As I said, the game is intended for newbie RPG'ers, but it features incredible gameplay and a huge world that will draw even the most hardcore RPG player into the game. After all, this is one of the best Amiga games ever to be ported to the PC.

Faery Tale Adventure in my opinion was a very good game; not as good as the Phantasy Star series or a lot of other Genesis RPG's, but still capable of providing hours of challenge and exploration. You get to do some pretty cool things in this game like ride a turtle and a golden goose (which can fly). Once you get that golden goose this game gets mega fun, and traveling from place to place is a snap. This is a game that I still play even to this day just for the adventure and nostalgia. Though some mazes may be very long and hard to figure out its worth it to reach the other side or to finally get the item you need. Even after you beat it there are a quite a few small tasks which, while not mandatory, are worth checking out. If you like a good long and involved game, dust off your Genesis and take a trip to the land of Holm.

e you sitting comfortably? Wiped your noses? Rubbed away that nasty crufflenut? Then I'll begin. Once upon a time when the fields and rivers were uninhabited, and trolls could stomp on anyone they found, one Master at Arms decided to go and spoil it all. Somehow the talisman that had protected his village and his three sons (Julian, Phillips and Kevin) had got 'lost' and goblins, ghosts and skeletons were beginning to take over the town. It was going to be a real riot of a party – corpses and mediums, there was even talk of billy-goat pie – but the tightlipped old codger poured cold water on the whole thing and insisted on going for help.

As I recall, the Amiga version of this created quite a stir a few years back, but how standards have changed since then! If you're played Sword of Vermillion you'll know how good a Megadrive role-playing game can be, and Faery Tale Adventure isn't half as much fun to play. The scenery graphics aren't bad, although they're a bit too jolly to create any atmosphere of imminent danger, but the tiny character sprites mince around looking appalingly weedy. Graphical discrepancies wouldn't be so bad if there was enough gameplay to keep you distracted, but there isn't, and you're never given a firm idea about what you should do next. Talking to the characters is pretty pointless because they rarely have anything informative to say and the combat section is, frankly, feeble. If you want a really good RPG spend the £40 on Sword of Vermillion, which is a much better game all round.
