ELECTRONIC ARTS SHIPS F1 2001 FOR THE PLAYSTATION 2 AND PC-CD

Redwood City, Calif., --October 3, 2001– Experience the Formula One’ circuit as it comes to life with fully interactive pit stops, roaring crowds, a buzzing grid, and driver animations in F1 2001 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, released yesterday by Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS). The latest iteration of the EA SPORTS’ F1 franchise for the PC will be in stores next week.

EA’s F1 2001 development team collaborated with Formula One insiders including British American Racing (BAR) in order to capture the essence of Formula One racing. Motion captures, feedback from key members of race teams and test-driven product are among the authentic elements that the world of Formula One offered to the development and realism of F1 2001.

“We wanted to stretch the boundaries of motor sports gaming and shake up the racing genre all together,” said EA SPORTS Formula One Executive Producer, John Rostron. “F1 2001 has a new engine that has enabled us to do that, giving the gamer a new representation of the race circuit from car handling and opponent AI to the realism of each car and circuit.”

Interactive pit-stops which challenge the gamer to complete a series of tasks in order to improve pit time, pit crew-to-driver communication, realistic Formula One environments and weather models are among the numerous changes to the latest Formula One game from EA SPORTS. Additionally, gamers will enjoy new single player game modes, multiplayer game modes, opponent AI, sound, animation and added camera angles.

F1 2001 from EA SPORTS is officially licensed by Formula One Administration Ltd. and features all 22 Formula One drivers, 11 teams and 17 tracks from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to Monza.

Developed by EA UK, F1 2001 carries an ESRB rating of “E” for Everyone and a MSRP of US$39.99 for PC-CD and US$49.99 for the PlayStation 2 console.
