Like the recent Genesis version, Tides of Time Sega CD is an excellent sequel, offering enchanting graphics and sounds. It's not easy, though, so be ready for a strategic challenge. Nor is it a fast action/adventure game, which means you may be calling out the tuna boats if you don't have a lot of patience. But those who love long, slowly unfolding strategy adventures will love this mammal. He's still the King of the Sea.
Ecco: The Tides of Time is just as fun as the original, and NEEDS to be in your collection. Incredibly fun, incredibly unique, and incredibly challenging. It is just rather sad that the series is not all that well-known, because these games are truly masterpieces plain, and simple. If you ever have the chance to play this or any of the other Ecco games, do not pass it up. I can guarantee that you will have a great time, and if it's this particular game, I guarantee you 100% that you will feel alone and scared, as Ecco was.

Ecco and me did not get along. Ecco 2, however, is a much better game, featuring more of what I love (action) and less of what I hate (puzzles and riddles). It still has a little of both, so it bugged me a bit, but not nearly as much as part one. The graphics in E2 are stupendous and the music is very good. If you liked one, stop eating tuna! E2 is the stuff!

That’s no bad thing though, because if you loved the first Ecco, you’re sure to love this one too. I really did. It oozes quality and style, and the makers have obviously put 110% into making this a piece of art. More of the same is sometimes good, especially if it was beautifully executed the first time around.

Now a faster, stronger Ecco will save the world. New, improved Ecco can: perform a 360 degree sonar blast, charge, double-charge, speed swim, flip and sing. Game features also include: map with songs, glyphs that hold clues and messages, pulsars, teleporting and morphing.

It's a very relaxing game, not for those of you are really fidgety and want to play fighting games all the time. Fans of the first Ecco game will want to check it out; the ring-jumping stages are cool indeed.

Don't be lulled by Ecco's beauty: This game's strategic challenge may frustrate younger gamers. Passwords help, but plan on diving in headfirst and staying under water for a long time. This game's worth the effort, though, because Ecco's definitely back with a splash.

There's no doubt that Tides of Time offers a lot, providing a scenic variety of levels for the player to swim through and solve. Occasional control glitches do bring their share of frustration, but you still get a solid dose of entertainment. This sequel proves that Ecco's not washed up yet.

OK, so it's just a little extra something that shouldn't matter, but if you like Ecco anyway, the CD version is definitely the one you should pick up.

Take the Ecco 2 game and add beautiful music and excellent sound effects and you get the Ecco 2 CD. Fans of the dolphin series (like me) will probably love this one, others will probably be converted.

Your favorite dolphin is back with a whole new collection of puzzles, so if you liked the first Ecco, it goes without saying that you'll love this one. In this edition you'll rescue baby Orcas, teleport to distant lands, and even morph into other sea creatures. The gameplay is more complex this time around, resulting in tougher and more complicated puzzles. There's a new pseudo-3D obstacle course stage in which you swim through rings, but it didn't do much for me. Like the first Ecco, the graphics and sound are top notch. The music is more funky this time around, and it will grow on you. With over 40 levels of head-scratching puzzle fun, Tides of Time is a solid sequel.

The first Ecco was a mind-blowing game, yet this version takes that feeling and doubles it! This game has some of the most colorful graphics and a beautifully orchestrated soundtrack. The number of puzzles have been reduced (thank you) and there is more action and adventure to keep you busy. The 3-D levels are a sight to behold as well. Ecco 2 is a definite must-have for all you dolphin lovers.
As far as replay value, there’s nothing special once you beat the game, although it will probably take you a while the first time through anyway. It’s a satisfying game, and probably one of my favorites for the Genesis. It’s worth a purchase since you should be able to find it cheap.

If all this has whet your appetite then we recommend that you give this a try - you’ll have a whale of a time!

Ecco appears to be a decent game for the Game Gear. The graphics, animation and most certainly the colors are very impressive. However, the quest left me hanging as to exactly what I was supposed to do. The control of Ecco 2: Tides of Time doesn't match the overall quality of the game, hurting it significantly. Judging the game is a bit difficult. I didn't really care for it, but Ecco fans might.

While I suspect this will be the one that gets me crucified by irate nostalgics (and, really, my week just isn't complete until that happens) I can't help feeling that 800 points is a lot to ask for a game that few will understand, and even fewer will want to finish.
GenesisGame Players
The only reason for anyone to pick up this game is if you've mastered the old one and you're gonna go into convulsions unless you get a new Ecco challenge within the next few minutes. But if you're had your fill of the lovable dolphin and wouldn't mind seeing Ecco trapped in a tuna net, leave this one on the rack.
The evil alien queen has returned and, once again, players have to guide the heroic Ecco through different underwater levels located in the past, present, and future. If you played the original Ecco the Dolphin and found that traversing the murky depths as a bottlenose dolphin was frustrating and disorienting, you should probably steer clear of the sequel. That's because Ecco: The Tides of Time is simply more of the same, albeit lengthier, more challenging, and occasionally more frustrating.
