Your gateway into the world of Fallen London.
When creating a new character you can pick a name and an image for a lady character...
...or a third gender. Fallen London prides itself on having no discrimination based on gender or sexuality. All romantic options are open to any gender with any gender.
FL is played by picking an action from multiple options. The first in-game screen offers a tutorial of the game.
As you play the game you acquire many different qualities which help define your character, the achievements, social standing, relationships and many other story-related factors.
There are four main attributes which will determine your chances of success in most actions.
Main screen. You can play a limit number of opportunity cards or the storylets in the lower part of the screen. This card requires both a particular quality and a high enough attribute.
Playing a card. Cards are random and appear with various frequencies. When you want to play an action the game will tell you your chances of success based on your current abilities.
Unlike cards, storylet actions are usually repeadable, but they too have requirements. In this case I need to do more investigations if I want to find out the cats' secrets.
It's tough to get info out of a cat.
Cats can be annoying. When you fail an action one of your Menaces will increase - in this case how suspicious I am. If it's get too high I'll be thrown back to New Newgate prison.
Social are an optional, but important part of FL. Your friends may help with some of your problems.
Equipping items will increase your attributes and raise your chances of success, but some items may offer drawbacks.
Many more items are not equippable but are needed for other purposes. Some of the offer hints to the many mysteries of the Bazaar.
Some items are usable. They can be converted into other items or open up new possibilities.
Finally, almost all items can be bought and sold at the infamous Bazaar.
Most of Fallen London's content is free, but some unique stories and extra content can be bought.
