Fable

Ever since I first stumbled over Fable on Mobygames, I have been wanting to play it. The game looked stunning with hand-drawn scenes full of details, and a promising story. So when I finally got my hands on the game, I was actually afraid that my hopes were too high. However, three encounters and numerous scenes into the game, all worries were swept away. Not only does Fable look amazing, it packs a solid background story and dialogues as well. And all is done with attention to details and, above all, with lots of humour!

If you're looking for a fun little romp in the woods, Fable is a good title to get. It's not a mega-super-block-buster type ultra-hard game that-takes-days-to-play, but it does have some good puzzles. Just be aware that I wouldn't recommend this game for younger children. It's rated 13+ and does contain illustrations of some rather scantily clad women. Not exactly for mature audiences but it could raise some eyebrows on parents not expecting that kind of thing. Overall the graphics carry this production and make it worth purchasing. Especially if you enjoy quirky British humor as much as I do.

So, while simple, Fable is a fun play, and recommended as either a good beginner's adventure or a pleasant afternoon's diversion for the veteran gamer.

Alles bij elkaar genomen vond ik dit toch nog een leuk spel. Ik zeg niet dat dit tot de beste adventures van het jaar behoort, maar zeker ook niet tot de slechtste. Dit is zo'n adventure dat je als echte liefhebber niet mag laten liggen.

Som jeg nævnte i indledningen, er der faktisk ikke ret meget andet at fortælle, end at Fable er et halvkedeligt, traditionelt adventure med et uinteressant plot og grafik og lyd i en lunken kvalitet.

Fable är snyggt utfört, med trevliga animationer och mysiga berättarröster, men det känns ibland lite för lätt. Det enda riktigt negativa som kan sägas om spelet är att det inte alltid känns riktigt engagerande, annars hade kanske Fable fått ett bättre betyg.

Im Hinblick auf die teilweise müden Videoproduktionen der Konkurrenz lohnt sich ein Ausflug in die Phantasiewelt von Fable allemal.

Overall, I thought that Fable had a lot of potential that was not quite fulfilled. The dialogue and the ending were, for me, disappointing, as was the lack of any real depth to the story. On the other hand, I still enjoyed the adventuring components, but then, I do like this style of graphic adventure.

Experienced players may find it to be a bit too easy, but it's certainly entertaining enough to provide light relief between tougher games and offers a reasonable challenge to players new to the genre. I'd like to recommend it as suitable for all the family, but just remember that it does contain some rather immature and uninspired dialogue.

I've read a couple of European reviews of Fable, and I'm convinced these guys wouldn't know a good adventure game if it bit them in the arse. If you want a good graphic adventure, go out and buy Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail or wait for Warcraft Adventures. Fable just isn't much fun.

Altmodisch anmutendes Fantasy-Adventure mit abstrusem Puzzledesign. Jeder LucasArts-Oldie macht mehr Spaß.

All that said and done, should you buy Fable? If you're a fan of graphic point-and-click adventures looking for a mildly entertaining, two-day diversion and you see Fable on the remainder rack, sure. Enjoy the eye-candy and problem solving, and perhaps a few yuks at the inappropriate jokes, but don't expect much else.

Not! The game makes absolutely no attempt to tie up the epic loose ends of the story. It simply . . . stops! It's as if SirTech thought that flashing the words "The End" on the screen constitutes an ending. Sorry to inform you, SirTech - it doesn't! I'm used to disappointing endings in adventure games (that's a whole other article!), but this one takes the cake. It made me angry. Angry enough to think twice before ever spending my time playing a game from this team again.

Fable is a fairly frustrating game. It's got several good qualities, but it suffers from a common game problem I refer to as "Premature Release Syndrome."
