Of course, you'll still have to hike on out to the more remote spots in the wilderness, but since you can buy or even steal a horse to make those trips go quicker, the time spent traveling to a new location is shortened. The game's major cities will be instantly available to all players at once via a fast travel option on the big map, where you can click on a location automatically travel there without having to wait. Additionally, you'll be able to uncover many more fast travel locations on the map, like ruins, smaller towns and villages, and other highlights, by discovering them yourself.

Due to the diversity and individuality presented to the player in the game, it's not possible to adequately explain just how involving and rewarding the experience of Oblivion is, or put over the immense scope of the living, breathing world on offer. Bethesda richly deserves incredible success in producing something so captivating; no doubt at year end the awards will be rolling in. The massive, open-ended and complex nature of choices set before the player offer millions of permutations. Everyone's game will be different, as will the stories told for weeks, months, perhaps even years to come.

Here we have a game that is intelligent and uncompromising yet wonderfully easy to get involved with and enjoy. Yes there are problems with the levelling system, without these issues we’d be in danger of this actually being the proverbial perfect game. Perfection or not, Bethesda has created a milestone in gaming with Oblivion, a free-form adventure of such a high quality that I cannot do anything but offer our highest score. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is not perfect, but it’s the best game in town, avoid it at your peril.

In the last month alone, we have experienced many titles that show off the power of the Xbox 360. Fight Night Round 3 centered on its lifelike boxers and amazing skin physics, and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter was the first game to truly be next gen, but Oblivion takes the term “next gen” to a whole new level. I may have just liked Morrowind when I played it on the original Xbox, but I love Oblivion!

Ultimately, Oblivion is very enjoyable on either Xbox 360 or on PC. The Xbox 360 has some unlockable content available to gamers who must do absolutely every quest available, while the PC version has a downloadable content creator which will extend the replayability. The most impressive thing about Oblivion is how it appeals to every aspect of the RPG genre with a quality that no other RPG has ever done. Whether you’re looking for fast paced combat, an in depth story line, colorful dialog, a completely open-ended questing system, or simply beautiful jaw dropping graphics you will find something you absolutely love to do in Oblivion.

But the odd bug and slightly suspect inventory system does little to deter at what is a masterstroke in game design. Oblivion is perhaps the best reason yet to invest in Microsoft’s new powerhouse and is also a potential game of the year candidate.

In short, there's very little not to like about it. Some of the graphical choices rub us the wrong way. Sure, it's essentially a polished version of Morrowind with a better graphics engine and a different plot. But the painstaking attention to detail, outstanding worldcrafting, and inspired AI make it a huge improvement; and there wasn't all that much wrong with Morrowind to begin with. Oblivion is a stunning game -- don't miss it.

My hope for Elder Scrolls V (the sales of Oblivion pretty much guarantee it'll happen) is that it returns to the strangeness and vastness of Morrowind with the Fast Travel feature, livelier NPCs, better interface and tightened quest structure of Oblivion. But don't get me wrong. These complaints are minor in the face of Oblivion's spectacular virtues. My hats are off to Bethesda and 2K games for taking what they've learned in previous iterations of this sturdy series and moving the franchise forward in a huge way. Oblivion is a blast to play, and it's a considerable achievement in the annals of electronic role-playing games.

If you're a fan of RPGs or the player versus environment aspects of MMORPGs, then you'll love The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I think of it as a Massively Single-player Offline Role Playing Game; there are a lot of interesting characters out there... they just happen to be NPCs.

GiN’s 2006 pick for game of the year comes to the PS3. I have played Oblivion on the PC (though while my Pc was not up to the task graphically, my wife often grabbed the Xbox 360 first leaving me to play only on the PC), the Xbox 360, and now on the PS3. I am as pleased as I was on the PS3 as on the other two platforms. And I expect that Oblivion will take home some more awards this year for the PS3.

PlayStation 3UGO (UnderGroundOnline)
The relatively small problems that the PS3 version of Oblivion has don't really take away from the fact that this is one of the most ambitious and enjoyable RPGs ever released. That ambition was realized in many areas of the game, and while others, like the Radiant AI (which was designed to give each character a real life with a daily schedule of things to do and time to sleep) wound up being a bit of a let-down, this is still one of the best games you can find on store shelves. If you love RPGs and haven't gotten a chance to see it on the PC or Xbox 360, then do yourself a favor and slap down the cash for Oblivion on the PS3.

Most importantly and most powerfully, however: The completely open-ended nature of this experience creates a very real sense of infinite possibilities. Rest assured that the way you play through Oblivion will differ completely from just about everyone else. You can cast magic. You can fight sword fights. You can collect herbs and concoct potions. You can thieve and steal your way from location to location. You can become a vampire. And so on, and so on, and so on.

But if you don't own this game, you need to. The sheer size and beauty of this world allow you to delve in as deep as you are willing to go, and its presentation on the PS3 makes it memorable and fun. The depth of the story and side quests will keep you coming back for more, so if you call yourself any sort of RPG aficionado, you need to own this game. Right now. Go.

In the end, it's not a question of which The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion you purchase and play - it's a question of what platforms you have access to. What can you play this on? Have you got a high spec PC or an Xbox 360 (I'm assuming you have a PS3!) Does it matter? No. All that matters is that you play Oblivion at some point in your gaming life - and the sooner the better! Even if you dislike RPGs, I know you'll appreciate the expansive, ever-changing gaming world of Cyrodiil - and you're bound to find a guild and a class that suits your playing style too, whatever that may be. It's a shame that the best game on the PS3 is a multi-format title, but Bethesda have put the PS3 hardware to great use, bringing you an adventure that you'll never forget. Well, what are you waiting for? A sign from God, or a threat from the Dark Brotherhood?

At the end of the day I can't help but give the PS3 version of Oblivion a ringing and enthusiastic endorsement. I highly recommend this game for PS3 owners that haven't tried it on other platforms. The PS3 isn't exactly saturated with RPG's right now, so fans of the genre would be foolish not to give this game a try. There's a reason that Oblivion has won dozens of awards on other platforms - it is an almost flawless role-playing game experience with hundreds of hours' worth of content.

The game has been simultaneously released on the new Xbox 360 and the PC. Many fans of the series feel the game has been designed and changed with the console market in mind. This is probably so and the interface design reflects this, but, in truth, it is easier to use than in previous Elder Scrolls games. One key press brings up a menu from which you can access maps, your inventory, spells and your character statistics. At times you will need to scroll through a long list rather than select an object from an open 'backpack'.

Make no mistake; Oblivion is simply a 5-star game. Even with some minor problems the game never begins to mislead you. It's big, it's epic, and it's one of the most addicting games I've ever played, ever. Problems never surmount the gameplay and the framerate never drops too low. I mean, have I mentioned how big the game is? The fact that everything you ever do in the game (bodies never disappear, swords stay, people remember you) is kept track of forever is a testament to the hugeness of Oblivion.

If you love adventure, if you love role-playing, or if you just want to experience a new way of life, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a fresh take on an established genre, yet one we seldom see on console systems. The Xbox 360 is more than powerful enough to deliver this landmark achievement in game design, and the word is just out that the PS3 will be getting its own version of Oblivion. So whether you are a PC gamer, Xbox 360 gamer, or even a potential PS3 gamer, you have no excuse not to partake in one of the ultimate RPG’s of our lifetime. It is an experience you won’t soon forget and possibly one that might never end.

Sitting back and looking at what they have accomplished, there isn’t much I can say to fault this game. The good vastly overshadows what little bad there is. I must say though, it would have been awesome to get the chance to slay a dragon or any other gigantic, lizard-like, fire-breathing monster. Note to Bethesda - Please include more epic, giant-sized, screen-filling monsters in The Elder Scrolls V.

For those used to linear, Japanese-style role-playing games, Oblivion will seem like a revelation. All the games in this series have been known for their sheer vastness and freedom of choice, but the Elder Scrolls IV takes that concept and runs with it. This is a huge, gorgeous, and playable adventure that is sure to cause players to happily lose track of hours, days, and possibly weeks or months.

In regelmäßigen Abständen beglückt uns Bethesda Softworks mit neuen Ablegern ihrer Elder Scrolls Rollenspielreihe. Nach Arena (1993), Daggerfall (1996) und Morrowind (2002) ist dieses Jahr Oblivion an der Reihe. Maybe it was the time I saw those two male mages climb into bed together. Or when the Imperial guard chased me for twenty minutes across Cyrodil before I even realised he was there. Wearing rag-a-muffin clothes, with bones scattered across the floor and a bearded, toothless prisoner across the way taunting you with how he’ll look after your wife and daughter when he’s released, you’re stuck in cell and left to rot. A shocking and abrupt welcome to The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

Of all the games I have played in the last year, I would have to say that Oblivion is probably my favorite. With its immersive environment, stunningly beautiful graphics, nonlinear gameplay, and extremely customizable player experience, this game accomplishes more than I have expected in a game and is simply difficult to put down. Though it’s still early in the year, Oblivion will certainly be a strong contender for RPG of the year for 2006. If you enjoy computer RPGs (and maybe even if you just enjoy good games and don’t usually enjoy RPGs) and haven’t tried this one yet, I would highly recommend that you pick it up and give it a spin.

There is simply SO much to do here that it’s difficult to put it all down into words without going on for pages and pages, or spoiling magic moments. Explore dungeons and search for treasure, join a guild and work your way up through the ranks. Assist the heir to the throne and take down the Oblivion gates to become a hero, search out the fabled vampires of the forests, enter into the arena of the capital city and become a champion, take up the challenge of becoming a skilled thief with a huge bounty on your head and massive riches to your name. Seek out mythical Elvin ruins and uncover their dark secrets, hunt deer for meat in the forest, or simply spend time picking all manner of herbs in and around the world to create powerful potions - truly becoming a supreme alchemist. The list really does go on and on here. Oblivion starts out as a game, but evolves into something much more. It becomes your very own customized personal adventure.

Oblivion is a game that will appeal to both action gamers and RPG fans, and make both groups quite happy to spend a lot of time with the game. It’s one of those rare games that is more of an experience than just a game and you’ll love being long for the ride.

As great as Morrowind was (and it was difficult to imagine better), Oblivion is a game that does everything ten times better. It also makes playing any other game out there seem trivial. Oblivion is not just a game, it’s an experience. And where most games feature a good first level or a cool end-boss, Oblivion’s strength lies in its scope and its consistency. There has never been a game created that was so detailed or so realistic and it gives me such hope in the videogame industry when I play a title made with such integrity and care. Oblivion is without question the greatest video game I have ever played or reviewed and it’s also an experience unlike any I have ever had. The best part however, is knowing that Bethesda will eventually, much like Morrowind, make it even better.

In the end, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a great choice for Xbox 360 gamers. There are some minor issues that will hamper the gameplay slightly but don't let that push you away that much. The game doesn't really invent anything new for the genre but the important thing is that it's a great experience and worth playing. The game does at least show that next-gen games are looking promising.

Oblivion not only raises the bar in the visual and audio modules but also in the gameplay and presentation department, making it easily one of the most recommendable titles to anyone who has ever enjoyed the thought of truly doing whatever they want in a video game, in a world where actions actually mean something. Besides, admit it – you've always wanted to throw down and get into a boxing match with a barnyard animal. Just be sure to block and parry their horns and punch when there's an opening; those horns can be pointy to the unarmored adventurer.

There are some games that are tough to rate because they may do very limited things very well, or do a lot of things rather well. Oblivion does a lot of things extremely well, and everything else very well. It’s hard to find anything to complain about here. The main quest, side quests, townspeople, graphics, open-endedness, etc combine to make one of the best videogames available on any console. The game lets you do whatever you want, since a reload is only a few button clicks away. And that freedom is something very few games can actually deliver.

Xbox 360Mygamer.com
All of the above mentioned properties allows me come to this conclusion – Oblivion is a game that does so much to draw the player into its world, that it’s far more addictive than the vast majority of MMORPGs out there. Many MMORPGs promise to create a world that once you enter, you may want to leave the real world behind; Oblivion brilliantly succeeds in such a promise, and it’s not even an online game. This is proof positive that an RPG doesn’t need monthly fees to be good. However, for being such a great game, Oblivion lends itself to addiction, so only play it if you truly have the time to spare. Be sure not to forget about your real life once you get your hands on this game – you have been warned.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion sets a new standard in RPGs. There isn't a lot of difference between the PC and 360 version. Just make sure your PC is loaded or you won't enjoy the same crisp, graphic resolution. There is so much to do in this game and the interactivity of the AI makes it seem like a massive online multi-player experience. Expect months of fun and adventure.

Not only that, it's an incredible conversion from Xbox 360 and is far from the inferior ports you get from some other companies. Oblivion requires a substantial time investment to get the most out of the game, but yet it's designed where you can play an hour or 2 at a time and make progress through whatever you're working on, whether it's a story quest, a Fighters Guild adventure, a generic fetch quest, gathering seeds and flowers for alchemical purposes...even sitting around in your house and wishing electricity was invented so you could watch Tamriel TV. Oblivion really does offer the ability to see anything, do anything you want...or do nothing at all if that's what you'd prefer. Instead of wondering what you can do in this world, the question is always, what can't you do? And Oblivion does it better than any other game in its genre.

I’m very happy that these guys have made tons of dough off of Oblivion, because I still haven’t handed that Amulet over, and I already can‘t wait to see what the series has in store next. It’s become so rare to see a studio with a real hit franchise on their hands that doesn’t just sit down and milk it as a cash cow. These guys have a bigger stake though, because in many ways, they’re now bearing the burden of moving an entire genre forward.

Oblivion is one of the best packages of the past several years, with no element even average; everything is as close to perfect as can be expected, and even a few odd bits here and there can be dealt with well enough. If you haven't played a PC-based RPG, you might not know what you're missing. Traditionally these games are huge and full of details - from the storyline to the graphics. Console RPGs have to be a lot more restricted due to processing limitations but with the Xbox 360, that's all in the past. This Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion version surpasses many PC-based RPGs and blows away virtually ever console version of the genre.

Like Morrowind, 90% of Oblivion is based on how much you put into it. If approached as a story-driven RPG, you'll still find an enjoyable experience, though you won't even begin to see everything it has to offer. If taken as a broader experience, you can easily find yourself immersed in the game for a long, long time.

If you loved Morrowind, you will probably want to have Oblivion’s babies! If you thought Morrowind had a few problems, Bethesda has fixed many of the big complaints they got from fans of the series (partially some of the clunkiness of the fighting system). There is nothing else quite like this on store shelves right now (and there probably won’t be till Elder Scrolls V).Oblivion is the best game available to play on your Xbox360 and will remain so until long after the day the console goes out of production. Roleplaying games are fairly popular on consoles, the PS2 for instance is stuffed to the brim with various RPGs, while the Xbox and Gamecube have their fair share. But these RPGs are usually fairly small, have a definite linear story and don’t really allow for much freedom of choice.

I have waited quite a long time for Oblivion, and I knew it was going to be good, but when I first stepped out of the sewer in the beginning of my journey, it only then began to seep in. I turned, and began walking across a bridge, turned to my right and saw majestic mountains, sparkling water reflecting photo-realistic vegetation, and a beautiful sunset, that you would have sworn was real. I then realized that I could travel to the top of those mountains, which seemed to be dozens of miles in the distance. Then finally realized the game that I had dreamt of for years had finally arrived.

All of this being said, it’s enough to note that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is not just the best 360 game yet, but one of the best games you can buy right now or have been able to buy in quite some time. This is a game that falls in lines of quality with titles like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII, or even the original Super Mario Bros. for that matter. Oblivion is a first-rate game that will define this generation's RPGs for some time to come. The standard has been set, and it’s been set ridiculously high. Whether it’s the fantastic production values or its nearly flawless gameplay mechanics, we couldn’t be happier with Oblivion. It’s a game that is well worth the purchase of an Xbox 360 or the upgrades needed for your PC. The only people who are at loss here are the people who don’t get to play this masterpiece.

If you own an Xbox 360, and the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is not in your collection yet, immediately stop reading and run to your nearest retailer and pick this one up. Its gameplay, graphics, and auditory value are all off the chain. In addition, its replayability will provide hundreds of hours of wholesome fun. My only personal complaint is this: due to the immense worlds, obscene amounts of terrain, and overall hugeness of this software, I found myself becoming nauseated and oftentimes lightheaded and dizzy. You’ve been warned.

Overall, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a much needed RPG for the new PlayStation 3 library. Although the game is essentially a direct port of the Xbox 360 and PC version released a year ago, it is still a port of a game that won RPG of the Year and Game of the Year almost uncontested. If you already own the game for Xbox 360 or PC, you probably won't need to pick this up. You can download the Knights of the Nine and have essentially the same package. However, if you haven't played Oblivion yet, you'll definitely want to get a copy of Oblivion as soon as possible.

The only complaint I have with Bethesda's masterpiece is that I've lost hours of life that could have been spent elsewhere, but that's not a bad thing. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is an early candidate for Game of the Year, and I for one think it'll make that mark. It's the perfect RPG, filled with hundreds of quests, leveling-up, an interesting and exciting battle system, beautiful graphics, and a fantastic soundtrack. Xbox 360 owners have really been treated in the last two months, with releases like Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Fight Night Round 3, and now this monster. Downloadable extras in the future are the only thing that would make this game better (hint hint, Bethesda) and until then, I'll continue to ignore life's essentials for the life I live in Tamriel.

It's very easy to become jaded as a gamer when you play as many games as I do. Between game reviewing and playing other games that I want to play that I don't review, I probably go through about 50-60 games a year, about a game a week. It's rare that a game will grab me or surprise me with a hugely dramatic moment, it's more like "Oh, so my boss turned out to be the bad guy".. Like that's never happened before.

This is a rare and remarkable achievement--a huge, open-ended, complex, detailed role-playing game that's fun to play and a pleasure to behold. Oblivion not only delivers everything that earned the Elder Scrolls series the devoted loyalty of a huge following of fans, but also significantly improves on the weaknesses of its 2002 predecessor, Morrowind. Morrowind earned recognition for being one of the best role-playing games in years, but the immersive and long-lasting experience it provided wasn't for everyone. Oblivion is hands-down better, so much so that even those who'd normally have no interest in a role-playing game should find it hard to resist getting swept up in this big, beautiful, meticulously crafted world.

But I won’t let that take away from the overall grand experience this game provides. I can definitely see myself coming back to this game every week or two for another year or so. I keep discovering something new every time I play and that feeling of not seeing the whole thing is killing me.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion takes everything that was great about its predecessors and improves upon it while delivering its own brand of RPG style and substance on a new console with all the power and beauty you would expect. Although it may be a bit early in the console’s life cycle to be absolutely sure, it’s a safe bet to say that Oblivion will go down as one of the Xbox 360’s finest RPGs, and perhaps one of it’s finest games overall.

This game is not Morrowind with nice graphics, it is so much more than that. In addition, there is an option for download content which has already been confirmed, which means that there will be additional quests to undertake, so you can add more gaming hours to the initial 200. There is no one thing that makes Oblivion such a joy to pick up and play, it’s lots of things that blend well together to make a unique and immersive gaming experience. Oblivion just oozes atmosphere, and you can’t help but be drawn into the world of Tamriel like a diabetic fly into a giant pot of strawberry jam. The latest version of Elder Scrolls further redefines the very nature of the RPG genre, making it less about stat calculations, and more about the overall gaming experience. This will mean that a lot of gamers are going to up residence in Tamriel. Oh well, there goes the neighbourhood!

What is the bottom line here? This game will sell systems. It will please die-hard fans of the series to no end. It is better than all existing 360 games, at the time of writing, save for Geometry Wars. It has been made more accessible so that anyone can take a stab at it. It isn’t perfect; it doesn’t do anything revolutionary in the world of gaming, but if you have a 360 or an up-to-date barge, go purchase this game. If you’re a fan of adventure, action, RPG’s, or even just great games in general, Oblivion is great fun and certainly worth a shot.

Oblivion tends to suck you in and more often than not, time in the real world seems to pass unnoticed. If you’re a casual gamer then yes Oblivion might be a little overwhelming at first and perhaps you might not wish to get into the deeper aspects of the game. However I think any gamer worth his or her salt will truly appreciate the love and effort that has been put into the game. RPG fans looking for a true next generation experience can rejoice as Oblivion certainly fills the void that has been present since the launch of the Xbox 360. I think the safest thing to say is for casual players to rent the game first and spend several hours getting to grips with how things play out and if you like then buy. For RPG fans then this is definitely a must buy as games of this scale and quality don’t come around too often.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the best of 2006 and is likely the best game released in the last decade. The game isn't without flaws, but they are so minor they lose themselves within the sixteen square miles of Cyrodiil and right into the gates of Oblivion. You'd be sinning not to give this game a chance. Come, enter the gates of Oblivion.

There is no doubt in my mind that The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is the best title on the 360, and that it is the most groundbreaking title in its genre to come down the pipe in a while. With its enormous amount of quests, the beautifully expansive environment, and a degree of subtlety that most games don’t even dream of, Bethesda has created a gaming masterpiece that will be hard to knock off come Game of the Year voting. But hey, why are you still reading this? If you already have the game, get back to it. If you don’t, go get it. Right now, I’ve gotta go. Those Oblivion gates aren’t gonna close themselves.

The technological shortcoming (most notably, the issues with framerate and abundant loading times) are an annoyance, but don’t bog things down to an unplayable state. With a world this big, the amount of choices and the sheer number of items to interact with, we can live with some slowdown here and there. So, as the biggest release of 2006 thus far, is it a potential Game of the Year candidate? Absolutely. For the time being, however, Oblivion will have to settle as being the quintessential RPG for the Xbox 360.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is another fantastic step forward in Bethesda's evolution of the RPG. This game provides you a beautiful world with a rich history to immerse yourself into. There is never a shortage of things to do and every task can be carried out at your own pace. Although there are some graphical issues, it's still beautiful to look at and a good example of what the 360 is capable of. If you're a casual RPG player, you may or may not be intimidated by what Oblivion is capable of, but I promise you it's worth it. It's arguably the best 360 game out there and the most addicting RPG experience outside of an MMO. Bethesda undoubtedly has more awards and accolades heading their way this year.

From a graphical standpoint, the game is impressive and very realistic looking. It could pass as the most realistic forest simulator that runs well at this time. Oblivion makes full use of the HDR lighting effects, but only if you have a system powerful enough that can process it. The game has a full night-day system, and an incredibly detailed weather structures. It’s so vivid that you can feel every group of leaves sways left and right according to the wind while it's raining.. Not trailing behind the graphics is the audio. Oblivion supports surround sound systems, and adjusts accordingly. The sound effects are nicely depicted, and the voiceover work is lifelike and not boring like so many other titles of this type. The music is well scored and is done by Jeremy Soule of Guild Wars and Dungeon Siege II fame. Oblivion is a gem, despite its overlookable flaws. It’s a game shooter and RPG fans alike will fall in love with.

The PlayStation 3 version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is every bit as impressive as the Xbox 360 and PC versions. However, this isn't necessarily the best version of the game. This version does come with the Knights of the Nine add-on, which will add about 10 hours of gameplay to the already lengthy game, but it doesn't come with any of the other downloadable additions made available on the Xbox 360. In terms of extras, the PC trumps both other versions because of a wealth of free player-created content. Even with a relatively modest amount of added content, the PlayStation 3 version of Oblvion packs well over 100 hours of adventuring to keep you entertained for months to come. Ultimately, the version you decide to purchase comes down to a matter of preference, but one way or another, you should definitely play this game.

In short, when taking its beauty, length, and replay value into consideration, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is probably the best game on PS3 right now, whose impact is lessened only by the fact that it’s a port of a year-old game. Should the downloadable content available elsewhere eventually find its way to the PS Store in the coming months, it’s poised to only get better.

In the end, Oblivion is a game that continues the open road formatof the generations before it. While some may argue that it is just arehashed Morrowind, is that such a bad thing? It is rare that gamesthis open, this customizable, this pretty, and this down right fun comealong. The last RPG to snag me with such sharp claws was KingdomHearts, so I am glad for this game to come along. While it may only be about a fourth as long as Morrowind at 25 orso hours, some may complain. But when you see how nice this game is,you can see why they didn’t have time to put in another 75 hours ofstory.

Overall, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one game that should not be missed. It,s one of the most enjoyable games I,ve played in years. Although it may have a few minor flaws and annoyances, none of these are truly game breaking or ruin the whole experience. There are a lot of great details in the game, such as the lock picking and speech craft mini-games. The latter of which is used to raise the disposition level of how much a NPC likes you, enabling you to get more information out of them. Oblivion offers up an overwhelming amount of content, coupled with one of the largest and most realistic environments ever seen in a RPG. Furthermore, if you,re not a fan of RPGs, that certainly shouldn,t keep you away from this game. At its core it is a true RPG, but the game allows you to play with a wide range of styles, including stealth or pure action, which should appeal to a lot of FPS fans. In any case, Oblivion is a lot of bang for your buck, and it comes highly recommended.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is an epic game that deserves all the praise it has received since its release last year. Sure, the PS3 gets ambushed from the shadows on the downloadable content, but its recovering and still has a lot of fight left. Oblivion raises the bar so high that most RPGs would be (and have been) satisfied with a fraction of what’s here. After 44 hours with Oblivion, what higher compliment can we pay it than to say we can’t wait to play it again, create a new character with an entirely different skill set, and visit every nook and cranny there is to see in Tamriel? So take heed when staring at Oblivion on a store shelf: Your $60 will go farther than it ever has, but prepare to get hooked for the long haul.

Ultimately, the PS3 version of Oblivion sits in an odd position: It's better than its predecessors in some negligible ways, and worse in others. It currently lacks the ability to add expansions via download...but it's a feature that's expected to arrive (via a patch, presumably) in the not-too-distant future. Where it counts, it's almost identical to the 360 version...but it includes an expansion 360 owners must pay an extra $10 for. Ignore the existence of any other version of Oblivion and this is an easy 10. The fundamental game is just so epic, the world so vast, the options so varied, that you'll find more quality gameplay shoehorned into this disc than just about any other game I can think of.

It’s a game that will appeal to a lot of people (to varying degrees), although admittedly not to everyone, and no two experiences will be the same for different people. Yet, in terms of overall scope and ambition, the above quibbles are little more than extremely forgivable moments of distraction in an otherwise superior gaming package. Yes, Oblivion walks the same beaten path pounded flat by so many other RPGs before it; yet its contributing elements - of which only the Radiant A.I. emerges as innovative - should not be analysed or appreciated singularly in terms of arbitrary pluses and minuses. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion excels in almost every department but emerges as absolutely more than the sum of its parts. When viewed as a complete creation, the RPG genre can offer little else to compare; the console market has never known such deeply involving and open-ended imagination; and there's certainly nothing on the Xbox 360 that better deserves the 'killer app' motif to-date.

To truly expand on everything Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion would be to write a massive tome of information. Want proof? Check out how massive Prima’s strategy guide is. The game is just too big to elaborate on in its entirety, and this is a game that really has to be experienced, not just read about. Want to know what to expect? You can expect a massive game that is very open. There is a main story, but you are not forced or coerced in any way to complete it. The combat you encounter is fun and fresh and there is a wealth of enemies you will stumble upon. The citys and towns are lively and there is always something to see, someone to help, or a quest to complete. You can even purchase a house in the city if you wanted to always have a home to return to. The graphics are amazing, but you will definitely notice some slowdown. The draw distance isn’t spectacular, but the details and textures up close and personal are excellent.

How much free time do you have? It's a legitimate question if you're considering Bethesda's epic The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, as it's likely to engulf whatever tidbits of unoccupied hours permeate your life. It might even start chipping away your daily responsibilities. With over 200 hours of gameplay, Oblivion's depth is nothing short of staggering. However, depth means nothing if it's paired with crippling bugs or frustrating gameplay. Though Oblivion has a few issues, it thankfully avoids any major blunders, making this the best single player role playing experience to come along in years.

The sheer size of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is overwhelming; to the point that I could continue this review on over several more pages. Alas, Im sure you have better things to do than continue reading about a game that you could instead be playing, which is something that I recommend you do wholeheartedly. Oblivion is, quite simply, a massively enjoyable, unique and varied experience that will please almost every RPG and adventure fan, whether it be the wealth of different quests to participate in, the different people that you meet or the ability to explore hundreds of square miles of interesting wilderness and townships. The Elder Scrolls series has certainly established itself firmly within the RPG genre, with the latest offering further heightening the series glory. Oblivion is one of the best looking, best sounding and more enjoyable games on the Xbox 360, if only you can forgive the sometimes unintelligent AI.

While the PS3 version of Oblivion is superior to the 360 one, the PC still reigns supreme due to the customization possible. If you want the best-looking version of Oblivion and don't have an amazing PC, then the PS3 is easily the route to go. However, if you already own the 360 version and were thinking of trading it in for this, there's really no need to. The PS3 version may look and run slightly better, and it may include Knights of the Nine from the get-go, but the status of the expansion is something you have to consider, and the fact that there's really nothing new should convince you to stick with what you have. As long as you have Oblivion on any of the available platforms, you're already good to go with hundreds of hours of possible gaming excellence. Then again, if you really wanted to justify your purchase of the PS3, you may want to pick this up.

To conclude there is really only one thing to do with Oblivion and that’s buy it. I am not a huge fan of role playing games and didn’t like Morrowind, but I absolutely love Oblivion. No other game gives you such freedom and in such vast landscapes. Oblivion is brilliant value as you could quite easily get 100+ hours out of this game. Worth every penny.

Over the past year, you've probably already heard how great The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is from PC and Xbox 360 owners, and it maintains that same pedigree on PlayStation 3. There's no doubt that it stands alongside Resistance as the system's crème de la crème even if it does have its own share of bugs and a lack of downloadable content found elsewhere. A must buy for fans of fun games -- no RPG bias required.

So far in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, I've murdered a man by fixing a stuffed minotaur head trophy cave in his skull; woke up to find the ship I was sleeping on had been hijacked; stalked innocent people for a paranoiac who ultimately tried to kill me; cured an entire village of mass invisibility; broke up a gang of female thieves; served time for grand larceny; and persuaded a group of partygoers to murder each other. Oh, and I became a vampire. I did all of this in 40-plus hours of playing the game--and not a second of it has to do with the game's "official" plot. I'll get around to that eventually...maybe after another 40 hours.

A successful open-ended first person RPG has to be the harmonious sum of a gigantic living-breathing environment filled with interesting locations and NPCs, a truly epic story, pleasing game mechanics, varied quests / side quests, and at last but not least, great visuals. Oblivion excels in all of these areas - in fact, I would say that it is the best role-playing game I have played in many years, and it is difficult not to be in love with such a game. Despite it's minor shortcomings Oblivion delivers on so many levels that it truly raised the bar for all titles. Overall you get an engaging, addictive experience, that can last hundreds of hours depending on how much of Cyrodiil you wish to explore. If you have the hardware to run this game well enough, then this is an absolute must-have.

When it was first announced that the price tag for next-gen games would jump to $60, we wondered what sort of games could be worth that type of investment, and the answer is right here. With 100 or 200 hours of quality entertainment on one DVD and so many different ways to play, Oblivion is actually a value proposition. So if you put can put away Suikoden or Grandia or Final Fantasy for a while, you'll appreciate anew the freedom of choice that is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The number of options is so vast, it's nearly paralyzing figuring out what it is you want to do next. However, what you definitely want to do first is pick up a copy. Don't worry, you can still have spiky hair if you want to.

Overall, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is easily one of the best reasons to currently own a 360. The game will provide you with more content than you can possibly handle, and is one of the few games on the market today that?s actually worth the full $60 price tag. Was man erwartet, bekommt man auch.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is truly an RPG masterpiece and the PlayStation 3 version doesn't change that. Gamers who haven't tried Oblivion thusfar can safely pick the game up, knowing they'll experience one of the best games of the last couple of years. Compared to the X360 game, this version currently lacks downloadable bonus content (which will probably be resolved when the Shivering Isles expansion gets released), but has improved graphics, a better framerate and shorter loading times. Still, if you have the PC to run it, you might want to opt for that game, since it supports the hundreds of free high-quality mods.

If you tried Morrowind and hated it, you're likely to have similar feelings about this game. The basic interface has many of the same features, though some things have been improved. If you love fast paced RPG games, like Diablo or Sacred, you'll find Oblivion to be quite slow paced. There are fewer opponents at a time and a low respawn rate. If you want a game with a large number of things to do, many quests, locations and something that feels very realistic; you must try Oblivion. Highly recommended for experienced RPG players. If you are new to this type of game, get the Official Game Guide otherwise the game might overwhelm you.

The lighting effects are gorgeous. You’ll want to stop to observe the orange, gold and fuchsia clouds passing over a valley at sunset. Every area is strewn with loot that you can examine and take. There are thousands of opportunities to steal as well. Generally loot that you can acquire legally or quasi-legally is everywhere. Your items can be combined, upgraded repaired and sold, all in a well tuned RPG fashioned. Ultimately, however, all of these niggles and minor irritations are exactly that. Oblivion is a fine dungeon romp that, if you don't mind it getting a little repetitive later on and concentrating on figures and finery than an overly thought-provoking plotline, will stand you in good stead for weeks and months to come. It's absolutely stunning to watch, massively extensible, and really very engrossing. Even if you never complete it, a fair possibility given the sheer size of the thing, it is effortlessly easy to at least extract your money's worth. Do yourself a favor, if you haven't gotten a hold of this and you're at all into PC RPGing, it's a necessity buy.

Dringend!

There’s a lot I could still touch on in this review, but it’s already getting long. Oblivion is large enough in scope, that you could easily write a book about the game. There are so many ways to play the game, so many places to visit, so many ways to accomplish a quest with combat, that it can be overwhelming sometimes. It’s not often in my gaming life that I’d be overwhelmed by a game, but when it happens, it’s a sign of a great game. A mistake would be to play the game, thinking you’re going to scour the whole land, do all the quests, and see everything all at once. That will just drive you crazy if you try to do that right out the gate.

There is an amazing value in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It has reasonable potential to last over two hundred hours, and with Bethesda periodically releasing expansions over Xbox Live it might be the only game Xbox 360 owners play for a very long time. Oblivion has the tendency to take several hours away from the players life at a time ,like any given MMORPG would. The main quest can be completed in about twenty hours, but that's not the reason to play. There is so much depth to the game; it's like having a second life. With incredible graphics, a humongous world to explore, rich character customization and gameplay, and amazing replay value, it is good candidate for RPG and Game of the Year. There's very little reason for any Xbox 360-owning RPGamer not to own this title.

Fans of Japanese RPGs may find Oblivion to be too foreign. It's played in a first and third person perspective, there aren't many compelling characters, and you have no party of followers. But those who would enjoy creating your own characters and playing through a vast and expansive world the way you want to cannot miss Oblivion. From creating your character, to going through all the factions, to saving the world from the menacing hordes from Oblivion, you will almost never run out of things to do. Oblivion is the best RPG of its kind and my favorite game on the Xbox 360 so far.

Overall the game is very good. With some of the deepest gameplay, character detail and it's seemingly endless variety of missions and adventures, Oblivion is without a doubt one of the deepest RPG titles to date. With any luck, Bethesda will be able to correct the framerate problems and move their rank from very good to great. RPG fans should seriously consider adding this title to their collections since most will be able to get past this games shortcomings and manage to unearth the treasure beneath. And for those folks who have never tried an RPG but have always been curious, this wouldn't be a bad choice to start with since you can certainly just pick up and play this title and still get a very good experience without having to worry about all of the details right away.

After spending sixty hours in Tamriel, I'm continually surprised to find new areas to explore and new quests to complete. The vast enormity of the game is Oblivion's greatest strength and a bit of a weakness. If it wasn't for the graphical stuttering and the load lock-ups, this would truly be the perfect game. In many ways, Oblivion seemed less like an RPG and more like an action game or a stealth title. I could easily recommend this title to people who dislike RPG games and I'd wager they would fall in love with Oblivion. Even at full price, Oblivion is a definite purchase for every Xbox 360 owner. Heck, they could have charged $100 for a game with this kind of replay-ability.

Overall, these are relatively minor faults; the only thing holding ES IV: Oblivion back from a perfect score is its disappointing tendency to freeze without warning. On the whole Oblivion is excellent. Really excellent, actually, and arguably the strongest contender for game of the year yet. It’s possibly the most accessible RPG ever made, with a limitless scope for character creation and the fantastic ‘do what you want, when you want’ gameplay. It’s also really freakin’ huge, with a massive world to explore, a great central plotline and an endless number of side quests to conquer – it’s completely pointless to try and put an hourly figure on it. The flaws – frame rate issues, loading times, a somewhat empty world and a subjective world leveling system – are really miniscule in comparison to the magnificent journey the game offers. Everyone with an Xbox 360 or capable PC should already own a copy of this most excellent game – if you don’t, ring up work and ask for a month off, then rush down to your closest store and grab it right now. Oblivion – it’s here, it’s brilliant, and it will take over your life.

Oblivion isn't perfect. As big as the world is, there are set pieces that are recycled near-ad nauseum, the music can cut in and out abruptly, the... um... look, it doesn't matter. This is as good as Western RPGs get on consoles, plain and simple. The fact that most PlayStation gamers haven't had a good WRPG in... well, ever, shouldn't detract from the fact that even a year after the original release, Oblivion is every bit as addictive and expansive as any game you'll drop $60. Is the PlayStation 3 version worth getting if you already own the game for the PC or Xbox 360? Sadly, no. The PS3 version only includes Knights of the Nine with nothing in terms of downloadable content or the Shivering Isles expansion. Therefore your experience is more complete with the original release from a year ago. That being said if you own a PS3 and don't have the ability to play the game on other platforms then buying this is an absolutely must. Much like that infamous Japanese MMORPG, Oblivion promises total freedom of character generation but fails to deliver that perfectly. In particular, some combinations of race and class abilities just aren't as good as others -- and if you try to play a straight thief, archer, fighter, or mage, you're going to have a hard game. Be prepared to be a jack-of-all-trades, or be very frustrated.

The PS3 version does contain a bit of extra content. It features the Knights of the Nine faction expansion, but all of the other expansion content is absent. Sorry, no horse armor here. It's hard to ignore the fact that while all your friends are visiting the madness in Shivering Isles, your Johnny-come-lately self is still in slamming shut those fiery gates. The inclusion of all the additional content would have helped make up for the yearlong wait for this title.

You would think that in a game this big that the developers would cut corners, but Bethesda shows why the Elder Scrolls series is so popular and why they are great game makers. With great graphics, great sound and great gameplay, only a few annoyances manages to keep it from being legendary. If you’ve played this on the Xbox 360 or PC there is no reason to play it again, however should you have not had the chance for either, you really can’t go wrong with Oblivion as it caters to any level of RPG gamer.

Oblivion is a beautiful thing and although the combat may be slightly wayward and you can often come across a lot of very obvious pop-up while walking around, it’s unlikely this will spoil your experience. It manages to raise the normally stagnant RPG genre into the upper echelons of gaming and it’s unlikely we’ll play something as staggering, open-ended and entertaining as this in a long time.

The Elder Scrolls IV is a fine addition to the series and is frankly awesome in many ways, it's the sort of game that will even hook people in who normally hate rpg's, in fact it was the previous title (Morrowind) that got me into rpg's in the first place. Oblivion offers superb value for money, well over 50 hours to find all of the side quests and complete them. However, Oblivion isn't without some nasty bugs, it's crashed on me more than once which can be can be very annoying. Despite this I would recommend anyone and everyone to go out and buy Oblivion today because it is just so damn addictive, incredibly deep and detailed. Just try to be sure your computer can handle this powerhouse of a graphics engine.

Endlich!

When it comes to computer role playing games, there are either solo games like this, or big online games. Often the worst part about online games is the presence of the other people, but Oblivion gives that online game feel, without the nagging sensation that the dungeon you’re about to explore has been trampled by thousands of previous adventurers.

Anyone interested in an open-ended medieval adventure where every action has realistic consequences should give The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion a try. Just make sure not to become too absorbed in this title or you may have to begin a real life quest to reclaim your friends and family.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a game of minutiae. It builds a foundation of the little things, which are done so well that they grow into big things. All of the unbelievable claims regarding the A.I., quality of presentation, technical power, and scale are delivered in full.

Besondere Spiele brauchen besondere Zuwendung.

In conclusion, Oblivion is a rather solid game, worthy of attention of anyone wishing for a light-hearted adventure with an entire world to immerse oneself in. The combat system is frustrating, but that is secondary. Oblivion’s real strength lies in the total freedom of action it provides. Despite the game’s numerous flaws, it is easy to become engrossed in the world and it’s atmosphere. However, don’t expect a very deep game or one that will continuously pull you back for another round.

Basically, Oblivion is one of the most impressive games to come by in a while. I've been neglecting my work to play it for about 40 hours, and have not even come close to running out of things to do. It is, essentially, a huge time sink. If you allow it to, it will possess you completely. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys RPGs and has lots of free time on their hands. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some quests to take care of.

Other than the minor glitches and game freezes that one tends to expect from these massive open-world Western RPGs, it's hard to say too much negative about Oblivion other than how, a few years later, Bethesda released another Elder Scrolls game that I thought was better. Before playing Skyrim, I was too engrossed in this game's world to criticize the flawed leveling system or to get annoyed by the constant need to repair equipment. I had no interest in nitpicking at any number of minor flaws, real or perceived. While it's hard to not notice them now, though, it's more difficult still to ignore or belittle all the hours of good memories this game brought me…

It's debateable whether Oblivion is a great adventure, but it's certainly one of the broadest around and one that's a willing canvas for a variety of approaches from its players. It's best suited to those with an eye for the smallest of details, or else the dungeons, townhouses and fields seem identical to those just passing through. Played with care and tolerance - two major caveats - it's unbeatably absorbing, and once you enter into its mode of thought and grasp its logic, it's beautiful. If you don't, it seems bloated and silly. Ultimately, it's several confident steps closer to the self-contained RPG utopia that Bethesda outlined with Morrowind, but still hasn't reached it.

Despite the aforementioned issues (which are enough to give some pause), it's hard for me to resist recommending Oblivion to any RPG fan. Assuming one has a system with the muscle to run the game and the player is willing to accept some technical glitches, there simply isn't a better RPG experience available. After three iterations, the world-builders of Bethesda have come as close as anyone ever has to giving us a truly living, magical universe to play in.

While we've had to wait longer than most of the rest of the world for the console launch of the 360, we've enjoyed the benefit of having an improved launch lineup to enjoy with it, including titles like Fight Night Round 3 and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. They're both great games, and opinion may of course vary on this, but Oblivion arguably comes closest to being the 360's first true system-selling game. Now, if you'll excuse me, the guard's just wandered off into the darkness, and I've got some poison to deliver...

Oblivion is what you make of it. Journey across this land ignoring the tacked on main plot and you may enjoy it far more than someone who focuses on killing Foozle. There's so much to interact with and so many character types to try that you can spend hours just messing around with the game mechanics and character builds. Venture out into the wilderness looking for trouble and you can find so much of it that you might never get bored. The world is beautifulラthough the characters' faces aren'tラand the music serenades you through towns and valleys, across rivers and into the mountains. Countless moments will stick with you long after you finish playing. Just be prepared to shut off the immersion once in awhile because Oblivion will too often try to remind you it's just a game.

Oblivion is certainly an instant classic and its success can only mean good things for the future of RPG gaming, although the depth and detail of the world of Tamriel are let down somewhat by an overly simple combat and magic system. With several add-ons available and the first full retail expansion coming soon, this game is sure to be a favourite for years to come.

Although virtually every other genre has incorporated RPG elements, no other RPG has so thoroughly taken in the ideals of the sandbox genre as Oblivion. It gives you a massive playspace, a finely tuned (if sadly flawed) RPG engine to play in it with, and lots of other AI-driven people to play with. Turn it on to drop 30 hours of sleepless joy into at a shot, or fire it up and spend 20 minutes making the perfect spell for your next quest. There are very few games out there that will give as much to you as you put in, but this is one such game.

Oblivion is for the most part a lush looking game, with plenty of attention to detail, and it's detail that's not only good to look at, but relevant to the game. Alchemists in particular are well provided for, with mushrooms and exotic herbs growing wild under many trees, as well as the corpses of fallen enemies being good for potion ingredients. The fast travel option may seem enticing -- and there are reasons ranging from health to timing concerns where you'll use it a lot -- but to fully realise Oblivion's world, find all the dungeons, side quests and even just the relaxing bits where you sit by the side of a lake and take in the stars above -- you'll need to do some proper on-foot (or on-horse) exploring. It's a game that's naturally most shiny on a HD display, although it's still perfectly acceptable without such technology.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion contains what could be the most impressive digital landscape ever created. The game's geography and architecture is so impressive that using adjectives like "amazing" and "incredible" to describe how the game looks doesn't come across as hyperbole. There's an ambitious fantasy-RPG here as well, one with nearly untold hours of potential gameplay, albeit one where the overall experience isn't always as impressive as the remarkable physical world that contains it.

Overall, Oblivion is a good game, but not a great game. It can only loosely be considered an RPG, but it provides enough fun and replay value to keep you playing despite its flaws. Leveled loot can be discouraging, and leveled enemies can be boring, but the quests are fun. It’s really hard to say a con without a pro or vice-versa. I suppose the best way to sum up Oblivion is that it gives you a lot of game to play, it is very fun, but don’t expect any sort of story or any depth to the combat or exploration elements.

This Dungeons & Dragons-style RPG—thou dost dareth to maketh meade pharrts at the King's ye olde roundtable! Prepare to die, Lord Dingus!—gets ported to the PS3. Once again, you build your character from scratch (we made a porn star-ninja!) then take him/her on a quest that could potentially last a hundred hours or more. You'll find all kinds of creatures to fight, most of which are about as hideous as the girls left in a Daytona Beach bar at closing time.

WindowsChrist Centered Game Reviews
This game is rated Teen and I don’t know why it was not awarded a Mature rating. There’s violence (-4), and blood (but it can be disabled +1) when you’re slashing things with a weapon. There’s swearing (-5) and blaspheming (-5) too. There are nine gods in this world so I’m not sure if they’re blaspheming their gods or our God. There are sexual references as in live in couples (-3) and there’s an NPC who asks you about a fine for necrophilia. Magic is used heavily (-5), it’s optional to use it but it will be used on you regardless. On a positive note the Mages guild (for the most part) is against necromancy. With the different races there is prejudice in this game and many of the races hate each other (-1.5). Some characters tend to sleep in their underwear, I have noticed this with female characters. (-3.5) Finally, I was happy to see no occult symbols in this game but there is an occult type religion/worship.
