Gaming Target (Jul 15, 2005)
Trying to find something unique and different to base a racing simulation around is a difficult task; there's only so much you can do to a game based on realism. Somehow though, Konami found a way, with the unique Enthusia Professional Racing. Based around a hyper-realistic physics and handling model, Enthusia takes the road less traveled, and emphasizes not pure speed, but instead making driving skill the most vital component of the game. Thanks to some innovative features, Enthusia gets the job done, with few flaws, though the game is not perfect.
MAN!AC (Apr 29, 2005)

Worth Playing (Jun 24, 2005)
Konami's racer is headed in the right direction with Enthusia, no doubt about it. The RPG-inspired leveling system is intriguing, although it could be more streamlined. There are a lot of points and figures to keep track of, which is more confusing than necessary. Despite this complex system, it's nice to see a simulation racer that doesn't rely on money to advance within the game. Hopefully, if there's a sequel, more racing options will be included so the Enthusia Life mode would have more variety and less repetitiveness because GT4 and Forza simply offer tons more to do. There are some shortcomings, but Konami can take pride in its realistic physics model. It's the heart of the game, and the main source of challenge, satisfaction, and fun. At the end of the day, Enthusia lives up to the tagline, "It's not what you drive, it's how you drive."
Despite my belief that the good majority of Gran Turismo players only unlock a fraction of the game's cars, I know why millions of people love the series - it makes cars sexy. It's the successful merging of this with hardcore gameplay that captures the imagination. Enthusia is no less dedicated, but does lack the glitz factor.

Gran Turismo has been the driving for... oh, you know the drill. Everything else has been just plain arcade in comparison. Finally there's another worthy driver on the lonely simulation road: Enthusia Professional Racing. It isn't perfect, and it doesn't usurp the throne, but it is pretty darn good.

Enthusia manages to inject some innovation into the driving simulation genre. The Enthusia Life mode certainly seems promising but it could have been presented better. What I would say though is that you'll need a good steering wheel to make the most of the game.
Game Chronicles (Jun 03, 2005)
Enthusia Professional Racing has been in the works for quite some time now, so it was either cosmic bad luck or just poor marketing strategy that Konami released their new racing title only a few short months after Sony dazzled us with Gran Turismo 4. And to make the choice even more difficult for Xbox owners, Forza Motorsport released the very same day as Enthusia.

Enthusia racing is not going to be to everyones liking, players who want to try something a bit different may take a liking to it but despite all the nice new touches there are better racing games on PS2.
GameSpot (May 03, 2005)
Enthusia Professional Racing looks to take the racing simulator fight directly to its high-profile PlayStation 2 rival, the much-lauded Gran Turismo series. Rather than following the path of many racing games on the same platform, looking to imitate the GT franchise's approach, Enthusia takes a very different--and sometimes innovative--approach to the collectible car game. While the game's touchy driving model and overly complex career mode won't appeal to everyone, Enthusia is a worthy game for those looking for something different in the four-wheel genre.
IGN (Apr 28, 2005)
It's really a shame that Konami's racing title, Enthusia Professional Racing, is coming out just a couple of months after SCEA's Gran Turismo 4. Had Enthusia come out last year its own take on the enthusiast driving life would be more accepted. But with the playing field changed by Sony's entry it feels more like an average racer than anything truly exceptional. And with a bizarre career mode that saps some of the fun out of the game, Enthusia is a game that will be noted more for its uniqueness than its greatness.
PSX Extreme (May 12, 2005)
It's not that Enthusia is necessarily a bad game, but it's definitely an acquired taste that not all car buffs are going to appreciate—even after a few hours to learning to adjust and opening up more than a few new cars to try out. There's really nothing here that a game like Gran Turismo 4 hasn't already brought to the table already, and so justifying a purchase just isn't possible here. If you're looking for something a little different than Gran Turismo 4, then give Enthusia a test drive; however, don't sign on the dotted line until you've take her around the block more than a few times.
Video Game Talk (May 23, 2005)
Playing through the different modes is rewarding if you have the patience to master the sensitive controls and don’t mind being punished for poor driving, instead of rewarded for good. If Konami takes some of these concepts and reinvents them slightly, you could look at a seriously challenging series that could rival the big boys. Unfortunately though, with those other games on the market, this one winds up being merely above average. If you’re a car simulation freak then this game is recommended, otherwise it’s merely a rental.

The game is a good first attempt at the genre for Konami, but it still needs some work before it can be considered a must-buy for the PlayStation 2. Still, if you're a racing fan and like the idea of racing against the odds, then it's worth picking up.
Yahoo! Games (May 03, 2005)
Billed as a driving sim for enthusiasts, Konami's latest racer is lining up with some high-horsepower competitors. In handling terms it's up there with the best of them, but it's lacking in the long-term addictive buzz we've come to expect from this style of game. Expect it to stay firmly in Gran Turismo 4's rear-view mirror.
GameSpy (May 04, 2005)
To most gamers, Enthusia is going to surprise them like a car alarm in the dead of night. Instead of trying to ignore it and go back to sleep, though, I recommend race fans give Enthusia the old college try. It's a different racer than what you're accustomed to, while still firing on all the driving sim cylinders.
GameZone (May 09, 2005)
Every type of racing game has a leader. Gran Turismo is the undisputed simulation leader. Ridge Racer is the king of the arcade (in spirit, at least). Wipeout leads all futuristic racing games. When it comes to water racers, gamers look to the past: Wave Race and Splashdown.

UOL Jogos (May 05, 2005)

The noble, sporting ethic of "it's not the winning but the taking part" is all very stiff upper lip, but you can take that age old concept a little too far. Extend the logic to Konami's GT wannabe - the bizarrely titled Enthusia - and you've essentially got a racing game where it's not about finishing first but largely about your ability to driving patiently, skilfully and - above all - cleanly.
With the VGS system, the demerits and the odds, you are forced into a style of racing that is neither sim nor arcade. It's a hybrid that is more challenging than fun, though some might want the word "challenging" changed to "frustrating." There's only one way to find out if Enthusia is for you and that's to rent it.
