you for Christmas this year, you could do a lot worse.

While streamlining the Dungeon Siege experience for the handheld market undoubtedly made sense when it was discussed at design time, the sense of depth and involvement that's been lost in the process leaves a frustratingly shallow game that fails to do justice to the often quite excellent building blocks it was made with, ultimately offering very little incentive to keep the player plugging away beyond the first few hours. Unfortunately that's something even Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and a whole truck load of the softest cushions can't improve.

Dungeon Siege PSP was an idea that could have had merit but it has not been well executed. While it does port the PC style action well to the system, there's just too many problems with it to recommend. Definitely one to check out when it hits the bins.
