WindowsGame industry News (GiN)
Eve Online is simply the best online space game you have probably never played. I was shocked to find such a huge and well detailed community when I first arrived. There is a rich back story to the world and tons of short stories and literature on the eve-online.com home page, much of it written by players. Combine this with a completely huge and non-linear world that is largely controlled by the players, and you have a truly unique experience that is not to be missed.

If you have plenty of ambition and free time then I can’t think of a better online game you could play. It’s stable, it’s fun, there is a great player community, and the possibilities are endless, limited only by your drive and imagination. Space might be the final frontier but EVE is the genesis of a new type of online experience.

This MMORPG is already a couple of months available, but it takes time before you understand most of it. So this review is not the first to appear on the web… but at least it is not made after 2 hours of gaming. And actually it is not made by me alone, I’ve called the help of a friend who is playing EVE for the last 5 months. (The maniac…)

EVE is one of the most complex games I’ve sunk my teeth into. It’s an infinitely gratifying space-sandbox where you can do just about anything, assuming you can take the time to learn the gameplay in a mostly-hostile environment…yeah, newbies are fair prey for griefing and scamming. The technological constraints (performance) are a downer, but the graphics and gameplay opportunities are mind-blowing in their scope.

I've spent a solid week dedicated to spacefaring, and I've seen only a tiny, tiny portion of Eve Online in terms of ships, abilities, items, people, gameplay, missions and just plain old space. You could play this game for years before you really started to feel like you might have seen everything it had to offer. If you can just get past the rough beginning, the difficulty, and the steep learning curve, Eve Online is the biggest game you could possibly hope to play.

Overall, the gameplay in EVE Online is quite good. There's always something to do and you can progress without endless grinding. However, if you want to power-level, you will be quite disappointed. No matter how much you do, the skills will always train just as fast for you as everyone else.

WindowsIGN
Overall I'd say that EVE has great potential. Though still struggling through the early stages of MMO growth, the game seems to be shaping up quite well. Live events staged by the developers are already being planned, helping to make the game that much more fun. And the game mechanics make it possible for pretty much anyone to have fun. This game is for anyone who wants to be able to truly affect the game world around them, and be a part of the force that shapes the story of EVE. This game is not for those who want to be told where to go and what to do next, and is not for those who just want to go out and kill things. There are consequences to your actions in this game, and if you are unable to grasp the political situation and learn to battle in that arena as well as you battle the other players with your weapons, you won't survive long.

WindowsGame Over Online
The quintessential difference between this title and its competitors (Earth and Beyond and Freelancer come to mind) is the detail. There is so much detail and so much planned to expand on those details that you could literally be enthused on tangents for months at a time. If you can get past the initial learning curve, and the mercantilist or capitalist theme interests you, EVE Online is hearty enough to become your main pastime on the PC. But, what a glorious year it is for space-borne games; now we have two massive universes and a riveting single player title after years of drought in the genre.

WindowsArmchair Empire, The
MMORPGs have become such a wide, expansive genre over the years. Everyone is looking to cash in, but oh so few actually manage to make something that gamers deem worthy of their time. Enter CCP’s Eve Online, which chooses to enter the wide expansive world of outer space. Allowing players to be successful corporate citizens, miners of rare minerals, bounty hunters, or even pirates, the door is left wide open for how players choose to make their way through the game. With some fabulous visuals thrown into the mix there’s a lot to like about this game. The only major drawback of the game is that the pacing will be too slow for some, but there are workarounds to a degree that should help alleviate the problem.

EVE isn’t for everyone. You must have patience and be excited about non-structured gameplay in order for it to be worth the price of admission. Action hungry thrill-mongers will do themselves a favor by steering clear of this one. Those who are willing to spend quality time interacting with a virtual universe and are creative in that interaction will be rewarded with a multi-layered and thoughtfully constructed experience.

An absolutely mind-blowing “sandbox” MMOG, EVE Online will take you months, if not years, to explore. Just be willing to put up with some unreliable behavior from the Mac version until the developers can straighten things out.

What's the bottom line on EVE Online then? Like many MMOs, you'll basically get out of it what you put in to it. EVE Online has no real goals beyond "Get stuff, get rich" - everything else is the product of player interactions. If you're not willing to put in the effort, watch the marketplace, play some office politics and generally give up big chunks of your free time to the game, you're just not going to enjoy it.On the other hand, if no-holds-barred hyper-capitalism and Machiavellian competition with real people appeals to you, your game has arrived.

At first glance, this online star trek is just what a sci-fi fan would’ve hoped for: it’s stuffed with future-jargon and sports the best space-sim graphics in years. Alas, it turns out to be the gameplay equivalent of blindfolded brain surgery.

WindowsGameCola.net
EVE Online could have been great. A whole fucking universe to do whatever you want! But it fails to provide anything entertaining to do with your time, and it loses its life very quickly. Don’t be fooled; the amount of tutorials doesn’t correlate to the amount of things you have to do. There aren’t enough ships to even fight a lot of the time, and finding them is a chore. It's probably more worth it down the line, but I think a lot of gamers will not have the patience to bother with this snoozefest up to there.

WindowsGMR
One of the few science-fiction MMORPGs in a market overly saturated with fairies and wizards, Eve Online promised a breath of fresh air but ends up being little more than an exercise in monotony. It is the epitome of wasted potential, with beautiful graphics, rich sounds, and some good ideas, all of which come to nothing due to unfocused gameplay, a poor interface, and its tedious nature.

WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW)
Eve Online comes so close to being a great game. It is absolutely stunning to look at, and it has one of the best collections of in-game music I have ever heard. Unfortunately, this stunning mood is crushed by an interface that has all the charm and convenience of a TPS report.
