If you want a good workout, sign on with Jim. It worms your heart to find a 16-bit game this good.

I love this game. I personally feel that EWJ 2 outperforms it's predecessor in almost everyway imaginable. The animation is smoother, the game is much more balanced and diverse, the graphics are better and this game has even more personality. Those crazy guys at Shiny made a game that is even wackier and funnier than the first EWJ. I just want to know one thing? How are they going to top this game? Amazing!

If it wasn't for Yoshi's Island this would be platform game of the year, period. I am very pleased that this isn't just "more levels of Jim", but there are actual play mechanic improvements. I can't get over the creativity of Shiny; the extent of weirdness in this game can't even be matched by 4 a.m. writing binges in the offices of GameFan. Nonstop humor, nonstop puzzles, precise jumping, swinging, bosses...the whole package you loved last year, only bigger, better, more and Tommy T. Round 1, fight!

That lankiest of Texans is back, with more of the zany antics that made the original so popular. This game is great! What are you waiting for? Go get it!

Each stage seems to introduce a novel new gameplay mechanic, like "Lorenzo's Soil" where you traverse an underground maze by blasting through its soil. There's even a side-scrolling shooter stage where you glide over beautiful islands and shimmering blue water. A password feature and "easy" difficulty setting keep the level of frustration to a minimum. Earthworm Jim 2's graphics are absolutely brilliant, and the audio is no less impressive. Clever sound effects include old ladies who accuse you of being "fresh" as they fall into your lap. After viewing the humorous ending, I finally realized EJ2 has a distinct Monty Python influence. So if you tried the first Earthworm Jim but couldn't overcome its insane difficulty, give this quality sequel a go.

Sonic niggles aside, Earthworm Jim 2 is a wonderfully done run-and-jump side-scroller, and belongs in every Genesis user's collection.

Earthworm Jim 2 comes together in a tight little bundle that's packed with humor at every turn. Even better, it looks and sounds pretty. Couple that with solid character control and a challenging but rarely unfair level structure, and you have a game that will not only hold your interest long enough for you to finish it, but one that will keep you coming back for more.

The graphics are near perfect, with eye-popping 3D backgrounds, vibrant color and animation that belongs in a cartoon. If you love humor, love action-platform games, or just love games in general, you should not let this title wiggle away.

Loaded with humor, awesome graphics and incredibly diverse levels, Earthworm Jim 2 manages to exceed the lofty standards of the first game. Fans of the original will eat some serious dirt if they miss this one.

EJ2 for the Saturn, remains one of the freshest, most enjoyable games ever made. Don't expect to find anything new in this edition of the game, though. Unlike the special edition of the first game for the Sega CD, EJ2 will enjoy no new material on Saturn. What it does have, though, are much better graphics and sound, which make him brighter, louder and well worth playing all over again.

Earthworm Jim 2 isn't a full blown sequel as much as it is an extension of the first game. The sight gags are different --- such as the level where you use a giant marshmallow to catch a gaggle of puppies being tossed out a third-party window --- but the play mechanics are mostly the same. Jim has a few new weapons and can stretch his body a few new ways, but otherwise, it's more of the goofy gameplay, it's more of the goofy gameplay you know and love. Between Jim 2 and Sega's own Vectorman, Genesis platform games are going out with one heck of a bang.

Wrap that all around some of Tommy Tallarico's best soundtrack work and it all creates a nearly perfect gaming experience. Even when it's doing something hundreds of other games do, it's that much better in Earthworm Jim 2. It's a rare case where the gameplay is certainly important, but the graphics and soundtrack play a huge role in its success. It's unforgettable, partly because of how completely off the wall it is, and partly because it's just a great video game.

To its credit, the fun factor is high and with all the gadgets to try out and some very fun stages (like the game show level), your interest will be maintained throughout the game. If you played the original or enjoyed the cartoon then I highly suggest this one too.

It's the creativity put into the situations and the variety of gameplay that make this cartridge as good as it is.

Its a long time since I laughed as much as I did while playing this game. Each of the levels is slick and well thought out and there is enough variety in this game to make you want to keep playing until you have completed it.

SNESGame Informer Magazine
With a roster of quirky characters, silly puzzles, and unique weapons, Earthworm Jim 2 has lost so little of its luster over the years that it can easily stand alongside many of today's best platformers. Only a few difficult minigames hamper this title's appeal, which makes this sequel only slightly less of a classic than the first earthworm Jim game.

SNESSuper Play Magazine UK
Delicious graphics, amusing jokes and chucklesome sub-games aside, Earthworm Jim 2 is actually no more exciting or compelling than any other competently-produced platform game, and I've already got lots of them. Encountering the jokes and eye-popping level designs is highly entertaining the first time around - I laughed until the man in the flat downstairs came round and complained - but they'll start to wear thin after you've played it through a few times. (Which, with limitless continues, shouldn't take long.) If you did buy it, though, you'd probably find yourself suddenly very popular with your SNES-owning chums.

SEGA SaturnElectric Playground
The game is a collection of slick computer rendered backgrounds with a bunch of new weapons that doesn't stray too far from the winning formula the game had on the SNES or Genny, but it has been tightened up and enhanced in a number of areas.

SEGA SaturnGameFan Magazine
What we've got here is EWJ2 with arranged music, new backgrounds with crazy parallax, some cool lighting and new surfin' cows...great! Especially if you've never played it before! This is the way to go for you first time Jim'ers. The only drag is they took out the line scrolls in Puppy Love. While I do beg for a true 32-bit Jim, I'll be lovin' this one for the time being.

SEGA SaturnGame Revolution
The only real drawback to Earthworm Jim 2 is that it is nothing new. We've seen this same game about a year ago on the Genesis and SNES. Even though this is the best version so far released, it doesn't have any new levels or enemies. (Side note: There was a version of Earthworm Jim for the Sega CD which did have an additional level.) Fans of Jim are eagerly awaiting a new game that takes full advantage of the next generation machines. With the success of both Earthworm Jim and Earthworm Jim 2, we're sure to see our favorite invertebrate again.

SEGA SaturnGame Players
What this means in the end is that if you already own a 16-bit version of EJ 2, then it's revamped backgrounds and enhanced color palette are not really enough to merit a second purchase. However, if you missed the game this first time around, it's well worth picking up on the Saturn.

SEGA SaturnGamePro
While Jim 2 is a port of an already familiar game, it's been pumped full of life so that it almost feels new. With EWJ 2's elements enhanced so well, a new and original next-gen Jim game should really be something.

GenesisElectronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)
The first EWJ really got my attention when it was released and the second version was no different. I imagined all of the wackiness was used up in the initial EWJ, but to my surprise it wasn't. The entire game remains basically the same with the only change being the levels, which are even crazier than before: slugs running from salt, saving puppies being thrown from windows and racing chickens through levels all make EWJ2 well worth the wait.

Game Boy AdvanceGameSpy
Earthworm Jim deserves better than this. The franchise's strengths are in its humor and nuttiness. Unfortunately, those are overshadowed in this port by some frustrating gameplay and an infuriating password system. What the world really needs is a new EWJ game built from the ground up. In the meantime, if you have the desire to kick some butt as a cyber-suited worm, you're probably better off pulling your old system and cart out of the closet or attic.

When this game debuted on the Genesis and SNES, it was a wonderful game. When translating this game to the GBA, Super Empire forgot to do something extremely vital, test the game for bugs. There are so many bugs in this game that at times it is unplayable, and futile to even attempt to do so. If you are craving a good platformer, I recommend Super Mario Advance 2 or Sonic Advance instead.

Game Boy AdvanceIGN
After the somewhat sloppy (but acceptable) performance of the original Earthworm Jim game on the Game Boy Advance, it's just shocking to see the sequel perform much worse on the handheld. We can understand and almost forgive the problems with the first game on the handheld...the hardware was fresh and new to programmers and publishers. After a year with the Game Boy Advance on the market, we should be moving forward, not backward...the sequel is sloppily produced and bug-filled. It's still playable, but it's extremely difficult to overlook all the game's problems...because there's just so many of them.

Game Boy AdvanceGameSpot
Originally released toward the tail end of the 16-bit era on the SNES and Genesis, Earthworm Jim 2 defied the conventions of what gamers had come to expect from a 2D platformer. Featuring a memorable yet unlikely hero, outlandish humor, and surreal level design, it was an unusual game to say the very least. Close to seven years later, Majesco Games has brought Earthworm Jim 2 to the Game Boy Advance. Unfortunately, this port has a host of new problems that render the game virtually unplayable.
