EverQuest II: Kingdom of Sky

Ohne große Umschweife: Everquest 2 ziehe ich World of Warcraft eindeutig vor. Mir gefällt die Atmospähre, mir gefällt der abwechslungsreiche Kampf, mir gefällt das hervorragende Gildensystem. Und es gefällt mir, weil hier überwiegend erwachsene Rollenspieler unterwegs sind, die ihre Charaktere lieben und leidenschaftlich in der Welt von Norrath führen. Schade nur, dass die deutsche Fassung so schlecht ist.

For new players, the question is, "How did this place come to be?" while for veterans, the question is, "How does this tie into the Norrath of old?" Either way, it's an engaging addition to the ever-expanding world of EverQuest 2. True, there are a few minor kinks that need some ironing out (the transportation clouds that interconnect the floating islands often don't work, some quest-NPCs vanish for indeterminate lengths of time preventing quest turn-ins, etc.), but these are all minor issues that will get squished in the next LiveUpdate. The combination of in-game enhancements and solid expansions like the Kingdom of Sky provide a rich and rewarding persistent world experience. If you haven't taken in this game previously, now may be a very good time to start.

The PvP system is flawed and that dampens the experience and entertainment factor. Sure, there is an adrenalin rush, and you have to keep on your toes, but it does grow old after a while, and players who find themselves being ganked continuously by squads of PvPers who are exploiting the system may soon head for other pastures. This is still a decent expansion, offering solid ideas to further the game as well as new challenges, and upcoming patches may correct some of the flaws.

Auch im Zeitalter von World of Warcraft legt Sony Online Entertainment nicht die Hände in den Schoß und spendiert seinem Everquest 2 ein weiteres ambitioniertes Add-on. Kingdom of Sky bietet alles, was die Erweiterung eines Online-Rollenspiels braucht: Die Levelgrenze wird auf Stufe 70 und für Gilden auf Stufe 50 erhöht.

Het had toch wat meer mogen zijn, deze keer, al blijft de prijs, zeker voor wie de originele EQ2 nog niet bezit, prima!

Kingdom of Sky ist ein nettes Add-on, das die Level-Obergrenze auf 70 steigert und Spieler-gegen-Spieler-Kämpfe einführt. Dass nach anderthalb Jahren die Texte noch immer teilweise auf Englisch sind, ist aber schwach!

Again, Sony seems to have focused this expansion almost exclusively on the hardcore players at the top of the pyramid. Admittedly there's a broad range of players who can take advantage of the new achievement system but they're still missing out on the actual content -- quests, monsters, zones -- that's being offered to the high-level crowd. Whether or not it makes sense to give Kingdom of Sky a try will depend on whether or not you're already bumping your head against the current level cap and are growing bored with the existing content. If the answer to both questions is "yes" then you'll definitely find plenty of rewards here. Players who haven't yet hit those walls and don't really care about new hats can hold off for now.

EverQuest II: Kingdom of Sky is mostly a great content addition for those who are already at a high level, but the additions pass over newbies for the most part. If you've been holding off on EverQuest II because of a lack of player-versus-player interaction, though, the new PVP servers provide fertile ground for lots of combat so long as you can do without mentoring. If you're an EverQuest II faithful with an established character and have been looking for some new challenges to meet, zones to explore, and quests to plot out, Kingdom of Sky should scratch your itch quite nicely.

Si on ne peut que regretter le fait que l'add-on soit réservé aux personnages de niveau 60 à 70 et que la traduction française soit perfectible (d'où la note finale du test), il faut bien avouer que ce sont surtout les évolutions d'Everquest 2 au fil des mois qui font plaisir à voir. Serveurs PvP, une flopée de nouvelles quêtes, une accessibilité de plus en plus grande... Le jeu de Sony Online Entertainment tente de séduire les joueurs occasionnels et de devenir une véritable alternative à World of Warcraft. Force est de constater qu'il y parvient très bien tout en conservant la richesse de gameplay qui a fait son succès. Bref, si vous êtes lassé du monde d'Azeroth, allez donc visiter celui de Norrath, il y a fort à parier que vous ne serez pas déçu.

With an increase in the level cap and a lot of new high-end content, Kingdom of Sky is a necessity for any hardcore EQII gamer who is encroaching upon level 60. For lower level players, not buying the expansion pack isn’t going to put you at any real disadvantage. However, if you are playing on one of the newly implemented PvP servers, even at low levels, you might want to consider giving Kingdom of Sky a purchase. Traveling through the spires to get to enemy territory is the preferred method of travel on PvP servers, and without KoS you might find yourself straggling behind. Kingdom of Sky gets a B-.
