The levels may be short, but so in the learning curve. Players will find themselves pulled through the linear game with anticipation. Sure, there are a few little setbacks, but those are easily overlooked. Graphically wonderful, with a great co-op mode, makes for a truly enjoyable gaming experience.

Amazing! No … that belongs to Spidey. Incredible! … Hold on, that’s the adjective connected to another Marvel character. When it comes to the Fantastic Four, there is only one word that adequately describes this quartet of mutated superheroes, and it is part of the group’s name.

With so many superheroes seeing the transition from comics to film to video games, it seems only right that Reed Richards and crew get the same treatment. The Fantastic Four is the latest comic franchise to traverse the silver screen, and Activision is releasing a game based on the upcoming movie. The game features some great gameplay with touches of both the Spider-Man 2 game and X-Men Legends, complete with fully destructible environments and raging multiplayer action. While the game doesn’t quite feel as developed as either of the previously mentioned titles, it borrows some of the best elements from both to create a solid superhero experience.

The bottom line is while Fantastic Four the game, much like the movie, poses somewhat of a shallow storyline, the negative aspects of the game are heavily overshadowed by stronger, more positive features like sharp visuals, a familiar and enhanced game play engine, user friendly controls, and solid multiplayer support. More importantly the game is just addictively fun and doesn't grow old even after you complete it. I recommend this title to any serious Marvel fans out there as well as to anyone who appreciated similar games of this genre such as Xmen: Legends. FF4 easily earns a fantastic 4 GiN gems.

Another summer movie season is upon us and that means more movie-based games. This summer has been a bit disappointing in terms of movies and the licensed games have been even worse. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Madagascar have been awful and Batman Begins was also underwhelming. The Fantastic Four film was something I planned on avoiding like a plague, so I was surprised that the game turned out to be a beat ‘em up done right.

Fantastic 4 is a fun and challenging video game, loosely based on the upcoming movie with a very entertaining and totally original script that expands upon the origins story of the film. The graphics may be hit and miss, but they are solid where it counts; in the gameplay, and the sound effects again, are merely average, but the two-player co-op mode is awesomely fun for gamers that are fans of the famed comic book series or action fans in general.

This review was easily the toughest one I have ever had to do for various reasons. When I bought this game, I had absolutely no faith in the fact that I might actually enjoy the game. I had resigned myself to finally playing and then reviewing an actual “bad” game. Something I have avoided in my years plus here at 2404.org. What I was faced with, was easily one the most fun arcade-type experiences I have ever had on the PC.

Unlike many movie tie-in games that are rushed out just to ride the wave of publicity, this is good enough to stand on its own — despite a huge film being out to help it sell. Given the poor history of comic hero games, I might have hesitated getting this without the movie to boost my interest, but I would have missed out. Nice game, good characters and exciting action all wrapped up to propel the Foursome back into the Marvel limelight that they dominated for years. It is, most definitely, Clobberin’ time!

A long list of unlockable secrets add some decent replay potential, but it's debatable whether you'll really want to keep at it for that long. As a movie license, the game is certainly not the disaster it could have been. But as a re-imagining of Stan Lee's first classic superteam, it could have been so much more.

The game is good, it’s good enough to maybeadd to your movie based game collection, but it doesn’t feel to havemuch of a replay value with it. As nothing really bothered nor annoyedme in the game to give it a bad rating, nothing really stood out so thegame doesn’t deserve an outstand rating. Maybe borrow the game fromsomeone you know who has it and try it out.

Fantastic 4 is a game that, in terms of movie tie in, is above average but overall a moderate title. It does feature beat em’ up mechanics and quite a bit of depth but can get repetitive and doesn't really do anything unique and new to put it above the pack meaning the reliance on the movie license is just a bit too much. Fun, but only in small doses.

Fantastic 4 is a good game and one which fans of the movie and beat 'em ups should pick up. The lower $69.95 retail price is a bit of a bonus too and the game will certainly have you playing through more then once if only to unlock the extra content. In all Fantastic Four is a solid movie tie-in.

Is F4 the game to topple Spider-Man 2 or the X-Men Legends? Hardly. It does share much in common with Legends however and fans of one should definitely check out the other. What F4 does deliver is a fun and clever beat ‘em up in the style of Fighting Force which will satisfy you while it lasts and may keep you busy on a rainy day when you have a friend over. There are wonderful extras to be unlocked and fans of the comics will definitely appreciate this title more than non-fans. The Stan Lee interviews are truly worth it (and fans of Alba do get a nice interview with her as well!). Unlike many superhero games though, this one does enough things right that I look forward to a sequel; maybe one where I can choose to be one of the Fantastic 4 at a time and roam around the city fighting crime? At the very least give this one a rental, its worth it just to try out the various powers.

The shudder one feels from the atrocity that is the overly mistreated licensed video game. Why must video games based on movies suck so much? And why does everyone keep playing them? The obvious answer starts at that everyone loves a good movie. Everyone wants to be the action hero or heroine they see on the big screen.

Overall, Fantastic Four feels like just another half-baked attempt at making a game based on a movie. The story fails to capture the spirit of the film or the comics. The game does not allow players to explore the full potential of each character and offer enough diversity in the implementation of their super powers. Minor technical glitches become frustrating as you proceed through the levels. It is hard to recommend Fantastic Four to anyone except for those who especially enjoy the comic books or the movie. Given all its problems, the relatively short game is much better suited for a rental than a purchase. There are countless other games out there that will make a better addition to your game collection than Fantastic Four.

Fantastic 4 is a passable action game with some interesting ideas. The action feels solid and the co-op mode offers an intersting twist. The team work aspect, even in single player, delivers something you won't find in most action brawlers. There's also plenty of variety in terms of enemy design and special moves, but it sometimes feels cosmetic. Still, you can't help but feel there's something missing in Fantastic 4. All the characters and powers are here, as are the villains from the movie and comic. Yet much of the game just doesn't make you feel (cough, cough) fantastic. You can't run around stretching from room to room as Mr. Fantastic, for example, and while the Human Torch can hover, he never really takes flight.

To quote the Armchair Empire’s own Kurt Kalata, Fantastic 4 is “a competent, if somewhat unremarkable, beat ‘em up.” He was writing about the Xbox version, but the same can be said of the PC version, which will appeal to fans of the film and those not old enough to have experienced the classic beat ‘em ups like Captain Commando, Final Fight, and Streets of Rage.

Back in the days of the original PlayStation, a Fantastic Four game was released; it went on to become one of the most despised games of the PSOne era, winning many awards as “worst game of the year,” “worst game of the decade,” and “worst PlayStation game of all time.” If you think I’m exaggerating, go out and find it and try it for yourself. I mean it. I can wait. I’ve got all day here. I’ll be around when you get back. I’ll just pop in Guild Wars on my PC, get lost in an online world and wait for you to come crawling back, begging forgiveness, shame-faced and pleading never to have to touch that game again … ever! Oh, you’re back already? See? I told you so.

Fantastic 4 is drastically inferior to many other games in the genre, every release in the Devil May Cry series is much better in just about every way from graphics and atmosphere to controls and fighting system, fans of the film or comic series may want to rent the game just to see what happens but I feel that anyone who buys this will be taking it back to the shop shortly afterwards with the intention of trading it in for a better game.

You may as well just begin to face the reality; video games and the TV/movie industry are now pretty much attached at the hip. You can bet that for the rest of eternity that anytime you have anything that resembles a blockbuster movie coming out that a video game will come out along with it, and it appears the trend will contiunue that it will come out before the actual movie does! Spider-man 3 the video game is already being talked about and the movie isn't due out until 2007!! So far this year the big movie to video game ports have included Star Wars Episode 3, Batman Begins, and this game; Fantastic Four.

Like most people, we've long wished we had our very own superpower. It wouldn't even have to be a very good one, like flight or invisibility or laser eyes or any of that nonsense. We'd settle for the ability to tie our shoelaces just by thinking about it, for example, or stop cups of tea from going cold, or make the digibox receive an uninterrupted signal for more than seven minutes at a time.

Though Fantastic 4 does offer all the elements of a good beat-'em-up game on paper, the execution of those features leaves something to be desired. The result is instead a short, bland-looking game that doesn't give many compelling reasons for a purchase. If you're really into the movie or the comic and can look past drab environments and controls that aren't as crisp as they should be, then Fantastic 4 might be worth a rent, but not much more.

Fantastic 4 is a beat-'em-up based on a movie of the same name, which is in turn based on a comic book series created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, but it's not destined for the legendary status of its namesake. The game takes some cues from X-Men Legends in that you can quickly switch between up to four different heroes and upgrade their abilities as you battle your way through Dr. Doom's legions of robots and other monstrous foes and minibosses. Unfortunately, the game suffers from imprecise controls, a lackluster presentation, a few bugs, and other issues that make it difficult to recommend.

There's an immediate temptation to chalk up Fantastic Four as just another Hollywood-endorsed byproduct, ignoring its marked existence and write it off as a 'Fantastic Four out of Ten!' It's not that easy, though. In the old days, blockbuster films were accompanied by expectedly atrocious video games, whereas now gamers are left with a deluge of average licensed releases&a debatably worse fate.

For every other type of gamer, however, Fantastic Four is a very mediocre game, offering nothing you can’t find in some other adventure game. Finding a game much more enjoyable is not hard.

Fantastic 4 will appeal to its fans, but besides the comic die-hard's it's going to be hard to find value in this beat em' up adventure. Rent if you're curious, if not I'd wait until it hits the bargain bin before you snatch this one up.

Lizenzalarm!

Move licensed games are made to sell to people who don't really care for videogame reviews, so this review probably won't make a whole lot of difference to the game's sales. If you are reading this and were seriously thinking about picking the game up, I'd strongly warn you against it. If you must buy a superhero videogame based on one of this summer's movies, you'd be much better off taking a look at EA's Batman Begins - a game that has the production values you'd expect from such a license. Fantastic 4 isn't utterly awful, it just isn't anywhere near to being worthy of its name.

Let’s cut right to the chase – Fantastic Four is not a good game. The Fantastic Four of comic book legend? Now those guys (and gal) are alright. The FF have always been one of the more appealing superhero teams to me (all props to The Avengers of course, both east and west coast). That said, this game does them no justice. I won’t comment on the movie as I’m not a film critic, but as a gaming journalist, I’ll say FF the game pretty much reeks from the get-go.

Dear God, what have I done wrong in this world? After the mediocre Batman Begins videogame, my boss, the allmighty tyrant that goes by the name Speed, decided to send me Fantastic 4, the game. I know I'm not thy most loyal or humble servant, but I don't think even I deserved this kind of torture. So, please excuse for what I'm about to say and please grant me access to heaven in, let's say, 60 years. Here goes: may you burn in hell, Speed, for doing this to me!

Overall, Fantastic 4 continues the proud tradition of mediocrity set by the majority of both movie-based and superhero games. It is sad that such great superheroes as the Fantastic 4 should catch the double whammy of average movie and game. It is also unfortunate that the casual gamer, who is making many of his buying decisions based solely on his recognition of a license, is going to get stuck with this gobbler.

That’s a lot more than can be said for the rest of the game. Even though kicking enemy butt can be satisfying and there are a lot of big, menacing monsters to face, Fantastic Four is merchandising at its finest, a hollow game that's beatable in eight hours and isn't replayable at all. We don’t expect you to enjoy it. We don’t expect you to buy it, either.

If you set your expectations low enough, you can enjoy just about anything. This certainly goes for Activision's new merchanding device disguised as an actual game, Fantastic Four. If you expect a bad action game with small, linear environments, zero A.I. and even less replay value, you deseve a pat on the back for hitting the nail on its orange, rocky head.

Fantastic Four is far from being Fantastic but if you are a fan of the comics, it is a nice feature that you get to fight against enemies like Annihilus and seeing other comic book characters making cameo appearances. Fans looking to play through the movie version may be left scratching their heads wondering what is going on and may find the power button getting pressed a little quick. The coop is a nice, but not perfect, feature that not many games have lately, but unfortunately that may not be enough to save this game from its terrible graphics and seriously repetitive gameplay.

It’s hard to imagine on how many levels this game fails to be good. Memo to the developers: Think of any single player or cooperative game and copy all their good ideas. It happens all the time; heck even use the engine from a successful game and your game is instantly decent at worst. Fantastic 4 is a failure as a game and a reinforcement that games based on movies aren’t any good and should be avoided at all costs. There was plenty of opportunity to make a good game, but unfortunately they took the easy route to make a quick buck instead. Fantastic 4 is a fantastic flop, stay away from it if you value your time and money.
