Worth Playing
There is an excellent dollar value here: EverQuest 2, Desert of Flames, Kingdom of Sky, and Echoes of Faydwer, all on two DVD’s for roughly $40.00 or so dollars. Plus, the in-house clockwork whirligig pet you get is easily the coolest bonus the developers have included since the baby dragon in the original release special edition. So, is this “worth playing”? Absolutely. Why are you still reading this? Go out and get it!

A nice package with solid upgrades and great new lands to explore. Echoes of Faydwer does what an expansion should, right down the line. Yes, there should be new character slots so players can explore from the start, but that aside, what Faydwer adds to the EQII universe is rather wonderful.

Echoes of Faydwer's $40 cost might seem a little steep but that price also includes the core game and the previous two expansions, Desert of Flame and Kingdom of Sky, making it an excellent value for newcomers to the series. Naturally, the $15 monthly subscription fee will be a rather large consideration as well, but there's tons of content just on the island of Faydwer alone and you're likely to get your money's worth, at least for the first few months. Throw in a cool new race, gorgeous art design and talking mushrooms and it'll be hard for any existing EQ2 player to turn this one down.

I can easily recommend this package to gamers new to the Everquest series, although they may want to brush up on the storyline of the original game before diving in. Seasoned player won’t find the same level of enjoyment to the expansion pack, but there are a few neat extras that the true junkies won’t be able to pass up. Due to the sheer amount of content packaged with this version, full retail price is absolutely reasonable for players looking to invest their time and money into an entertaining RPG.

Echoes of Faydwer succeeds as a very appealing addition to EverQuest II. It packs a huge amount of content, with new dungeons for players of all level ranges and a new city to base all of your adventures. If you've been thinking about hopping into the world of EverQuest or looking to return, start here.

Can Echoes of Faydwer validly be called EQII's first "real" expansion? It certainly is the first to introduce content for players of all levels. As for whether or not it's the one that's changed the game most appreciably for the better, it all depends on what sort of player you are. Higher level players might have gotten more mileage out of prior expansions, while PvPers were served in equal portions by Desert of Flames and Kingdom of Sky (and their respective live updates). Without question, however, Echoes of Faydwer seems to be paving the way for the EQII of tomorrow, and that is no small feat. If you've been curious about the game, this is without a doubt the best place to start. Just make sure you're OK playing as one of the good guys.

Well, I could go on...there's really too much to talk about in a short segment. I'm having a swell time being a Faery. Stop that! I hear you laughing. If you haven't tried EQ2 at all, the Echoes of Faydwer complete game release is a great value and comes with the requisite free month of play. If you feel a little anonymous, overwhelmed, or frustrated by WoWs 7 million other inhabitants, are tired of waiting for battles, or gathering dozens of people for raids, you might enjoy Faydwer and the world of EQ2. Technical issues aside, it is a game that has matured, grown, and evolved, and I recommend checking it out.

Echoes of Faydwer doesn't just pack in all of the new content, though: It includes the Kingdom of Sky and Desert of Flames expansions as well. It goes without saying that if you haven't played EverQuest II, it's a great value. And if you already play? Well, the expansion has a load of new quests and characters, from gliding fairies to ticking motorized monstrosities. Echoes of Faydwer is EverQuest II's most likable expansion, thanks to its friendly new race and expansive continent, which makes it worth a look by both newcomers and veterans.
