I love the KOEI Warriors series. The simplicity of game play, the fields of enemies to cut down are positively therapeutic and it’s a game that anyone can jump into and play. KOEI’s shin Sangokumusō 5 earns more respect than previous titles because it manages to make some much needed additions while retaining the fun of the earlier games. I can’t wait until Dynasty Warriors 6 is released on February 11 so I can understand exactly what Lu Bu said to me right before sending me to my maker.

Dynasty Warriors 6 doesn't do anything to appeal to those who have previously shunned the series but then again why should it? The Dynasty Warriors series has always been one that has given the fans more of what they like and Dynasty Warriors 6 continues this tradition. There have been some minor changes to the formula which do have a bigger effect on the overall experience than you might think but fans of the series are pretty much guaranteed to appreciate what the game has to offer. The lack of online play is unfortunate however and it's a feature that future releases in the series really need to include. Dynasty Warriors 6 is certainly a step in the right direction however.

Do these subtle additions make it the best Dynasty Warriors? Yes. But could it also be classified as more of the same? Most definitely. This is a small step forward, but for a series that hasn't moved an inch over five installments, it's a mind-boggling breakthrough.

Lighthearted jabs at standard Dynasty Warriors reviews aside, this latest incarnation is an awful lot like all the others. If you don't know a Liu Bei from a Lu Bu, you're not going to be interested, but those who understand the thrill of taking down the thousandth enemy in a single battle will enjoy it. Just be sure to give the new Renbu system a chance. A little change can't hurt this series.

Dynasty Warriors games are an acquired taste, albeit one acquired by a large and hungry fan-base, but if any in the series represents a chance to bring in new blood, it's this one. For those who have never experienced the DW series before, this is the perfect place to start, and either find a challenging, delightfully tactical slice of unpretentious fun or unearth a deformed, unlovable, fossilised relic of a bygone age. At anything more than a budget price-point, Dynasty Warriors 6 may sadly prove too expensive a gamble for many.

If you are new to the series then I would say that this is the title you should test to see if you are a lover or hater… but if you have been here before and left last time with disappointment, then nothing much has changed. The fans of the series will love this game, everyone else need not apply.

If you like Japanese hack-and-slash games, this is a good one. From a visual perspective, arguably the best ever released for a next gen console. However, it is still ultimately a button masher, and the strategic additions are not yet significant enough to change this. On the plus side, DW6 is an easy 1000 points if a bit time consuming.

It's obvious that Dynasty Warriors 6 is a game made for its long-term fans, and there is little doubt that they will lap it up even while they complain about it being simplified. For everyone else, there probably hasn't been a better time to try out the series, but if you've played in the past and it wasn't to your liking, version #6 won't change your mind.

For all its shortcomings Dynasty Warriors 6 is still an entertaining, and rather lengthy, game. Fans of the series will be glad to have a next-gen version however it just feels rushed to market when Koei could have taken their time and really 'owned' the genre for this new generation of consoles. Not a bad purchase for only $AU89.95, but don't expect a revolution.

DW6 is about as deep as a puddle but that doesn't stop it from being a great guilty pleasure. If you play with a friend in co-op modes, you'll have exponentially more fun. The sixth installment must be a charm because many problems fans had with past titles have been looked at to varying degrees. Still, with all the changes, they still feel minor in the grand scheme of things.

For better or for worse, Dynasty Warriors 6 follows the same formula as all of the previous Dynasty Warriors games. Despite the additions of a couple of new moves and a shiny new coat of paint, if you’ve ever played a Dynasty Warriors game before, you’re going to feel like you’ve already played this one as well. And while you’ve got to admire the series for its longevity, there comes a point that something’s got to change. While I’m sure that plenty of fans of the series will flock to the game like ants to a picnic, even the most hardcore fan has to start feeling the effects of that déjà vu feeling. Maybe we’ll see some changes in the inevitable Dynasty Warriors 7, such as the long overdue addition of online play. However, if this HD-era debut is any indication, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Dynasty Warriors 6 pretty much devolves into uncontrolled button mashing. This is due to the restriction to only one attack type for most of the time, until your Musou meter builds up (and then, that only adds one additional, albeit significantly more powerful, attack), and the uselessness of defending because of the sheer number of troops involved. The replacement of combos with increasingly more powerful attacks removes a vital part of the game. But this wouldn’t be as disappointing if the features were more complete. Beyond the elementary and repetitive fighting, Dynasty Warriors 6 lacks online multiplayer, comes up quite short in the strategic aspects of battle management, and looks outdated while performing worse. If this is a tactical action game, I’ll eat my hat. Personally, I much prefer Iron Grip: Warlord as a game of mowing down faceless troops. I guess the sixth time is not the charm.

I can't even remember the first Dynasty Warriors game. It feels like a series that has always been there. Although it has never been one of my absolute favorite series, the Dynasty Warriors games provided a little bit of mindless fun and filled my occasional need for aggressive button-mashing gameplay. But I am sad to say that the affection I once felt for this series is beginning to wane. What was once regarded as a fun-but-shallow game series has transformed into a shallow-and-pointless one. Dynasty Warriors 6 does not totally fail as a game, but it has begun my own personal disenchantment with the series. There is a whole lot of potential behind the Dynasty Warriors series, and it is a real shame that it has become stagnant over the years. Even though Dynasty Warriors 6 does do a lot of things better than before, it is just not enough to make it a great game.

If you love the Dynasty Warriors series then you probably already own this game. This is the same game we have seen since day one. Graphically this game is not what it should be, even on both systems. Dynasty Warriors is still lacking online game play, which is a big kick to the ass to fans considering other hack and slash games have made the leap to online game play.

Overall, while KOEI have brought some new features to the game and have upgraded the graphics, Dynasty Warriors 6 still feels as old and repetitive as the previous five reincarnations. Unless you are an avid fan and have £40 to spare, Dynasty Warriors 6 isn’t a must have game. Hopefully Dynasty Warriors 7 will change that, but until then, Game Over.

Neue Modi? Fehlanzeige. Frische Talente der Schlachtvarianten? Gibt's nicht. Moderne Technik? Haha! Also Koei: Macht es künftig besser!

Dynasty Warriors 6 is best summed up as a mild distraction. We didn’t find it as bad as previous games in the series yet there isn’t really anything here that’s worth paying full price. DW6 is a budget game but without the cheap price. Though if you’ve remained a fan of the series then this is probably the best version to date.

While it certainly won’t attract any new fans with its sixth incarnation, due to its frustratingly limited gameplay and odd quirks - such as the numbingly repetitive and misplaced heavy metal soundtrack, and that taking on hundreds of enemies sometimes feels more like swatting away troublesome flies - it will most likely be received as a fitting fan service. For those of us who have always been confused as to how the franchise has survived three generations of gaming, we will continue to look at this latest entry with one eyebrow firmly raised.

Yes, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms tale is enthralling. But is anything enthralling 14 times in a row? The Romance of the Three Kingdoms setting works in Koei's strategy series because it's never the same game twice -- the focus is on how the player outsmarts an ever-changing enemy. Hatching plots and stratagems is also more in line with daily life in the Three Kingdoms Period; it wasn't a bloodbath in the streets every day, after all. Dynasty Warriors, on the other hand, is the same game every damn time. The same battles, the same strategy, the same results. There were other wars in Chinese history. Can't Koei come up with a setting that respects the rich tapestry of Chinese civilization but also offers the player something different? The Spring and Autumn Period? The Mongol invasions? The Opium Wars, maybe? As if Westerners weren't already ignorant of Chinese history to begin with -- now they probably think the Chinese fought the same damn war 14 times.

Problem is, DW games sell - which means developer Omega Force has no motivation to innovate...unless you count swimming and climbing ladders as new-gen "innovations". Which I sure as hell don't.

Well, somehow the series hasn’t actually gone anywhere. It has gone forward in some aspects and backwards in others. The removal of the tactical aspect of the game is something I can’t figure out. It was easily the best thing that has been brought into the series and its removal shouts lack of ambition! If they had incorporated it into DW6, this could easily be a high 60% game. The new looks does bring the game some kudos, but looks alone won’t sell. The lack of any online multiplayer (again!), the fact this is still basically the same game and the removal of the tactics side means this game is quite simply not worth buying. The developers have missed a trick. After Empires, the series was beginning to show some promise and I was looking forward to DW6. Put simply. If you want to play a Dynasty Warriors game, get DW: Empires. It’ll be cheaper and put simply, it’s a better game!

Crucially, if you stand back and think of what the series could be evolving into with current hardware then you can’t help but look at DW6 as a disappointment. Wherever the series goes after this iteration it needs to offer a huge reworking from its current archaic form to make it worthwhile.

Dynasty Warriors 6 isn't necessarily broken, but the fundamental formulas that govern the gameplay are terribly stale. But at the end of the day, hardcore Dynasty Warriors fans who want the PC version will still probably pick up a copy; it's a shame that they'll have to suffer through such inexcusable visuals and stagnant mechanics -- and they don't even get the extra content from the PS2 version. After playing so many Warriors games, I'm becoming hard pressed to see where the fun is here.
