A game that is based upon an immensely popular video franchise is a hard thing to pass judgment on, as any fan of the movie has always had their own conception of what a Matrix. Since the opening day of the first movie every gamer had their own thoughts on what a Matrix game would and should be and now that an official Matrix game has been released some of the thoughts change from should and would be, to could be.

Enter the Matrix is the perfect companion to the trilogy of films. With new footage written and directed by the Wachowski brothers and a story that gives new or deeper meaning to sequences in the movies, this game is an absolute no-brainer for Matrix fans. It’s fan boy heaven and the coolest thing since deleted scenes on DVD. On the other hand, if you’re just looking for a solid action game, Enter the Matrix is respectable but not great.

I’d be lying if I told you that I wasn’t excited about this game. How could I not be? Just the thought of running along walls and flipping to the side as I unload countless rounds of ammo all through the patented Matrix slow-motion is reason enough to hyperventilate, lose sleep, and camp out in front of my local retailer a week prior to release. Throw in a new story written and directed by the Wachowski brothers, including live-action footage filmed exclusively for the game, and I’m down for the count.

So this game does indeed let us Enter the Matrix. We can live, breath, fight and die in the Matrix. But the real selling point of this game has to be video footage of the upcoming film, the graphics and being able to fight Trinity! It falls short on game play but the look and feel created by the music and cinematic style is truly engrossing. Can this game compete with the big boys? Well of course it can, what it lacks in game play hours and a multiplayer game it more than makes up for in style and variation of game play. This game is definitely worth a look if you are a Matrix fan and even if you're not, it's still a little beauty of a game!

All in all, this game satisfied my craving for a Matrix videogame. Although I was bummed when I realized you couldn’t play with the main three characters of the trilogy (Neo, Trinity and Morpheous), I still kept at it and had fun with what was there. Keep digging throughout the game to unlock mini-games and a multi-player fighter!

Despite an annoying flaw and a lack of Xbox eye candy, we think playing through ETM will be a joy for fans of the movies - seldom do multiformat movie tie-ins manage to convey the atmosphere and feel of the source material so well - and The Matrix as a seriously cool and action-packed movie series to replicate. So respect, kudos, brownie points and a big girly kiss to Shiny for doing such a good job with everything from bullet trails and shattering concrete to death animations and amazing sound (including some great music). But guys: we really need to play as Neo next time…

I came out of Matrix: Reloaded a little bit disappointed. With all of the hype surrounding the release of the film, how could I not. However, the real downer was in just how many holes there were in the film's story. Who picked up the package? What happened at the power station? Just who the heck is this Asian fellow that keeps standing behind Jada Pinkett-Smith? The Wachowski brothers spun quite the tail with their pseudo-religious cyberpunk story of man vs. machine, but there were gaping holes that I couldn't fill. Enter the Matrix, the videogame from the Wachowski's and Shiny Entertainment, is the thread that was missing from the cinematic tapestry.

Enter the Matrix is really driven more by its license than by the sum of its parts. For Matrix fans, the cut scenes alone might be worth taking the game for a test run. There's even a "hacking" mode for players to get lost in which mimics the mainframe from the first Matrix title. The disappointment sets in relatively quickly, though, when you first see the poor level design firsthand and after you've seen every martial arts move that the game has to offer after the third level or so. Enter the Matrix had a lot of potential—and rightfully high expectations, given the constant delays that the project saw. Shades of that potential are tapped by this game, but it still feels like it needed more time to get things right. A rental is recommended here, if only to just experience what the game has to offer, but a full price purchase just doesn't seem justified for what amounts to an ad nauseam game of repetition.

Four years ago, the original matrix movie was release and it blew viewers away with its impressive special effects. It was one of the first times that we saw “bullet-time” (it has now since been used in just about everything that you can think of.) There was plenty of action to be found, and the story was good enough to keep your attention throughout the movie. Fast forward to the present, and we now have Matrix Reloaded. More of the same special effects can be found, but this time around there is a video game to go along with the movie, Enter the Matrix.

If they hadn’t rushed this game to match the release of the movie, if they had ditched the driving, if they had cleaned up the camera a little, if they had given me the targeting ability of every other first person shooter in existence, and if they had let me play as one or more of the major characters rather than just a couple of second bananas, then they would have really had something. I realize that’s a lot of ifs. Taken as a whole it results in a fighting game that is just a little better than OK, heavy on the disappointment, as we all mourn the game that could, probably should, have been.

At the time of writing this review I only saw The Matrix and The Animatrix, but not had the time to see The Matrix Reloaded yet, I thought I knew what I could expect from this title. But Did my expectations come through or where the disks more enjoyable as your average tea-table coaster?

We all know how fast the gaming industry is growing and prognosis are that it will keep on growing along with the expansion of Information Technology to the so-called “Developing and Third World countries”. At the same time the movie industry realises that DVD’s, DivX, mp3’s, HDTV and other technologies are just the start of what’s to come. They know very well that they have to look forward and invest in the technological boom.

So Enter the Matrix isn't "the next evolution of interactive entertainment" after all. It's not even a revolutionary title, one that would set new standards. It is however an above-average title, and one of the few movie-based games that deserves to be played; and definitely a must-have for any Matrix fan.

Was Enter the Matrix an Potenzial verschenkt, ist einfach nur schade.

Manages to provide some of the coolest hand-to-hand combat seen outside of the beat-'em-up genre, but the driving sessions are not as enjoyable, and the game can feel a bit incomplete. With more time (it had to tie-in with the Reloaded release date) it could have been a better game, but as it is, it is just something that just has not quite lived up to our full expectations for a Matrix game.

In light of that (and the sales of three million on a wave of hype), I think the final conclusion is that it is fun and action packed, with some excellent features, but it is still a film spin-off. If you are a fan of The Matrix, you'll love all the action, if not, perhaps Tron 2.0 is what you are after on PC, or the new Tomb Raider on consoles for something comfy and familiar. Will it add to your understanding of the Matrix universe? We'll have to wait and see - but whilst you are waiting, you can join in the action and quite literally, enter the Matrix.

Enter the Matrix hat viele größere Probleme.

Whether you like it or not, The Matrix has become one of the most significant movies of the past decade. Akin to the film’s premise, its technical influence has irrevocably changed many aspects of our daily life. The most obvious example of this has been the copious use of bullet-time. Football games use rotating camera angles to capture every view possible for a developing play. Everything from beer commercials to fellow movies have imitated Trinity’s jumps, Morpheus philosophies and Neo’s fights. More importantly (to us, anyway), games like Max Payne have ushered in the physics-bending, time-altering action to further augment gameplay. Not to be outdone, Shiny Interactive and Atari have released Enter The Matrix, a game that jacks players deep into The Matrix to help the humans in their struggle against the machines.

Let us all pray, Morpheus that the meaning of your lives doesn’t rest solely on the fate of Enter The Matrix. While the original plot and movie footage are an interesting look into the backstory between The Animatrix, Reloaded and the original film, the lackluster action, replayability and glitches severely hamper this title from truly being great. The most hardcore Matrix fan will probably eat this game up, but for action buffs, a rental will probably be the furthest trip down the rabbit hole those gamers will go.

Enter the Matrix is an odd game in that it is only entertaining for short bursts of time. Don't get me wrong; surely any undertaking to make a Matrix game is a difficult one. The development team must make a game that keeps intact the spirit and style of the movies' revolutionary fight sequences and the mood set by the dialogue and dark, naturally lit locales, and (most daunting of all) it must fall in line with the lore that has been written and spoken of since the initial film's 1999 release and make sure all the salivating Morpheus followers are duly satiated. A tall order indeed - is developer Shiny up to the task? Wait and find out.

Nichtsdestotrotz spielt sich Enter the Matrix erstaunlich flott.

If you simply can’t wait then go ahead and get it. There is plenty of fun to be had as long as you can tolerate some average graphics and a few levels of frustrating gameplay. The story alone is nearly worth the price of admission and makes a great companion piece to the movie.

Overall, this game is really weak in length. Enter The Matrix can be beaten on any difficulty in about 3-4 hours tops. Once you beat it on the hardest difficulty, you'll want to throw this title out in the trash, since you will never touch it again. Why play a game that lacks two-player action and has repetitive game play over and over again. It's not really worth it, especially for the fifty dollar price tag. This is a rental title only, unless you are one of the people on the block that likes to collect every game out there. For budget gamers who only want to buy good titles, move along; this isn't the game for you!

If Shiny and Atari had decided to push the game back and set it for release with the Matrix Reloaded DVD or with the Matrix Revolutions theatrical release and addressed the game’s many problems, then Enter the Matrix could’ve been a substantially better game for it. However, what we end up with is a rushed, unpolished disappointment. If you’re a big Matrix fan, rent the game and play it for the story. Otherwise, let it alone.

The collision detection is hit-and-miss (pun intended), but the occasional lapses don't adversely affect the gameplay. It's been reported that Enter the Matrix is susceptible to locking up, but I haven't experienced any of that. I can't forget to mention the much ballyhooed extra Matrix footage filmed exclusively for this game. I'm not a big fan of the trilogy, but these scenes are a real treat for fans. Unfortunately, the video is not DVD quality and looks somewhat grainy. Enter the Matrix definitely has its share of issues, but I still had a good time playing it.

Does Enter the Matrix have a ton of little flaws and bugs? Sure it does. Could it have been better if the developers took more time to polish it? Absolutely. But it’s still a fun little game, and a must-own for Matrix fans. And now that people have started trading it in, it shouldn’t be hard to find it at a bargain price. This is a game that deserves a second look after all the initial negative vibes it got, and with Revolutions just around the corner, now is a good of a time as any.

Another cash cow, right? The answer is right. The Matrix: Reloaded is well on its way to making three hundred million dollars at the US Box Office and it makes us wonder how an R-rated movie can do so well. Well, the answer is fanboys. They would do anything for this series. Maybe even die for it, which is something yet to be determined but we'll assume that they will do it anyways because they are morons with no life, just like the game who is writing this review. I can honestly say that this game is one of the most overhyped and one of the most disappointing games of 2003, even more so than the Getaway, which previously held the title until this little stinker came along.

Enter the Matrix is a game that, done right, could have been something special. Never before have games and movies tried to come together in this way, and the concept is a cool one. However, the game serves as little more than an advertisement for the film--it doesn't have a story that stands on its own, and the gameplay doesn't really offer anything that we haven't seen in better games. There have been plenty of games based on movies in the past, and there seems to be an industry subset devoted solely to pumping out run-of-the-mill action games based loosely on books, TV shows, movies, and cartoons. Enter the Matrix attempts to take the concept to the next level by delivering a new storyline that runs concurrent to the movie it's based on, The Matrix Reloaded, filling in some of the back story that the movie doesn't have time to deliver. While there are a few instances in the game where that is indeed the case, the game's story isn't strong enough to stand on its own, and the gameplay simply doesn't save it, making the game worth a look for hard-core fans of The Matrix films, but a buggy disappointment for just about anyone else.

Go see The Matrix: Reloaded, then rent the game and use a cheat code to watch all of the extra film footage at one time. You won’t miss much if you don’t play the actual game. The prospect was eagerly anticipated. The wait was unbearably long. But the game that is the supporting crutch of the much-hyped Matrix film sequels unfortunately doesn’t live up to the achievements that were predicted for it. Enter the Matrix, instead, offers a frustrating look into the deeper meaning of rushing a game to the masses.

Enter the Matrix took the red pill before it was really ready to know the truth. A few more months in the kung-fu simulator would have done this smartly-conceived action game a freakload of good.

All in all, even if the game came out before Max Payne it would still be rated as mediocre at the very least. It's gameplay lacks more depth, the plot doesn't fit very well with the constant action so there's nothing to tie the player for a long time, and bugs in the engine code and AI were there to screw things up even further. With such a reputable crew behind it and after the spectacular movie incarnations, Enter the Matrix turned out to be less than average. It's a damn shame...

To sum up, Enter the Matrix succeeds as a part of the franchise's universe. The mythology, the atmosphere and the bullet-time – It’s all here. As a game, it falls flat on its face. In slow motion. The game is the sum of its parts, with none of the parts being any good. Filled with unfinished and unrefined concepts, the game could have greatly benefited with some more development time.

Conventional wisdom tells us that there's only one thing worse than video games based on movies, and that's movies based on video games. But conventional wisdom isn't always right, and I can name a bunch of really good games that happened to have movie licenses. (Uh, I'll have to get back to you on the list of good vidgame movies.) Certainly, we've come a long way since the days of the reprehensible Total Recall for the NES, and Shiny's Enter The Matrix is a new breed of movie-licensed video game. The game makers worked closely with the Matrix movie staff to take their production to a new level of authenticity and game / movie integration. Unfortunately, playing Enter The Matrix served as a painful reminder that all the authenticity in the world can't help when the game is completely unpolished and the core gameplay is weak.

Enter the Matrix has some definite value for Matrix fans, but as a pure videogame, but there's simply too much wrong with it, especially on the PC. If possible, Matrix fans who absolutely must play the game should rent a copy on the consoles; at full price, the PC version is just a dog.

Yes, it would be better if the game were more fun to play. It’s frustrating that each time the game reaches a climactic moment that calls for some major derring-do, a cut-scene kicks in and the derring gets done without any input from you. But that doesn’t change the fact that the cut-scenes are great fun to watch. It’s ironic: The Matrix Reloaded may have been a better videogame than it was a movie, and now along comes Enter the Matrix, and it turns out to be a better movie than it is a game. Sometimes you just can’t win. But then, any student of Hume already knows that.

Så vem vill då ha Enter the Matrix?

Like most film tie-ins Enter the Matrix is a third person action game where you run around participate in simple combat sequences, do a bit of this and a bit of that as the developers try and fit multiple genres into the gameplay. None of it is brilliant but on the other hand none of it is particularly bad either. As a game designed to compliment the films it does it's job and fans of the Matrix films will probably have picked this up on the day of release, which accounts for the high sales, and be reasonably happy with it. Looking at the game from a gamer's point of view though it's distinctly average in every department and for your money there's a lot better to be had than this.

The Wachowski brothers? multimedia crossover experiment exposes its weakest link as Atari and Shiny rush out Enter the Matrix for PC. If you?re looking to expand your The Matrix Reloaded experience, well, you might want to look for some good fan fiction.

On a final note, Enter the Matrix stays true to the Matrix story, as it was written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers’, the writing-directing team behind the Matrix movie trilogy. The end of the game gives you some insight into the next movie, which is really the coolest part of the game and there is also nearly one full hour of exclusive, never-before-seen Matrix footage using the film’s actors and crew.

If the Wachowski-directed movie scenes woo you into the game or you are blatantly curious about the subplot movie, then rent it and watch it as you mindlessly play. If you are wanting this to trump Max Payne, you will be disappointed and are better off borrowing Enter the Matrix from your friend who was already duped by the hype into buying it.

Whenever someone jacks into The Matrix, it seems like they're always clad in Versace leathers and stylish sunglasses. I suppose one explanation is that appearance is a physical manifestation of the id. Either that or everyone is just tired of wearing ratty cotton sweaters. The same rules apply in the game Enter the Matrix. Underneath the glamorous surface and the ability to have some bullet time combat fun is just one ratty sweater of a game.

Enter the Matrix is an unrealized dream that tries to bring movies and games together and comes up far short. It's blatantly obvious that this game isn't quite finished. Unfortunately, that tends to happen when you tie in the release of the game with the film. While it does have its moments and diehard Matrix fans will drool over the extra videos, this game receives the blue pill.

Enter The Matrix is less of the 'groundbreaking title' Infogrames claimed it would be and more, well, crap. We suggest renting it at best - and that's only if you're absolutely desperate to see what you're not missing.

Enter the Matrix is yet another licensed property that pretends to be a real live game. If full-motion video weren’t dead, you could bet that the back cover of the game box would feature all sorts of boasts about exclusive clips from the movie. Oh, wait a sec. It does. As does the game in question, which constantly kills what little excitement the gameplay generates by turning you into a moviegoer at the worst moments. Need to know anything more? Only Wachowski Brothers fans should apply here. Unless a copy falls off a truck or is left to you as part of your grand-uncle’s will—in which case you should at least install Enter the Matrix for a few hours to see what a bloated, big-money movie game looks like in 2003—leave this monkey alone.

Being a red-blooded American male who likes hot women dressed in leather, kung fu, clever plotlines, and big gunfights, I naturally enjoyed The Matrix. Being an educated individual with little patience for intellectual patronization, endless expository dialogue, and lectures about the nature of causality, I naturally found The Matrix Reloaded hugely disappointing. Being a Sacrifice fan who is still mad at Shiny Entertainment for failing to make a sequel, and a student of gaming history who knows how good movie-franchise games usually turn out to be, I was dubious at best about Enter the Matrix. And this game, by far the most expensive ever made and sporting a plotline nearly integral to understanding the second movie, is indeed the mediocrity that I feared it might be.

Let's be fair: Enter The Matrix has almost its fair share of good bits. The hacking mode is a bit of a laugh, the combat can be quite fun (and if you haven't played Max Payne you'll probably enjoy it even more), it's reasonably lengthy (more than the seven hours we've seen quoted elsewhere, especially if you play it on Normal and go for both campaigns), it has slow-motion sniping and some madcap running-away-from-agents rooftop chases, and it plugs some of the gaps in and poses more brain-teasing questions about a storyline that has most of the world hooked, but it is blighted on so many levels by the blundering stupidity of its malformed stillborn design that recommending it is beyond us. The blue pill never looked so tasty.

Enter the Matrix is even more of a let down for fans of both the Matrix universe and for fans of good video games. A game based on a movie will always be fighting an uphill battle, and Enter the Matrix fails to surmount the obstacles it had to overcome in order to be an entertaining play. Instead the game looks, and feels unfinished through and through. The most obvious reason for this is most likely so that the release of the game could coincide with the release of the movie. Unfortunately, the biggest recipe for disaster for games is a development cycle that isn’t given enough time.

Clearly, this is a hype game produced to go along with a much-talked-about movie. It could have been a good game, even a great game, but it's not. Why do I keep mentioning Max Payne in this review? Because absolutely everything Enter the Matrix attempts (with the exception of the awful driving segments) was done twice as well in Max Payne with the free Kung Fu mod, which I highly recommend. Despite the fact that you can play through Enter the Matrix with two characters, this game does not even begin to appeal to me. In fact, the suggestion that I would even want to play through such a terrible game a second time is, quite frankly, insulting. And yes, I realize that the missions are different depending on which character you choose. Even so, I would rather slit my wrists with a wire potscrubber.
