When someone uses the term RPG, it can be difficult to know exactly what kind of role-playing game they are referring to. You've got your real time RPGs, your MMORPGs, and of course turn-based RPGs. I enjoy all three types to one degree or another, but I happened to grow up playing the turn-based type. Sure I played Legend of Zelda on the NES and all the versions that followed, but it was Squaresoft that really drew me like a moth to the flame.

This game is better than most of the reviews it's received thus far. The game has been ripped to shreds by critics for being talky and going too slowly. Frankly, these critics didn't give the game a chance to spread its wings. For $20 it's a great buy and will easily deliver entertainment more than proportional to its price. Give it a chance! Sidenote: Enchanted Arms features one of the most horrible stereotypically gay characters...the voice acting is painful.

While Enchanted Arms isn't the most pretty or original game you'll come across, it's still executed reasonably well. For all its faults, the game is still a ton of fun, as every battle plays out a little differently. You will probably find yourself seeking out battles just to try out new attacks and strategies in the hopes of coming up with the perfect battle plan. Couple this with a nice variety of enemies, a well-paced story, and some fun side missions, and you've got a nice distraction until the next big title comes out. Now then, I have to go, there is a gang of saxophone playing transvestites gathered outside my window and I fear no good will come of this.

Enchanted Arms is an experience. One you should probably never have. I’m not even 100% sure it even qualifies as “so bad as good.” I think the writing’s hilarious, but I don’t know if that’s because it’s universally hilarious, or if it’s only hilarious to me because 1) I’m an editor, which means I have a finely tuned sense of what good writing should sound like, and 2) I have the worst taste ever in games. I’m giving this game a high score, but that’s based entirely on my experience with the game, and not necessarily the experience you would have with the game.

After a slow beginning, Enchanted Arms really pulls through and proves that Japanese RPGs can work on the 360, and that they will be warmly received by foreign markets. Driven by an incredibly complex, strategic and addictive battling system, the only thing stopping Enchanted Arms from being a runaway success is the design of the main characters, which unfortunately, is sorely lacking.

Enchanted Arms makes a solid start for traditional Japanese styled RPGs on the Xbox 360. Even though Enchanted Arms has some small problems, the basic idea is clear enough for me to recommend this game for strategy, adventure, and RPG fans. They have some great ideas which hopefully planted seeds to grow future editions of Enchanted Arms.

At the moment there is a real dearth of RPG’s on the Xbox 360 and the arrival of Enchanted Arms is highly appreciated. Whilst the game is enjoyable, it would be wrong to hail the game as a memorable RPG and I’m pretty sure in a few years time it won’t be regarded as one of the best RPG’s on the console. That said however, there’s a lot to like about Enchanted Arms. It’s quite humorous at times, you can save anywhere so the dreaded hunt for a save point doesn’t apply here, the battles are enjoyable and move at a quick enough pace and most of the characters are genuinely interesting. In fact it would certainly be interesting to see From Software do another RPG to see how they can build on what they have here. Xbox 360 owners looking for an enjoyable RPG certainly can’t go wrong with Enchanted Arms.

While Enchanted Arms doesn’t revolutionize the genre or offer much to differentiates itself from other Japanese RPG’s, it’s got everything that most fans would come to expect from this style of game. It delivered no more and no less than I expected it to, it was traditional and conventional role-playing from the very beginning. It’s an all around solid gameplay experience offers both unexceptional, but acceptable graphics and sounds.

Enchanted Arms is surprisingly not alone on the JRPG market either, as Phantasy Star Universe is releasing on next-gen hardware as well. There’s an obvious fascination with the JRPG here in the states, and it’s one area where Sony always had a huge leg up. Well the tides are changing, and Enchanted Arms is first out on the sea. Will Enchanted Arms encounter rough waters near the Western front, or is it smooth sailing in this land of hot dogs and crazed RPG fanatics? Let’s take a look-see…

The game has some flaws but in the end it’s but the first of the next-gen RPG’s, it isn’t trying to be anything but a typical Japanese RPG, it isn’t trying to break new ground and wow a new audience – it does what it does well enough and is a fun/enjoyable game when you get past the quirks. The level of detail in the graphics and the eye-candy from the world itself along with the plot are enough to keep you playing and with a big roster of unlockable characters and golems, each with their own individual style and moves, it should be a game that keeps you going for a good while.

Faithful Xbox and Xbox 360 owners have had to endure some hard times while waiting for quality RPGs to arrive. Sure, there have been some real gems, but the overall quantity of solid role-playing games hasn't quite kept up with the competition. With the release of Enchanted Arms, Xbox 360 owners now have access to the first next-gen traditional RPG. We're not looking at another Metal Dungeon either. Enchanted Arms is a game that does many things quite well and is definitely worth playing if you're one of those aching for that old-school RPG flavor that was missing from Oblivion. A few nagging annoyances keep Enchanted Arms from reaching the upper echelon of role-playing experiences, but they aren't enough to steer away anybody looking for some turn-based action.

Overall, Enchanted Arms is a well made game in terms of both gameplay and visual effects. While the overall freedom in the world in very limiting, the great character interactions and storyline make up for the deficiency. Like most true RPG’s, Enchanted Arms will take the average gamer over thirty hours to complete. While the length might be unattractive to some, the storyline is engaging enough to draw you in. If you are looking for a game with a lot of replay value, I suggest you look somewhere else. But if you are looking for a new RPG for the Xbox 360, it's worth checking out.

In the end, Enchanted Arms is a game that will aggravate anyone who doesn't go into it knowing all its problems. But for every negative issue, there is a great battle mechanic and collection system that more than makes up for it. The PS3 version is also the best way to experience the game since it features more golems to collect and a few extra seconds of cutscenes. The 360 version is greatly discounted at this time however and Enchanted Arms doesn't fill as great a void on the PS3 as it did on Microsoft's console. For those interested in a great Japanese RPG that will keep them busy for at least 30 hours (your time with the game will depend slightly on the grind-fest the last boss requires) should definitely give Enchanted Arms a try; it's a nice change of pace that should please those willing to invest time in its battle system.

PlayStation 3Extreme Gamer
The PS3 version of Enchanted Arms has a few bonuses over the Xbox 360, but in no way is it superior. Despite the unoriginal linear storyline Enchanted Arms provides a creative list of Golems to collect, interesting and strategic combat, along with all the rest of Japanese styled finesse you’d expect in a role playing game. It’s not worth a re-purchase, but Enchanted Arms is definitely worth a look if you enjoy Japanese role-playing games or turned based combat.

Enchanted Arms is the best Japanese RPG on the Xbox 360. Granted, it doesn’t have much competition at the moment, but the game is competent by its own merits as well, particularly its well-executed battle system. The game certainly has flaws, but nothing so serious that fans of the genre will be unable to overlook them and enjoy the positive elements that the game has to offer. That said, Enchanted Arms doesn’t to enough, well enough to stand a strong chance of making new fans out of gamers that have little interest in the Japanese RPG genre.

As usual, it has been difficult find a solid RPG worth playing during the first year of the next generation. For now, it appears to begin and end with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, even though plenty of promising entries in the genre are on the way. But PS3 owners do have a decent option in Enchanted Arms, a game released for the Xbox 360 last year and recently ported to Sony's new console. While there really isn't anything all that original here, and despite a decided lack of "next-gen" elements, the game manages to remain both appealing and entertaining for fans of traditional RPGs. The only real question is, does it interest to you? Well, read on to find out, and bear in mind that this title offers at least 40 hours of gameplay, but will also cost you the full $60 price tag.

Xbox 360GameSpot
Enchanted Arms is the first Japanese role-playing game for the Xbox 360, and while it isn't overly impressive or memorable, it's a capable representative for games of its type. The game sticks closely to the console role-playing template made popular by the Final Fantasy series, to the point that even the victory music that plays after each battle sounds eerily familiar. Androgynous characters, melodramatic plotlines, random encounters, and ridiculously overblown battles form the basis of Enchanted Arms, and if you have any previous experience with this type of game, you'll feel like you've seen it all before. Despite that, if you give it plenty of time, you'll find that Enchanted Arms is still worth playing if you have any interest in role-playing games.

Enchanted Arms is still strong enough to carry itself for the full length. RPG starved 360 gamers will enjoy this excursion until something else comes along to suit their needs. Its annoyances can be frequent, but this is a worthy ride with a superbly designed battle system that needs to be experienced.

Enchanted Arms is a decent RPG that – while filled with repetition and scavenger hunt annoyances – has reached a higher level of quality than any other first-gen RPG released for PSone, PS2, GameCube, or the original Xbox. (First-gen are the games released within the first 6-8 months of a console’s release.) Its flaws prevent it from being recommended as a purchase, but anyone who enjoys RPGs is encouraged to play it. The game is just as strange and flashy as it looks – but among that weirdness is a game that’s pretty darn fun.

Up until recently, there was a noticeable gap in the Xbox 360 product library just waiting to be filled by a console-style role-playing game. A certain type of gamer out there hungers for turn-based battles, gorgeous worlds to explore, and to undertake the epic task of saving those worlds. From Software -- a Japanese developer capable of cranking out functional finished products with incredible speed -- has given these players what they want with Enchanted Arms. The game isn't in any danger of becoming the next big thing in RPGs, but it's a game that certainly knows what its doing.

With Enchanted Arms, you’ve got a good battle system, worthy distractions, an above-average storyline, and an interesting and addictive golem collection. There are a few big weak points that make even the infamous “giant crab” look shielded–awful voice acting, boring music, and linear gameplay definitely rupture this Japanese RPG’s path to being a great game. While Enchanted Arms might not be “great,” it’s definitely good. If you’ve been craving a traditional RPG or an Xbox 360 game that will keep you entertained for more than a weekend, consider checking out Enchanted Arms.

PlayStation 31UP
An element of repetition does set in as you work out your go-to moves and establish a system for getting to them, but the random starting positions and variety of seeing just how each battle will work out keeps things interesting. It's by no means an unfamiliar appeal. The PS2 library contains countless similar games, each with its own clique of followers. And in that vein Enchanted Arms will likely earn its share of fans as well, but even they may not be exactly sure why they're playing it on a "new-gen" console.

PlayStation 3IGN
Enchanted Arms is a slightly above-average RPG at best. Yes, it's the first role-player to feature traditional turn-based combat on the PS3, but there are so many shortcomings to the actual game that I can only recommend the $60 investment to the hardest of hardcore RPG fans. There's nothing here that stands out. You've done it all before.
62
Xbox 360Xbox360Achievements
An enjoyable game that is just lacking that bit of extra imagination to make it stand out, with the glut of quality titles that have emerged to fill the RPG void it seems that there is very little reason to pick this up. If you've played the rest, however, then this could provide an entertaining enough diversion as the battle system alone should be enough to pique your interest.

PlayStation 3Cheat Code Central
Overall, Enchanted Arms is a decent RPG experience, especially for those gamers looking for their role-playing fix on the PlayStation 3. If you've already played the game on the Xbox 360, there isn't much more here for you. The thirty new Golems and the Sixaxis support don't really offset the loss of online play. However, if you're just looking for an RPG to pass the time, you could do worse than Enchanted Arms.

I can't recommend Enchanted Arms for purchase at any current price, but it may be worth renting if you dig the Eastern style of gameplay. If you do take the plunge, I advise you to turn off the poor English translations and stick to the original Japanese language with English subtitles. You may not understand what they are saying, but your sanity will be intact at the end of the 30 to 40 hour bout.

The first thing to know about Enchanted Arms, the new and first Japanese RPG for the Xbox 360, is that its title is refreshingly literal. In the game, your actual arm is enchanted. To understand the clever irony of this title, you need to go back just twenty seconds to before you read the first few sentences of this review. What did you think Enchanted Arms was about just from its title? I bet you wouldn’t have guessed it was about actual arms. I bet you didn’t know that “Gears of War” is about building cogs and camshafts for Halliburton either.

After reading all that do you want to know another neat thing about this game? Did you see that picture towards the top? You so get to fight that pizza guy, how cool is that? Beating up pizzas is pretty sweet, but the lack of story, bad color choices for the options/shop screens, and horrible voice acting make this game only mediocre. With the huge price on this game though, from $59.99 to $19.99 it is a nice buy for RPG fans.

It's about damn time the Xbox 360 got an offline role-playing game (sorry, Final Fantasy XI). Unfortunately, the first one we got was Enchanted Arms. It's likely to reap the sales benefits of being the only game in town, but it's precious little more than a color-by-number exercise in tired RPG traditions.

From Software and UbiSoft team up to make the JRPG debut on the Xbox 360 a real dud. I can't even recommend renting this one just for the amount of time you're going to have invest for so little payoff. This is a game that tried to do everything by the numbers, and it missed even being able to accomplish that.

Enchanted Arms is poor. It’s very poor. Surprisingly poor – it’s far from next-generation in every way, and even its impressive graphics do not fully utilise the potential of the platform and successfully distract player attention from the generally low-end execution of every other facet. Frankly, Enchanted Arms offers an excruciating experience from start to finish, and it’s a game that should sink to the very bottom of the bargain bin and be wholly forgotten by all who are unlucky enough to cross its path.

For those of us that love classic turn-based role-playing games, the PlayStation 3 is a barren wasteland (unless you want to play old PS2 and PS games on it). Into this empty hellscape comes Enchanted Arms, a by-the-numbers Japanese RPG that received a lukewarm reception on the Xbox 360 almost a year ago and has been little improved by the move to PS3. If you're a fan of JRPGs, then you'll know the kind of issues that you can expect from Enchanted Arms, because it suffers from the typical issues that plague these games: too many random encounters, crappy, nonsensical story and recycled enemies.
