Excitebike

Have you never played excite bike? Where were you all this time? This is undoubtedly the best motorcross game for the NES. Maybe all console systems. This game had a track edit feature so the fun never stops! I've been playing this game for 10 years and it just does'nt stop being fun. This game is way ahead of it's time. The graphics, playability, track edit, and Game modes are awesome. If you havent played this game yet you are missing out bigtime.

Excitebike's graphics and sound won't win it any awards, but its tight control and addictive gameplay are hard to resist. The side-scrolling tracks feature hills, obstacles, mud, and ramps. Crisp control allows you to accelerate, turbo, and adjust the angle of your motorbike in the air (which affects your distance and landing). You can either race against other motorbikes or go solo. Racing against other bikers is more exciting, but it's also harder because touching another racer can knock you off your bike. There's no score here - the goal is to achieve the best time so you can advance to the next track. There are only five tracks included, but you also have the option to construct your own! That's right, there's a track editor that even lets you save your work! Excitebike is a quality game, and the only thing missing is a split-screen, two-player mode. This addictive motorcross game was recently "updated" for the Nintendo 64.

Tons of people used to play this game in the arcade. It was cool then, and this version is the same, only smaller and with a track designer.

Ask a classic gamer about Excitebike, and you'll probably get a handful of fond memories. And why not? It was a launch title for the U.S. release, and the NES had some memorable launch titles (Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, and Tennis to name a few) that continued to remain great games, instead of being lost in the flood of newer releases. Another fine example of how simplicity can win over flashy graphics and majillion dollar production budgets, Excitebike remains just as fun today as it did when it was released.

Many people have fond memories of Excitebike, since it was one of the original launch games for Nintendo's NES console back in 1985. Now that the game is available for the Wii's Virtual Console, it's nice to see that it's still charming and fun to play, even if the intervening years haven't been kind to the graphics and audio.

Racing games have been around in many shapes and guises for several years, and although this is very playable, it tires steadily as you play. Being so easy to play and master, it may appeal more to younger people, but we doubt whether there is much lasting appeal for hardened arcade or racing fans.

Véritablement sympathique dans son principe et rapidement addictif, Excitebike aurait aisément pu acquérir des lettres de noblesse, si seulement il n'était pas autant restrictif dans ce qu'il propose. La lassitude vient en effet rapidement frapper à votre porte et s'ajoute à la qualité graphique correcte, mais soumise à une mauvaise utilisation des couleurs. Nintendo a encore fait les choses en grand, en omettant volontairement d'implémenter un système de sauvegarde convenable pour l'éditeur de pistes, un des seuls points clairement intéressant du titre. Dommage. Je vous conseille tout de même de l'essayer.

I found the gameplay to a lot of fun but not for any extended period. Not even a multi-player mode would get this game a recommendation. If you could try it out at Blockbuster you probably wouldn't even rent it because it's all too obvious the fun is finite - just like this review.
