Atari STComputer and Video Games (CVG)
Dynasty Wars is a slick, graphically brilliant and very playable game which offers an unusual twist on the beat 'em up theme. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's well worth checking out.

I'm at a Crossroads about this game. It's good, but not exactly superb or awe-inspiring. There's nothing really wrong with it, just nothing all that great either.
79
Amstrad CPCComputer and Video Games (CVG)
Similar to the Spectrum game, but without the colour problems. The best of the 8 bit conversions.
77
ZX SpectrumComputer and Video Games (CVG)
Pretty good conversion, apart from the camouflaging effect of the monochrome colour scheme. Worth getting if you liked the coin-op.
76
AmigaThe Games Machine (UK)
Graphically the game is quite good, but the in-game tune grates on the ears after about ten seconds.

AmigaAmiga Action
Programmers Tiertex have made a really good job of transferring a dull coin-op to the Amiga, but I'm afraid I can't really recommend it.

AmigaAmiga Format
A reasonable chop-em-up which has the distinction of horse-riding heroes, enough original elements and is bound together with a certain slick style. Once it's finished - which shouldn't take long - it's unlikely you'll ever play Dynasty Wars again.

Commodore 64Computer and Video Games (CVG)
Ghastly colours make this version look very ugly, but it plays just like the others.

Even watching Dynasty would be more playable than playing this! The C64 game has dull graphics and repetitive gameplay, but it's a thoroughbred compared to the Amiga donkey.

My only amusement from the Amiga version came when my horse was moving in the opposite direction to which it was galloping. US Gold really ought to know better than to trot out such a lame game.

Anybody who played DW in the arcades will be disappointed with this conversion. I was expecting something better. The original coin-op looked a fair bet for a good conversion; the graphics were simple and the scrolling not too fast. However, the Amiga version features small, rough-looking sprites that flit unconvincingly around the screen. It looks like an ST Port, or at least a waste of the Amiga's potential. The only attractive feature is the sound. The in-game tune is a reasonable ditty, but it's hardly the pick-me-up the rest of the game needs.

Atari STPower Play

ZX SpectrumThe Games Machine (UK)
The main problem is the colour (or rather lack of), everything is monochromatic. This makes even the sharpest-eyed person wonder where the sprites have gone, and that backward walking horse is still there.
48
AmigaPower Play
45
Commodore 64The Games Machine (UK)
This version is a bit more colourful than the Spectrum offering, but the sprites are just as difficult to spot. Maybe Tiertex should give up programming and work for the army, they are wonderful with camouflage.
