Enemy Nations

Even if Enemy Nations belongs to the growing category of real-time strategy games, it offers several features never seen before that will bring a wind of fresh air to the genre. At first glance, the game resembles Deadlock (Accolade) and This Means War! (MicroProse) put together, taking the best advantages of both games. Graphics are brilliant and look even better than those of Accolade's hit, and the real-time engine is flying compared to the speed in MicroProse's game. In addition, Enemy Nations includes multi-player support to let you play with friends across several connection possibilities including the Internet.

Вот такая игра. Вся из себя неоднозначная и многогранная. Широчайший размах и слабоватая реализация. Исключительная, но очень медленная графика. Мощный AI и куча багов (не забудьте, кстати, скачать из "Интернета" последний patch). Делали игру талантливые и богатые идеями люди, но выглядит она кустарно. То ли денег не хватило, то ли времени, то ли умения. Жалко еще, что создатели так упростили сюжет, предельно "обнажив" цели и задачи. Все-таки в игре должна быть какая-то тайна, какая-то драма. Но при всем том, если бы игра не стоила бы вашего внимания, мы не стали бы столько писать о ней. Вокруг полно кустарно сделанных, но с претензиями поделок, срок жизни которых исчисляется днями. Enemy Nations - не из их числа. Пусть сыровато, пусть тормозит, но зато это настоящая игра, играть в которую ИНТЕРЕСНО. А это важнее всего.

As I said in the beginning of this review, if you have a good machine and enjoy real time games (building or strategy) you owe it to yourself to give Enemy Nation from Windward Studios a crack. You will probably come back again and again. A solid 4 GiN gems for this impressive title!

Enemy Nations ist eine gute Mischung aus Transport Tycoon und etwas Command & Conquer. Das Instandhalten der Infrastruktur macht mindestens genausoviel Spaß wie der militärische Teil der Simulation, allerdings muß man sich für ein Spiel mehrere Tage Zeit nehmen. Das gleiche gilt auch für das Netzwerkspiel, bei dem eine unbegrenzte Anzahl an Spielern teilnehmen kann.

The complex building and strategy models make for interesting play, but the noisy and elusive game pieces hindered my being really involved. Throughout the game I had difficulty finding the groove that makes this kind of game fun. Having said that, I'd have to recommend it to anyone whose interest is piqued having read this review. It certainly delivers the actual meat of the strategy and combat models, and it's obviously the product of a great deal of work.

Het mist duidelijk de aantrekkingskracht die C&C zo groot maakte, vooral omdat het veel te ingewikkeld wordt en alles veel te traag gaat. Speelde je graag C&C, dan is dit spel niets voor jou. Hou je van spellen waar het bouwen en werken boven het veroveren en het vechten staat, dan is dit misschien nog het bekijken waard.

Leider schafft "Enemy Nations" die Gratwanderung zwischen Strategiespiel und Wirtschaftssimulation nicht ganz. Besonders Anfänger verlieren leicht den Überblick im ziemlich komplexen Wirtschaftsteil. Sobald dann noch der Gegner anrückt, artet es schnell in Hektik aus. Der Computer führt seine Truppen dabei recht einfallslos - so läßt er etwa selten von einem einmal aufs Korn genommenen Ziel ab. Wer beide Genres mag, sollte trotzdem am Kampf um den letzten kolonisierbaren Planeten teilnehmen. Schließlich gibt es momentan kein anderes Echtzeit-Spiel, das beide Sparten in diesem Maß bedient.

Enemy Nations is a complex game with poor AI and even worse pathing. Increases in game difficulty amount to your opponents having more stuff when they begin, not acting more intelligently. The tutorial is an exercise in frustration, the manual reads like postmodern deconstructionism, and it will only run well on truly exceptional hardware.
