Fairy Bloom: Freesia

Moby ID: 67865

Description

Fairy Bloom Freesia is a 2.5D beat 'em up game set in small arenas with platforms. The game starts in the forest Lita where the fairy Freesia protects the environment and especially the Jomon Tree against hostile attackers. Next to hordes of creatures there are some people from a nearby kingdom very interested in an item held in the forest. The game progresses day by day and each day Freesia has to defeat creatures. Between days there are often small story sequences.

Freesia can move around, (double) jump, duck and move down platforms. Pressing a direction key or button twice makes her dash. There is a regular attack, a magical attack and a guard function to block. Guard has its own meter so it cannot be used indefinitely. Even though a single button or key is used to attack, different types of combos can be used in large chains by timing correctly, jumping and using the direction keys. By defeating creatures experience is gained to level up, improving the statistics health, strength, magic, physical defense and magical defense automatically and evenly. Defeated creatures leave behind mana, the main currency in the game. Mana can be used while fighting to activate magical attacks that are much more powerful.

After each day there is an intermission where the remaining mana can be spent in three categories: basic, special and optional skills. Basic skills unlock more regular attacks for Freesia, special skills hold a list of magical attacks and optional skills are passive abilities that can often be upgraded multiple times. Examples of the latter include more health and strength, better physical or magical defense, health generation and more. Special and optional skills need to be equipped with four slots for the first and two for the latter. After each fight, it is possible to alter the configuration.

New environments and enemies are unlocked gradually. There are three types of matches. In the regular ones Freesia simply needs to defeat all waves of enemies. Another one is similar, but contains energy vortexes that need to be protected. They each have their own health bars. When Freesia stays close there are often optional abilities that can be activated that way. The final type of match is a boss battle against much stronger enemies.
